A Mother is born… :)

This is a special post. One that is long delayed too, but today, I am glad I did delay it. For it found a perfect timing. 🙂

IHM, a long while ago, had tagged me on the first born detailing post.. 🙂 I had been wanting to get to it for, like, ages.. but only today did the urge seize me and force me to the computer, to make me manage time, so that something special is there, to share, this day. Why this day, you ask? You shall find out somewhere down the read, hopefully 🙂 🙂

They say a mother is born with the first child she has, and so it is both a learning experience and a re discovery of another you, when you have a baby… and to be gender safe, let me say the same goes for the father too.. 🙂

1. WAS YOUR FIRST PREGNANCY PLANNED?

Nopes… 🙂 🙂 It was rather a surprise 🙂

2. WERE YOU MARRIED AT THE TIME?

:D.. YES!

3. WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS?

Surprise, and then a wonderful anticipation:)

4. WAS ABORTION AN OPTION FOR YOU?

No. NOT.

5. HOW OLD WERE YOU?

Just over twenty 🙂

6. HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT?

The usual delay :D! Then the knowing… 🙂 And finally a lab test. 🙂

7. WHO DID YOU TELL FIRST?

My husband

8. DUE DATE?

April, and we were hoping for a Vishu Kaineettam 🙂 (That is a sort of gift you get at Vishu, usually in the form of coins, money, given with blessings to start the new year :))

9. DID YOU HAVE MORNING SICKNESS?

Plenty… till the end… till he was born 🙂

10. WHAT DID YOU CRAVE?

Surprisingly… nothing :)!

11. WHO/WHAT IRRITATED YOU THE MOST?

Me and myself, I think, more than anything else 🙂

12. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CHILD’S SEX?

A boy 🙂

13. DID YOU WISH YOU HAD THE OPPOSITE SEX OF WHAT YOU WERE GETTING?

🙂 I would not be entirely honest if I said I did not 🙂

14. HOW MANY POUNDS DID YOU GAIN THROUGHOUT THE PREGNANCY?

I didn’t, I lost weight 🙂

15. DID YOU HAVE A BABY SHOWER?

No.

16. WAS IT A SURPRISE OR DID YOU KNOW?

Not applicable… 🙂

17. DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS DURING YOUR PREGNANCY?

Apart from not gaining weight, and not being able to keep much food down, nothing 🙂

18. WHERE DID YOU GIVE BIRTH?

Was with my parents, in Bangalore 🙂

19. HOW MANY HOURS WERE YOU IN LABOR?

About 24 hours… mild at first but from about night, till the next noon, I was in labour!

20. WHO DROVE YOU TO THE HOSPITAL/BIRTH CENTER?

My parents.

21. WHO WATCHED YOU GIVE BIRTH?

My gynaec. and her team, and a close family friend who is a child specialist at the same place.

22. WAS IT NATURAL OR C-SECTION?

Natural, but outlet forceps.

23. DID YOU TAKE MEDICINE TO EASE THE PAIN?

I am not sure that it was in, in those days. I did not even know about it 🙂

24. HOW MUCH DID YOUR CHILD WEIGH?

He was a big ‘un! 3.8 Kg. 🙂

25. WHEN WAS YOUR CHILD ACTUALLY BORN ?

1.40 in the afternoon.

26. WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN THE DOCTOR THE SEX OF THE BABY?

I kind of knew… 🙂 So it was not much of a surprise. But there was a whole lot of relief too, because it was over, and the whole process was natural, and I did not have to take a C section.

27. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST REACTION ON SEEING THE BABY?

