About us
We are enabling children around the world to get creative with technology and invent in school, in clubs and at home! The micro:bit is a handheld, fully programmable computer given to every Year 7 child across the UK - and now being used around the world. It’s 70 times smaller and 18 times faster than the original BBC Micro computers used in schools in the early 1980s. Started by the BBC and a great team of partners, the Micro:bit Educational Foundation is a non-profit organisation.

💚 micro:bit Live: building community through creative computing From Virginia to California, educators came together at micro:bit LIVE to explore creative ways to bring computing to life with the micro:bit — connecting, learning, and building confidence along the way. Across two separate micro:bit LIVE events, teachers, partners and innovators got hands-on, shared practical ideas, and discovered they’re part of a much wider computer science community — many for the very first time. 💚 micro:bit Live Virginia A thought-provoking keynote on thrival skills, AI and inclusive computer science education helped set the tone, as 120 educators came together to learn and connect. 💚 micro:bit Live California Champion-led, creative sessions highlighted just how playful, powerful and wide-reaching micro:bit learning can be, bringing together 60 educators from across the country. The impact: ✨ 180 educators across two events ✨ Attendees from 21 US states + Canada ✨ 95% plan to teach with micro:bit more often ✨ Nearly half were new to micro:bit What stood out most was the sense of belonging — confidence growing, ideas flowing, and educators realising they’re part of something bigger. Huge thanks to Amazon for supporting both events, and to CodeVA (Virginia) and Parallax Inc. (California) for co-hosting — plus every educator who helped make each event so special 💚 Read more on our website to explore the sessions, stories and reflections in full 👇 https://mbit.io/sm-LIVE-25 #microbitLive #CreativeComputing #CSeducation #EdTech #TeacherCommunity #ComputerScience #STEMeducation #CSforAll
