Sept 27th

We got up to Children's Hospital of Atlanta an hour early so we had
some time to act silly while waiting.  Yet another sleep study to
see how her sleep apnea is doing. Got a call from her pulmonologist
Dr Popler, letting us know her diaphragmatic study under flouro
showed she will probably not need a plication.  The right side of her
diaphragm is working in unison with the left side although not able to
open as much as the left.  All that means is the right side is still
definitely weaker but at least it is working.  Then there is the issue
of gas in her intestine which continues to push on her diaphragm
making it even harder for it to open causing the restrictive lung
disease.  Her pulmonologist also suspects that is why her
little heart is rotated.

This was by far the worse experience we have had with a sleep study.  The tech was just in a bad mood and made sure to take it out on my little girl.  As many of you know Adi has had a rough go with nasal canulas.  When she was a year old and were living in Utah, in order to keep her oxygen stats in the 90's she needed to be on constant oxygen.  Since our move from Utah to lower elevations she has not needed to be on it constantly but her memory of that time has scarred her for life.  At my insistence I asked the tech to hold off until she was in a deep sleep to come in and put it on her.  At 11:30 the tech storms in waking both of us and jams the canula in Adi's nose.  Of course it caused Adi to cry for the next hour and I just took it off knowing we would not get the most important info we get from her sleep studies-- CO2 levels.

Happy Birthday Adi!

No birthday is complete without Birthday Cereal!

We had an ice cream party at school with
all the toppings a kid could want

This is Adi with Mrs. Sargent
Image
Mrs Sargent has been great to help Adi fit in as much as possible.  Adi is the shortest kid in class and has a hard time sitting at the lunch tables and being able to see her food.  As a result Adi has not really been eating any of her lunch so Mrs. Sargent has sat her on her lap so she can eat without being embarrassed from having to be the only kid sitting in a booster.  What a great teacher!

As we were leaving the class I got to experience what Mrs Sargent calls the most animated part of her school day....  When Adi knew she was about to leave (I was holding her) she turned around and said "goodbye everyone!"  To which the class replied "bye Adi" in unison.  This kid is now 5 years old, 27 pounds, and a little fragile but her little body is as jammed packed full of personality and spunk as they come.  Love this little girl and feel so grateful to be her mom!

September Football/ fun/ Az starts Little Bears

BYU's first football game of this season we got the girls all ready to watch the game with Dad.
Image
We met Ashley and Ila at Sai Rehab while they were waiting for Brian to get physical therapy.   Ila has become a great friend to my girls and Ashley and I decided they needed to hang out one more time before school started.  Both the girls are joining programs connected with the local high schools.  Ila will be an Eagle and Az will be a little Bear.  Ashley took us to Lane's to pick flowers and play.  It was a fun couple of hours before we had to run to pick up Adi.

Sept 11th- Az's first day at Little Bear's
Image
Az was in heaven the moment she walked through the door.
Needless to say she didn't have a hard time seeing Adi and I leave.
It also helpedthat 5 of the 12 kids in the class are in her nursery class at church :)
Image
Cute Karmryn has become her favorite friend in Little Bears
Image
I tried so hard to have Az look at the camera all day
but as you can see has more important things to do ;)
Image
Cute picture she made as I walked through the door -- she said
"mom I made u this because I was thinking of you."
How sweet but I knew she didn't think of me at all
until I walked in because she had had so much fun.

Adi's Pre-school

Scott flew home on 28th and we went back to California to fly out of
LAX on the 31th.  As a result Scott got to go to Adi's school to meet
the teacher without her.  Scott then drove the 2 hours to pick us up
from the airport.  When we landed there wasn't a terminal
open for the plane so we got stuck waiting a little over an hour.
We were hungry, the girls were tired but had not slept so they were
beyond cranky.  The moodiness left the moment we saw dad
waiting for us.... and dad of the year showed up with pizza,
bread bites and a cooler of drinks.
Image
Then as if that wasn't enough he had the house decked out with
tea lights, salts by the bath, candles and roses.  What more can a
woman ask for? ;) He went from dad of the year to
whatever is above that and super husband.

The next morning started early getting Adi ready for her first day of school in Miss Kilpatrick's class.

Image
As the kids came in they were able to sit at the tables and play
but as you can see they were to busy looking around.
Image
We left Adi after about half hour and she was more than happy to stay
Image
When we got home Az wanted to play school so we started a couple of art projects.  She wanted so badly to be able to go to school.  She probably asked me about 30 times during the 2 1/2 hours Adi was at school if it was time to pick her up yet.  When I would tell her it wasn't she would reply well it's just that I miss her sooooooooooo much.  What a cutie!  I know I was a little anxious because I kept thinking I was hearing my phone ring.  I normally don't have my phone on me but that day I had it as loud as it would go and on me person at all times.  I would also constantly looking at the clock to make sure I wasn't late to pick her up. Then 30 mins before I was to pick her up I got a phone call from the school saying she was absent....  ABSENT what!!!  I calmly told the lady she was mistaken and that I had dropped her off this morning.  The lady sounded a little concerned which made my anxiety level rise.  Finally I said a little prayer in my heart and calmed down but guess what mom was 10 mins early to pick up her child?
Adi came home complaining about the boys being to loud.  The next day was not as easy to get her to school.  Scott and I knew what kids misbehaved in class, who was crying, and how she cried and covered her ears.  After two days we knew something needed to be done so we decided to try the normal pre-school class and took her out of the special ed class.  We had put her in the special ed knowing we liked there would only be 8 kids in a class and that the germs would be much less than a normal class of up to 22 kids.  She started on a Wednesday and by Friday we had her in Mrs. Sargent's class.  When I met her for the first time she apologized for the confusion on the first day of school.  She said Adi was on her roster and when she got the news Adi was in school she ran around looking for Adilade.  She went to the other pre-k class quickly and didn't find her and then was just feeling sick to her stomach.  Finally she went over to the special ed class and found her there.  She said she felt so relieved when she finally found her. After talking to her for a couple of minutes and asking her some questions I felt peace and knew she would be the best teacher for Adi.
A week later I was asked to come in to meet with the districts IEP/ special needs coordinator, the principal and her teacher.  To make a long story short I was told that because of funding and Pre-k being a lottery program Adi would either have to stay all day in the regular class or have to go back to the special ed class.  I of course voiced my concerns about Adi not liking the special ed class and knew she doesn't have the endurance to stay all day yet.  I left being handed a piece of paper with different daycares in the area she could possible join, the principal said she would talk someone to see if there was any way to get around the full day issue because of her special circumstances and told me to continue bringing Adi until she had a definite answer.  I finally got a call from the principal saying she had to send all of Adi's papers to someone in the school district to get special approval and that it would take about a month to get a definite answer.  I would happily home school my little girl but I knew she needed to learn how to listen to directions from a teacher and needed to gain the social skills that happen in a school setting.  Scott and I decided we would take it one day at a time and that if the answer came back that she could not attend this class we would just take her out and be grateful for the month she did get in a school setting.
Image
So at the end of the month Scott came home to find Adi and Az hiding in their rooms.  They had taken markers and "put on make up."  They were both so proud to show it off once they were caught. ;)