Can’t explain, really. It was a moment I had always known about. A deja vu, if you would. In fact years ago, much before I got married, or even had the inkling about it, I had written about him, here 🙂 Don’t ask me how, but that is how he turned out too, as a young one, and still is one 🙂

28. DID YOU CRY?

Yes.. 🙂

29. WHAT DID YOU NAME HIM/HER?

Kunju 🙂

30. HOW OLD IS YOUR FIRST BORN TODAY?

It’s his birthday today… and that is why I am writing in this post.. to make it all the more special 🙂 So I cant say the exact age because, you see, it’s bad luck. Lol. :D! But he’s in his mid twenties..:)And finally after an age, more than 6 years we are spending it together 🙂

🙂 Happy Birthday, all over again, Kunju 🙂

Now I must share this too… and that is a reference to the second born 🙂 He is definitely going to find this post, and he is going to say, see I told you na, I’m second best (especially when he was supposed to be a girl, according to my prediction, and he turned out a boy :D! Lol!), so you aren’t writing anything about me. For those who are second born and know how it is, I must tell you, I have this too, for him, here.. 🙂 If you have the time 🙂

Dreamer, Visionary? :) :)

Read about this first, here, on IHM’s blog, about being an introvert or extrovert. Was rather enchanted by the thought of it all 🙂 And now I know why… Lol. Being a dreamer, visionary, as the test taken then reveals.

So here it is, the INFP me. The Dreamer, says the tag 🙂 I’m rather inclined to agree with most of the things listed here, along with the brief on the persona 🙂

INFP – The “Dreamer” Jungian Personality Types (Free Test)

INFPs are introspective, private, creative and highly idealistic individuals that have a constant desire to be on a meaningful path. They are driven by their values and seek peace. Empathetic and compassionate, they want to help others and humanity as a whole. INFPs are imaginative, artistic and often have a talent for language and writing. They can also be described as easygoing, selfless, guarded, adaptable, patient and loyal.

About the INFP
Expert Quotes

“INFPs are highly intuitive about people. They rely heavily on their intuitions to guide them, and use their discoveries to constantly search for value in life. They are on a continuous mission to find the truth and meaning underlying things. Every encounter and every piece of knowledge gained gets sifted through the INFP’s value system, and is evaluated to see if it has any potential to help the INFP define or refine their own path in life.”

Portrait of an INFP (The Personality Page)

“creative, smart, idealist, loner, attracted to sad things, disorganized, avoidant, can be overwhelmed by unpleasant feelings…”

INFP Jung Type Descriptions (similarminds.com)

“An INFP’s feelings form the foundations of the individual. They are sacred and binding, in the sense that their emergence requires no further justification. An INFP’s feelings are often guarded, kept safe from attack and ridicule. Only a few, close confidants are permitted entrance into this domain.”

INFP Profile (INFP Mailing List)

Image“Highly creative, artistic and spiritual, they can produce wonderful works of art, music and literature. INFPs are natural artists. They will find great satisfaction if they encourage and develop their artistic abilities. That doesn’t mean that an INFP has to be a famous writer or painter in order to be content. Simply the act of “creating” will be a fulfilling source of renewal and refreshment to the INFP. An INFP should allow himself or herself some artistic outlet, because it will add enrichment and positive energy to their life.”

INFP Personal Growth (The Personality Page)

“Their job must be fun, although not racous, and it must be meaningful to them. They need a strong purpose in their work. They want to be recognized and valued, without undue attention given to them. They may become embarrassed when make the center of attention. As a result, they may undersell their strengths in order to avoid being singled out and made to feel conspicuous. They would rather have their worth be noticed gradually over time.”
INFP – The Dreamer (Lifexplore)

It was a revelation 🙂 And I shall let it rest at that. With practically everyone having done it so far, I guess I wanted to catch up too… so I pulled out the draft and decided to air it:)

Randomly, Me!

Tagged by Surbhi , IHM and Deeps … [I hope I have not left out anyone else this time:) If I have just ping me, in the comments box and I shall certainly link you up :)], to *ahem* share more of myself, in 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about myself 🙂 25?? I guess I have to learn more of myself then. This should be a revelation to moi and meself too. Yes, they are one and the same, most times, but sometimes, I wonder, like I did, at the end of Clinical Psychology classes, in college :D! I was convinced there was more to me… and now I shall finally find out!

So here goes 🙂

1. I was born with my lower middle incisors [the broad flat teeth in the middle :)], peeking out of my gums. Gave a fright to my mother, when she discovered it the morning after, and it was a rather rare occasion for everyone at the hospital too.

