Something there is …

… that doesn’t love a wall

(Wrote Robert Frost, in the poem Mending Wall 🙂 )
For an audio of the poem, recited by Moi, to help a student preparing for some competition, ages ago, here it is :D!

[audio http://dl.dropbox.com/u/52714712/mending%20wall.mp3]

And something there is, nudging me, within, and tingling at the fingertips, and tip of my tongue, to give expression, to… ?

What?

I am not sure, but there is this feeling that I should be writing, sharing words, which just don’t seem to do more than hang around, just out of reach. So I decided to go ahead and give the fingertips their time at the keyboard, since I find that when words come, I do not have either writing materials, or a keyboard in sight, or at hand. So it has to be this, a forced attempt, which, by the look of it till now, is just that, a very very forced attempt.

Sigh.

Still, I have one discovery for the day. And I just posted that on FB too! I can have an audio player/link in a blog, and this isn’t for a self hosted premium blog, but just another free worpress dot com blog. I’m going to go crazy with my add ons now, especially of the verse I have recorded, mostly for the pleasure of listening to my own voice. Talk of narcissism  😆 !!! And talk of how strongly I am going to show its apparent evidence here :D! God save you all readers!

Right ho! Done for now. Check that audio, for the sound of a silly woman :D! And, for those who would like to add this, it’s really simple.

1. upload an audio file on any webstorage site, like Dropbox or soundcloud

2. Copy the url

3. The short code is “[” “audio” “url” “]” that’s it! Remember to use it without the ” “, and leave a space between audio and url. The url of course has to be an audio, preferably an mp3. I used the dropbox link. Make sure that the link is stored in the public folder 🙂

4. The above, point no. 3 does not work with the soundcloud link. There, you simply have to click “share” above the audio link on the track in soundcloud, then click upon the url, and paste it here (for free wordpress blog ie). The upgraded, self hosted blogs can of course have their own plugin players 🙂

Happy day to all 🙂 🙂

A Class Apart :)

Fifty two faces, bright, clean
Groomed hair, defying the
Dusty wind that
Pushes thru’ windows…
Pretty, demure girls (a total pretence :P)
Boys- Steadfast in attitude (a total sham :P)

But, forgiving of their
Nerdy, strait-jacket
Bonkered teachers
All the way!

A burgeoning thirteen (on average)
But going on Twenty 😀
In tiny tantalizing peeks
Practising the come-hither
Whatevers! 😀

Bold, brassy declarations
Experimenting always
Pushing the limits-
Their own folks’
And mine! And, much as I do
Shudder, chew imaginary nails
Worry and rage…
I must confess, that
In their sneaky
Absolutely naughty way,

They have me.
Just that!

Laconic

In nods, in tiny smiles
In glances on off chances
And accidental brushes
With the finger tips
Or a swish of clothes
While moving by.

In sudden stealth
Of secretive looks
In gleams of warmth
Like embers coated in ash
That, with breaths of love
Glow, in anticipation.

Your whispered words
Of adoration. Are they
Just superfluous?

Forgotten?

In daily consciousness
Is oblivion-
Memories to negate.
For, what lies in sight
And impinges upon the ear
Oft, are we blind and deaf to.

In forgotten realms
Abutting that consciousness-
Is that where you place me?
Hovering on the fringe
Of your knowing?

Of course, not consciously.
But in off hand negligence
Living the taken-for-granted
Cliché.

I desist, though. And will
Resist.
Willing myself
To hammer against that wall
(Clear as glass and just as hard)
Of accidental denial.

Waiting for the pane
To shatter.
So that I can
Yet again, redeem you.13 December, 2011

The Pig (by Roald Dahl)

Two reasons for sharing this delightful poem.
One, it is for you Neeti: remember we were talking of Roald Dahl’s short stories, and I mentioned this poem, much to shared laughter, at the name. Idiosyncratic, but utterly believable 😀 :D!

Two, am trying out the embedded audio player. I found out about this when I visited Trinath’s blog, where he has included his own reading of his poetry. As I had a recording of this poem, for a young, talented performer at school, Priyanka Nair, I decided to try this out 🙂
Edited to add, on 25 August, 2012. Discovered the audio embedding process within WordPress, and so am using that here 🙂

Here’s the poem:
The Pig, by Roald Dahl
In England once there lived a big
And wonderfully clever pig.
To everybody it was plain
That Piggy had a massive brain.
He worked out sums inside his head,
There was no book he hadn’t read.
He knew what made an airplane fly,
He knew how engines worked and why.
He knew all this, but in the end
One question drove him round the bend:
He simply couldn’t puzzle out
What LIFE was really all about.
What was the reason for his birth?
Why was he placed upon this earth?
His giant brain went round and round.
Alas, no answer could be found.
Till suddenly one wondrous night.
All in a flash he saw the light.
He jumped up like a ballet dancer
And yelled, “By gum, I’ve got the answer!”
“They want my bacon slice by slice
“To sell at a tremendous price!
“They want my tender juicy chops
“To put in all the butcher’s shops!
“They want my pork to make a roast
“And that’s the part’ll cost the most!
“They want my sausages in strings!
“They even want my chitterlings!
“The butcher’s shop! The carving knife!
“That is the reason for my life!”
Such thoughts as these are not designed
To give a pig great peace of mind.
Next morning, in comes Farmer Bland,
A pail of pigswill in his hand,
And piggy with a mighty roar,
Bashes the farmer to the floor…
Now comes the rather grizzly bit
So let’s not make too much of it,
Except that you must understand
That Piggy did eat Farmer Bland,
He ate him up from head to toe,
Chewing the pieces nice and slow.
It took an hour to reach the feet,
Because there was so much to eat,
And when he finished, Pig, of course,
Felt absolutely no remorse.
Slowly he scratched his brainy head
And with a little smile he said,
“I had a fairly powerful hunch
“That he might have me for his lunch.
“And so, because I feared the worst,
“I thought I’d better eat him first.”

Note: For those who would like to try this out (for blogspot blogs, does not work on WP), let me tell you what I learnt from Trinath, via this poem of his, that I turned into a sort of chat window. 😀 He very patiently sorted it out for me: Take a look at this poem of his (called “Everything in place”, yes it did fall in place, Trinath!):
