In 2015, the Sustaining Membership programme was launched to help fund the core costs of the association, ensure future growth and the continued support needed for two project funding rounds each year.
Arne Strate, General Secretary of the European Outdoor Group, explains why becoming an EOCA Sustaining Member was important. ‘An organisation like EOCA is geared towards driving meaningful resources towards keeping our wild places alive in a continuous manner, which is a very good investment for anyone in the outdoor sector and beyond.’

Providing companies from an entire industry the opportunity to work together, impact change and give back to nature, Brian Davidson, CEO for Nikwax, highlights why Sustaining Membership was the right thing to do. ‘Nikwax has worked closely with EOCA since its foundation in 2006, our Sustaining Membership is proof of our unwavering commitment to environmental conservation. The outdoor industry depends upon the health of our planet for its very existence, and Nikwax feels the urgency to do all that it can to help preserve it.’
Jeroen Meijer, Senior Marketing Manager EMEA for KEEN, summarises why his company continues to support EOCA. ‘As a family-owned and values-led business, we’ve always felt we have a shared responsibility to do things the right way. The commitment we made 10 years ago is as important now as it was then. EOCA is doing great work in bringing the entire outdoor industry together, taking care of our planet. Therefore, it has never been a point of discussion to move away from this commitment.’

Why should other companies consider becoming an EOCA Sustaining Member? Andy Laycock, Brand Director at Pertex, gives his reasons. ‘As outdoor companies, we gain significant benefit from the natural environment. It is a resource that we rely on, and as such we have an increased responsibility to invest in and do all that we can to conserve it. We encourage other companies to come together and join us.’
Over the last 10 years, together, these four original Sustaining Members have contributed an additional €400,000, a substantial amount that enables EOCA, and all its members within the outdoor leisure sector, to work together funding hands-on conservation that has a positive impact on nature, wildlife and wild places