2. Now that might make you think that I had a strong a sturdy set of pearly whites 🙂 Yup..! So strong were they, that my pre-molars refused to leave the gums when their time was up, and so every Saturday we made an appointment with the Dentist at AFCH, close to where we lived, to have one pre-m. extracted till all of of them were done. How many weeks you ask? I do not want to think about it, if you will excuse me, for now :D! How many pre-m.’s do we have anyway? Calling the med. students to please enlighten us 🙂

3. More toothy facts. My Dentist happened to describe my dental features very interestingly. He said I had my father’s jaws and mom’s teeth :P! Just his way of explaining why I had such gaps between my teeth, my front incisors [the same, only the upper ones as well!]. Wore braces, the removable ones.. closed the gap, then stopped a few years later, and well.. what do you expect, Dad’s jaws, mom’s teeth, went back to their original places 🙂 🙂 LOL.

4. Enough of teeth. The nose now. I have a Chinese pug nose. So said another paediatrician. No further comments on that please. It’s a sore point with me. Missed having that perfect profile because of it. *Sigh!! and *giggle giggle..:P

5. Narcissist aren’t I? So let us leave my gorgeous self, outer one, and delve a bit, into the recesses of the consciousness. I’ve already shared this, but it’s about my earliest memory. Dad carrying me, and me crying. Mom tells me, that they almost lost me to jaundice, before I turned two, and she sometimes still chokes up when she speaks of it 🙂 Precious I know life is!

6. Am a hoarder of stuff. Stuff. From scraps of paper that I jotted words on, to birthday cards, bookmarks, dog eared leaflets of something I like, newspaper cuttings, quotations and extracts from books I own, lol, to clothes of an age ago, just some, but then there it is 🙂 To marklists of the first class I taught, and all those badges I wore at different school functions, handouts from workshops. I mean how can you throw away something that might, someday come in handy? I am so scared to do it.

7. Point related to no. 6. I can never find what I am looking for in that treasure chest mentioned in 6. above!

8. I do find it eventually, when I am looking for something else!!!

9. And I still haven’t learnt the lesson from it. That I need to start hunting for something else to find the something!!! I had better stop blowing my own trumpet so much, hadn’t I?

10. I think I am paranoid. Sometimes. 🙂 But then why would anyone want to harm me? I immediately think that too. And then the world is fine!

11. I do not take calls from numbers I cannot place 🙂 And so, once when I was on leave, the Principal called endlessly to find out some information on an entry form that had to be sent that day, and I did not call back 🙂 Luckily for me, he understood. *Whew* Close call. But I did tell him, that was the reason; however, I saved his number for future use 🙂

12. I love animals. Even snakes. Not really in the sense of going ga ga over them, but that I hate to see them killed just because they are snakes. Most people do that here, the moment a snake is spotted, the first thing that is done, is to flush it out of where ever it has chosen to hide and then beat it to death. I mean, if one were to just let them be, they would simple leave, and not harm us, right? [Same point as IHM, has expressed too!]

13. Dogs and cats are my life too 🙂

14. I make friends slowly.

15. I’m rather reserved, by nature, I am told:) Sometimes, most times, yes, I would guess 🙂

16. I’m not too good at forgiving either myself or anyone else 🙂 I’d rather not meet/ talk to that person, at all, rather than be hypocritical and pretend all is well. Not a good thing at all, but I’m working on more positivity within and without 🙂 🙂

17. Hypocrites are very very off putting. I give them a wide berth.

18. I believe that dreams come true.

19. I believe that miracles are possible. The line from Alchemist, about wanting something badly enough… I subscribe to that view. Experience has taught me that 🙂 🙂

20. I was certain my second born was a girl, and refused to believe the Doctor when he told me otherwise. I sometimes do still wonder about it 🙂 He was a very polite person, else he would have hooted with laughter the way I went on and on… But I have no doubt he’s mine, the second born: too much of me in him 😀 :D!

