    Hi @latashaaluu

    Thanks for the update!

Reinstalling the plugin is a good next step and often helps clear up cases like this where something may not have been applied cleanly during the update. As mentioned earlier, please make sure you have a full backup in place before doing so.

Once you’ve reinstalled and tried running the migration again, feel free to let us know how it goes. If the issue still persists, we can take a closer look at your setup and advise on the next steps.

    Looking forward to your update.

    Hi @worlok

Thanks for sharing the feed URL!

Similar to the Reddit feed case discussed here, I checked the feed using the W3C RSS validator and found that the feed is not a valid RSS feed. This can affect how Aggregator processes and updates items, especially in version 5, which relies more strictly on feed standards.

We understand that this feed was working as expected in version 4, and we appreciate you pointing out the difference in behavior. We will raise this with our development team to investigate further and see whether any improvements or adjustments can be made on our end.

We will get back to you once we have more information. Thanks for your patience while we look into this.

    Hi @latashaaluu

Since this is a public support forum, we unfortunately don’t have the ability to remove or edit logs that have already been posted to the thread. Only the original poster may be able to edit their own replies, depending on forum permissions.

If you’re not comfortable sharing additional details publicly, that’s completely fine. As an alternative, you can share a screenshot of your Plugins page instead, which will help us review your setup without requiring you to post logs again. Please make sure the screenshot shows the full list of active plugins and their versions.

Let us know how you’d like to proceed and we’ll take it from there.

    Hi @worlok

Thanks for sharing the feed URLs.

I checked them using the W3C Feed Validator and found that the RSS feeds are not valid. Because of this, Aggregator is not able to process and import the content correctly.

Aggregator requires a valid RSS feed in order to work as expected, and this is especially important in version 5, which follows stricter feed parsing and validation rules than previous versions.

At this point, the best next step would be to have the feed issues resolved at the source. Once the feeds validate successfully, Aggregator should be able to import them without any problems.

If you have any other feed URLs you would like us to test, feel free to share them and we will be happy to take a look.

    Hi @worlok

    Thanks for the detailed explanation.

To help us understand this better, could you please share the exact RSS feed URL you are using for one of the affected sources? We would like to test it on our end and see how it behaves with item limits in place.

It would also be very helpful if you could share a screenshot of the Source settings for that feed. You can find this under Aggregator > Sources, then click Edit on the source in question and take a screenshot of the full settings page.

Once we have those details, we will be able to take a closer look and advise on the next steps.

    Hi @worlok

Thanks for sharing the details so far.

To help us investigate this further, could you please share the exact RSS feed URL that is returning the 403 error? Once we have the specific feed URL, we can test it on our end and take a closer look at how it is responding to requests.

This will allow us to better understand what is causing the issue and determine the best possible solution for your setup.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Hi @keithrobertlewis

Thanks for taking the time to share such a detailed explanation of what you’re experiencing. I’m really sorry to hear about the frustration this has caused.

Based on the features you mentioned, such as Feed to Post and Attribution, it looks like you are using the Premium version of Aggregator. This support forum is dedicated to the free version only, so we’re unfortunately limited in how much we can troubleshoot Premium-specific functionality here.

To make sure your case gets the proper attention from our support team, could you please reach out to us directly using our contact form.

If you already have an open support ticket with us, no need to submit a new one. We’ll be getting back to you there as soon as possible with an update.

Thanks for your understanding, and we appreciate your patience while we help you work through this.

    Hi @latashaaluu

Just to clarify, version 5.0.10 was actually released this week. That said, 5.0.10 is indeed the latest version, and yes, you can definitely try reinstalling the plugin to ensure everything is in place.

As a precaution, we strongly recommend taking a full backup of your site first, just in case anything unexpected happens during the process.

If the issue persists after reinstalling and attempting the migration again, could you please share the following details from Tools → Site Health → Info?

    • WordPress version
    • PHP version
    • PHP memory limit
    • Active plugins list
    • Server information

There’s no need to paste the full Site Health report. Please also make sure to remove or redact any sensitive information before sharing. This should give us enough context to review your environment and help identify what might still be preventing the migration from completing.

    Looking forward to your update.

    Hi @worlok

Thanks for the update, and glad to hear you were able to identify the cause.

Plugin conflicts can definitely surface during major updates like this, especially when other plugins interact with admin pages or hooks that changed between versions.

Disabling Simple Share Buttons Adder and restarting the migration was the correct step, and it’s good to know that allowed you to access Aggregator again and complete the process.

I’ll mark this thread as resolved for now. I also noticed that you opened another support topic after completing the v5 migration, so I’ll follow up and respond to you there accordingly.

Thanks again for sharing the solution, as it will help other users who run into something similar.

    Hi @thetheme

    Thanks for reaching out!

When you mention that V5 shows old feed items and doesn’t allow you to limit the number displayed, could you let us know how you’re currently displaying the feed items? Are you using a shortcode?

In V5, we introduced a new system for managing and displaying feeds called Displays. It may be worth reviewing this guide on how to convert your old shortcodes into the new format:

    Converting Migrated Shortcodes into Displays

That should help you regain control over what’s shown and how many items appear.

Let me know what you find, happy to guide you through it further if needed!

    Hi @latashaaluu

Thanks for following up and for sharing the log details.

After reviewing the entries, it looks like the issue is still related to the SimplePie library. To resolve this, please make sure that Aggregator is updated to the latest version before attempting the migration again.

Once you’ve updated the plugin, go ahead and start the migration process, this should address the issue and allow it to complete successfully.

Let me know how it goes, or if you run into any further trouble. I’m happy to help!

    (@hendcorp)

@laurelfulford We’re glad to see the issue has been resolved with the updated copy from @tw2113 , and appreciate you confirming that everything is working well on your end.

That said, we do recognize this type of dependency conflict could affect others in the future, so we’ll be implementing a more robust solution in an upcoming Aggregator update to help prevent similar issues.

Since things are now working as expected with the temporary fix, we’ll go ahead and mark this thread as resolved for now.

Let us know if anything else comes up, we’re always happy to help!

    Hi @latashaaluu

Thanks for reaching out and sorry for the trouble you experienced during the migration.

When the migration screen gets stuck on the spinner, it usually means something is failing in the background, often due to a PHP error, server limitation, or a conflict with another plugin or theme. To help us understand exactly what’s happening on your site, could you please share your PHP debug logs with us?

If WordPress debugging is not enabled yet, you can do so by editing your wp-config.php file and adding or updating the following lines:

    define( 'WP_DEBUG', true );
    define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );
    define( 'WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false );

After enabling this, please try running the migration again until it gets stuck. Then, you can find the log file at:

    /wp-content/debug.log

Please copy the contents of that file and share it here, or attach it if possible.

Once we have the PHP error details, we should be able to identify why the migration is not completing and advise on the next steps.

    Hi @misacihlar1

Thank you again for your helpful report and for sharing the workaround you’re currently using.

We’ve tested Spotlight with PHP 8.2 but haven’t been able to reproduce the same issue on our end so far. To help us investigate further, could you let us know:

    • Which specific section of the plugin the warnings are coming from?
    • If there’s a particular action or condition that consistently triggers the notices (e.g. a certain page load, shortcode use, or integration)?
    • And if possible, could you share the exact error messages or a screenshot of the output?

This will help us pinpoint the cause more accurately and ensure compatibility with caching tools like FlyingPress.

    Looking forward to your reply!
