Three pieces about Goldman Sachs:

The Goldman Sachs project — New world government?
November 18, 2011

“By leading the world’s economies into chaos, Goldman Sachs is creating a situation where they can replace key government leaders with their own people.
It’s a cheap con: scare your victim then move in to offer ‘protection.’

That’s the technique that’s now being used on a global scale to oust world leaders and effectively take over world government…”

The piece at Digital Journal points out that two world leaders, in countries where there are financial crises, have connections to Goldman Sachs:

Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos has ties to Goldman Sachs.

The Prime Minister of Italy, Mario Monti, “was an international adviser to Goldman Sachs from 2005 until his nomination to lead the Italian government.”

Please check out “Sonny Meadows Week” at Peace Couple (plus, quiz at bottom of this post)

ImageAs many of you know, Sonny Meadows is a local musician and activist, here on Long Island, New York. The Wilders have admired his work — and his many solo performances and band performances — over the years. With the advent of the occupy movement, it seems to us that Sonny’s music about injustice, social justice, war and peace, is even more valuable. Now there are legions of empowered people to enjoy these songs, and learn this music.

At our Peace Couple website, we do a “Peace Song of the Day”, every day of the year. We used this past week to celebrate Sonny Meadows. If you go over there, you can check out which 7 songs we picked from among Sonny’s long list of favorites. (Maybe you want to guess first, or, think which of his songs you would have chosen, before you click over?)

For the real insiders, we could not resist making a game out of this project. So, at the readmore, you can find a quiz. See if you can match the Sonny Meadows song, with a brief quote from the lyrics. (And, if my darling husband is reading this, you have to play, too! And, no cheating!)

NY Parents and Children Rally Against Bullying

Children at Occupy Wall StreetNY Parents & Children Rally Against NYPD Bullies
March in Solidarity with Occupy Wall Street

This Saturday [Today, December 10, 2011], Parents for Occupy Wall Street will march with our children from Union Square to City Hall Park to deliver a “stop bullying” message to NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and his boss, Mayor Michael Bloomberg.  This event will mark International Human Rights Day. The children will place 5,000 paper hearts, one for each peaceful protester arrested nationwide over the past three months, in the center of the park.

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, December 10th, in Union Square at 11 AM, the children will hold a General Assembly, and paint the paper hearts.  At 12:30pm, we will march down Broadway to Foley Sq. (State Supreme Court) and then to City Hall Park, arriving at approximately 2 PM.

“We teach our children at home and in schools that bullying is wrong,” said Mark Hamilton of Parents for Occupy Wall St. “The violence by some in the NYPD against peaceful protesters is confusing our children; we are left to explain unprofessional and inexcusable actions.” Continue reading

NY’s Tea Party Guv Gives 1% a Tax Cut

IW: I figured it was the media swallowing NY Guv Cuomo’s PR wholesale when they were reporting he was hiking taxes on the wealthy.  Cuomo got elected with contributions from the Koch Bros.  Cuomo stated before taking office that the rich are taxed too much already.  Cuomo refused to ever discuss repealing the rebate of the stock transfer tax.  He still doesn’t get it.  One. Term . Governor.

Green Party Slams Cuomo’s Tax Cut For The Rich

ImageThe Green Party of NY State slammed Gov. Cuomo and the State Legislature’s proposed tax bracket reshuffling as a major tax giveaway to the wealthiest New Yorkers.  The Green Party also called for seizing the assets of the “too big to fail” banks, breaking them up, and turning them into state and community owned banks oriented towards developing the economy for the public good.

“Cuomo’s plan is once-again a tax giveaway to his friends on Wall St. and in the 1% who donate to Democratic and Republican party campaigns.” said state party co-chair Howie Hawkins. ”Gov. Cuomo should explain why his regressive tax reform, which cuts taxes for the wealthiest should be adopted when it will actually cause a a multi-billion dollar budget deficit.  Last year I ran on a platform of raising personal income tax rates to the progressive rates of the 1970s and collecting the stock transfer tax, and using that money to and provide full employment through a Green New Deal. It’s time to make the Wall St. criminals and the wealthy pay for the mess they created. If we followed the Green Party plan, we’d raise nearly $8 billion yearly from income taxes while cutting what most people pay, and collecting the $15 billion we get from the stock transfer tax would go a long way towards making Wall St. clean up the mess they created.

State party co-chair Howie Hawkins pointed out that a family making:  Continue reading

Occupy Oakland and others call for a shutdown of all west coast ports on December 12th

When Occupy Oakland called for a general strike on November 2nd, they were able to shut down the Port of Oakland. It was a great moment for the power of the people, the power of the 99%, and the cause of the occupation.

