Change username validation error message

So, right now, if someone registers with a username which has already registered, the plugin gives an incorrect username as a validation message, which does not make sense. And I see, we cannot use a custom validation like for email address. Can we at least change the validation message for username? I want something like:

“The username is incorrect or has been used. Please, correct the username or use something different.”