21. I am a positive person, and like to look at the brighter side of things, no matter how desperate things seem to be!

22. I write down pluses and minuses, sometimes, when I have to make a difficult decision. I tell the kids to try it as well. Ever since I heard of PMI, Plus, Minus Interesting… it is something, that I do believe works, and works well. Do try it, but finally let your gut instinct also work with it 🙂

23. I trust my instincts. On most things.

24. I listen. I like listening, and rarely even feel bored at speeches.

25. Am an avid note taker at interesting meetings, speeches, seminars, whatever 🙂 Even classroom speeches, and debates so that I can place the person in context, so that I can take something from it, so that, like now, I can go on and on and on and on… 😀

Am I done? Wow! I actually found 25 random things about myself! *pats herself on the back!*

Moral of the write: There is always more to you, than you know 🙂 Know. And this too. That you are precious.

Take care, good folks. And if you have actually read till here, I must acknowledge your patience 🙂 🙂 Thanks IHM, Deeps and Surbhi. It has been an unexpected pleasure finding out some things along this post 🙂

Happy Woman’s Day to all the men and women who believe that Women are people too!

A Quirky Tag!

Alright, am dealing with beating Procrastination and so I come to another pending Tag. This time, it is from Aareet Krsna, a young blogger with a worldly wise wisdom and an awesome way with words 🙂 His tag is to share seven things unusual about me 🙂 It goes back to a couple of months ago actually!

  • A girl who grew up a tomboy. The reason why it is so unusual is that it has stayed with me throughout, lol, and even today I am more tomboy that a lot of girls in my class! I had to insist that the girls of Std. VIII play cricket, as there was a lesson with a bit of reference to the game. Rather than giving theory lesson in class, the girls who knew and the boys who played helped them. That is when I realized a whole lot of things about myself. Other teachers, including the PE teachers think I am a weirdo. Perhaps. :D!!!

  • My collectors’ items. Every scrap of paper on which I might have remotely pretended to be writer, an adviser, an essayist has been collected and stored. For whom or what, thou shalt not ask. Suffice to say, I am, of course a quirky soul. 🙂 I still have the cards I got for my birthday, from school, to the latest that my kids gave me… 3 each, from each of the two offspring!!! I am rich!

  • I cannot forgive myself easily. And that said, that is that!

  • I have an irrational sense of logic that works perfectly fine for me, but gives the impression of my being disorganized. Ever heard that a mess is order, re-ordered in a certain way? Lol!

  • How I came to be named. Dad wanted to go the whole way and name me Ushus, for the Goddess of Dawn… help!! Luckily, Mom did help, and put her foot down. Usha it became. But…. my generation has so many Ushas esp. where I live, in my own family.. a daughter, a daughter in law, neice, grand neice, house help, her neice… Lol. The list is endless. And when we attend a marriage function, it gets worse. Ah, I met Usha, if even an Usha were to say that, you’d have to qualify with Leelachechi’s Usha, or Ramu’s Usha, or Cheriya Usha [cheriya means small… :D]… It is an over dose of the name I tell you!!!
  • My name also got me at the bottom of the attendance register list. Most times it was convenient. :D! Being a Back Bencher [hail the tribe!!!] it helped, enormously!!!

  • My favourite tagline with the kids at school, to confuse them which has to be the all time height of quirkiness.. Lol. I ask them “Am I the problem?” And they are instantly lost. The braver ones smile. Most look shocked. The really Brave and Courageous Adventurers sometimes say Yes. I love that part… hehehe!

Now to tag you guys. The best part! This time however, I shall give you all a leeway 🙂

All those who read this are TAGGED 🙂, even if you don’t leave a comment. However, I would love it if you could just leave a link in the comments box when you do 🙂 Thanks!

[Saved myself a lot of energy hyperlinking :D!!! It has to be one of the most enjoyable but painstaking things to do… 🙂 :)] But I might just drop in and ask … :), if tagees are not forthcoming, LOL!

Of Words and Images – Another Tag!

This has been sitting in the Drafts Section for a few days now! Till time, inclination and the words come to me, for another post, I thought I would share another tag, that had come by a long long while ago. That leaves just one more, from Aareet… 🙂

Disclaimer:
All those who will finally take the tag, do please be guided by Deeps instructions. I have bent them too too much!!!

Doing Deeps’ Tag!

The rule goes thus-I’m supposed to be pasting an image for every answer of mine, from the first page of google image search, with minimal explanation.