Now, many of the west coast occupations have gotten together in an attempt to shut down all west coast ports. Occupy Portland (Oregon) and Occupy Oakland (California) are hubs for this action, though, all west coast cities are being asked to participate in a “Coordinated West Coast Port Blockade”.

How can you support this historic event on Monday, December 12th? (Some ideas: Let your friends in California, Oregon, and other west coast states know; Blog about the action alert; Share the video; Go to Oakland or Portland.)

Prez hopeful Stein (G) condemns White House blockade of Durban climate progress

ImageDr. Jill Stein, Green Party presidential candidate, criticized the White House today for effectively killing a legally binding global agreement at the UN Climate Change meeting in Durban. The meeting concludes on December 9th. Stein has called for a Green New Deal to create jobs while reducing climate change.

I condemn the White House’s inaction in the face of a global emergency. The U.S.’ and other rich countries’ inaction on climate change is not only inexcusable. U.S. and global emissions continue to rise, and national legislation to reduce emissions is nowhere in sight. Even when the Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate in 2009-10, efforts to pass even weak legislation to reduce emissions were completely unsuccessful due to the powerful influence of Big Oil and Big Coal on both of the establishment political parties.

The White House’s global position reflects the influence of the fossil fuel companies that continue to dominate the energy agenda of both the Democrats and the Republicans. President Obama has himself supported offshore drilling, including granting permits to exploit the pristine environment of the Arctic,  expanding nuclear power, and promoting the unproven technique of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).  Continue reading

Occupy DC arrests beg question: Who can fix foreclosure problem — occupiers or our government?

How can you help bring attention to foreclosures. Story about Dec 6th Day of Action on Foreclosures: here.

Occupy DC built a wood structure for warmth and meetings. Police evicted them and made 31 arrests. That story at CNN: here.

Why did Occupy DC build a wood structure in McPherson Square? That story at Occupy DC and below:

Pull quote:

In a culture and city with chronic homelessness and foreclosures, this structure is a symbol of what people working together under principles of mutual aid can accomplish with limited time and resources. The police response demonstrates that our system is not committed to building up–they’re only concerned with tearing down.

Statement: The Wooden Structure
Posted on December 4th, 2011 at Occupy DC

At 12am Sunday morning Occupy DC began assembling a prefabricated wooden structure that had been designed by professional architects and engineers to provide shelter, warmth and space for General Assemblies during the winter months. At 11am Federal Park Police arrived at McPherson Square to order that the structure be disassembled within the hour. Occupiers held an emergency General Assembly to determine whether the structure should stand or be taken down. Continue reading

Tues Dec 6th: What can you do to spotlight home foreclosure crisis?

Image

Occupy Wall Street and the national occupy movement are confronting the issue of home foreclosures. This is part of a national kick-off for a new frontier for the occupy movement: the liberation of vacant bank-owned homes for those in need.

Look for events in your town. Think about ways you could help families in need or raise awareness about criminal and unjust practices of the big banks. (See Brooklyn/NYC event link at bottom.)

Prez hopeful Stein (G) calls on Obama to veto Defense Authorization as “expensive, un-American”

ImageJill Stein said today that if she were president she would veto the pending National Defense Authorization Bill as needlessly expensive and because it violates civil liberties by restricting the constitutional right to a fair trial.  Jill Stein also supports major cuts in the “massive, bloated military budget.” Stein is running for president as a Green Party candidate.

Our constitutional liberties have been under attack over the past decade, a victim of this unending war on terrorism. Congress wants to authorize the indefinite mprisonment of American citizens, without charge, and that is wrong – and the very definition of un-American. If elected, I will restore our political and civil liberty protections.

The National Defense Authorization Act would eliminate protections against the use of the military against our own citizens on American soil, as articulated by the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878. It would also empower the president and our armed forces to detain U.S. citizens and others without trial based on unsubstantiated suspicions that such persons have been involved in the attacks of September 11, 2001, or have supported Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or  or its coalition partners. Lots of fun. There will be puppets! And, some famous acts like Yes Men are up. (Already performed were Penny Arcade, Reno, and Reverend Billy).

The occupiers are at 50th and Broadway. You have to look for the huddle to find them. Some clowns, and corporate zombies, and cool signs among the crowd. Oh! And, The People’s Library, hanging out on a bench nearby.

(And, somewhere else on Broadway, you may find Pulse drum circle.)

Here is a link to the full schedule of acts from now until 6pm Saturday: schedule here
