Annie E. Casey Foundation's policy magazine. The Spring 2004 issue explores the workforce crisis plaguing children and family services. AECF President Doug Nelson highlights the need for renewed focus on frontline workers serving needy kids and families, and we look up-close at this challenge in Greenville, South Carolina. Other articles document Michigan’s “just-in-time” hiring process and Cincinnati's pay-for-performance contract with area human services workers. A final article profiles three more promising personnel reforms. 4/1/04

The Casey Foundation is a major supporter of the Reentry National Media Outreach Campaign, which showcases communication resources  focusing on the reintegration of the 600,000 men and women leaving prison annually and returning to their families and communities.  The website provides discussion guides, clips from TV and radio productions, and "Outside the Walls: A National Snapshot of Community-Based Prisoner Reentry Programs." 1/27/04


  Latest data on child well-being now available! Our 15th annual KIDS COUNT Data Book provides a state-by-state statistical portrait of the educational, health, and economic conditions of American children. This year’s essay focuses on the increasing number of “disconnected” youth without degrees or employment who face a tough transition to adulthood. Latest data on infant well-being now available
The Right Start For America's Newborns: City and State Trends 1990-2001, a KIDS COUNT online report, addresses the Foundation's belief that conditions under which infants are born can have lifelong effects on child development and  school readiness. The report uses data from birth certificates to track key measures of child well-being in the 50 states and 55 large cities in the US. KIDS COUNT: State-Level Measures of Child Well-Being for Children of Color provide statistics on economic, educational, and social well-being for children of color in the US from the 2000 Census. Pocket guides are available with information on child well-being for Asian-American Children NEW!, American-Indian Children NEW!, Latino Children and African-American Children. Order hard copies of the guides. 2/4/04


 

Casey Connects is a newsletter that reports on current activities of the Foundation and its grantees. The winter 2004 issue highlights efforts to help ensure better futures for people returning from prison and their families and communities. It also offers an update on the Family to Family program focusing on child welfare leadership and a listing of recent accomplishments by Foundation grantees and partners. Five Organizations Named 2004 FAMILIES COUNT Honorees
The Foundation is pleased to announce the 2004 FAMILIES COUNT National honorees. We recognize these remarkable organizations for connecting families to the support, opportunities and resources they need to thrive in tough neighborhoods.