As I understand it, I need to answer the points, and add an image from Google search’s first page of pictures, and give a minimal reply in explanation. Now the rest of it is easy, but restricting words is tough. Let’s see how far my control over words actually goes 🙂

  • A place you’d like to travel to:

Image

Venice. A grand tour of it in Gondola is what I shall do. And have a handsome latin hero playing the mandolin, and warbling some fancy Latin/Italian/gibberish song, to add effect. Lol!

  • Your Favorite place:
Image

Nothing more needed here. Except to add this too. Home, ultimately is where the heart is. And that finally is more home to me than the physical space I occupy! I carry my Home with me 🙂

  • Your favorite food/drink:
Image

Lassi. Sweet Lassi. Wins hands down. Anytime. Anywhere. Any season.

  • Your favorite pets

Image

Self-explanatory. The prompt came in singular. I made it plural:D! Pets. Love cats and dogs. To death. 🙂 🙂
  • Your favorite color combination
Image

Pink and Grey. Don’t ask me why. It is one of the most subtlest and at the same time, innocent combinations for me… 🙂 🙂

  • Your all time favorite songs:
You decorated my life by Kenny Rogers. Could only get a Karaoke version. Do listen, and tell me, please 🙂
Image

Kenny Rogers’ voice is magic. His lyrics out of this world. His music and the atmosphere it creates electric. Love him, and his songs!

Image

Anne Murray is the Songbird, for me!! The richness of her voice, the grainy huskiness, and the lyrics of almost all her songs have enchanted me, for all time 🙂

I grew up with this song, among a whole host of others. The lyrics are specially meaningful to a die hard romantic like me 🙂 🙂

  • The town in which you live in:
Image
Thrisshivaperoor. The land of the Poorams. There, I told myself I would not. But sharing the name of my land is more than I could resist 🙂
    • Your first job:
    Image
At the age of about 15, in Class X, at a leadership camp that some of us attended, we were asked to say what we see ourselves doing at the age of 30. I had no hesitation. I wrote Teacher. 🙂 And then the Resource Person told us that apparently what we see/ wish for dearly, at that age more often than not does become reality. Strange but true. There it is, at around age 30, I just finished going back to college after a break of 10 years, a couple of kids, graduated with a B. Ed, and finally became a Teacher. Lol. Not anymore though. I have picked up enough of the profession to know that I shall always be a Learner. And that that is the only way to Teach 🙂 :)!!

    • Your Dream Job:
    Image
Writing. An anthology perhaps. Editing in a Publishing Company perhaps. But then I am in a dream job, teaching. So do I want to change? Confused :)!

      • Bad Habit you have:
      Image

Isn’t there a beautiful couplet in Hindi that goes like this?
      Kal Kare so Aaaj
      Aaj Kare so ab
      ??
That isn’t me 😦 And that is the drattest and darnest bad habit I carry around, with no hope of redemption! Look at how late I did this tag :D!!!
      • The one thing you’ll like to do before you die:
        Image
Now this is a GRAND DREAM! Publish a book. Will I? Won’t I? More like I won’t.. 🙂 but it is such a thought, that is going to make me go on…. :D!!!

        • The first thing you’ll buy if you get $1,000,00o
        Image

Buy a cottage by the sea, where there is no one else and nothing else but the long stretch of golden beach and swaying palm, and blue blue shallow and pleasantly calm sea. Of course the house will come with the latest modern amenities, and cook to boot… 🙂 I’m going to be really busy there. Lazing :D!!!

        ****

Now, Onward Ho! with the Tag:) This is the best part! A word to all those listed below:

Please do not go by what I have written. I have bent, and rather murdered the intent of the tag, lol, that should be done Like This. Do read up Deeps for the Right Way. I have cheated. *giggle*!!

So I tag you, dear folks:

Indyeah [you knew this was coming too, didn’t you??]:)

        Shail

IHM (Deeps has already told you, I know :)]

        Imp’s Mom

        Mampi

        Balvinder Singh

        J P Joshi

        Praveen

        Sashu

        Soumya

        Rukhiya

        Mithe

        Vrinda

And all those who pass by here, and would like to share too 🙂 🙂
