I think you are wrong with your informations.
Its easy to implement custom user capabilities for a plugin. Thats nothing unusual.

E.g. in your plugin settings, you could offer a list of available roles and add the necessary caps.
An editor should always have more rights and options then normal users or authors.

So far, I’ve done my best to be active in this forum and put out bug fixes to the plugin. All while trying to make development play nice with my current workflow.
Not only support and releases but also communication and transparency.
Neither the previous owner nor you informed any of the users about the owner change (link).
