MCR Hotels’ planned deal to take Soho House & Co private may be at risk, with MCR now unable to meet its funding commitments by the anticipated closing date, according to a Jan. 8 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. According to the filing, “Yucaipa and the Special Committee of the Board of Directors of [Soho House], together with their respective advisors, are engaging with affiliates of MCR, as well as other parties, to secure the funding,” with numerous options being pursued. However, “there can be no assurance that such efforts will be successful." https://lnkd.in/gR3nCfu5

What’s ahead for the hotel industry in 2026? The experts weighed in. Over the last several weeks, I talked with industry executives from Marriott International and Hilton, travel and technology pros from PwC and Talkdesk and other leaders from JLL's Hotels & Hospitality Group, the American Hotel & Lodging Association and more. They shared the top trends that will impact hotel workforces, operations, performance, net unit growth and more this year. On the heels of a somewhat rocky year for U.S. hotels, industry players are approaching 2026 with cautious optimism. Rising #labor costs are slated to challenge hoteliers this year and lower-tier segments could struggle amid a growing wealth bifurcation. But opportunities loom as #AI advances and big events bring travelers to the U.S. Through it all, hotel companies are expected to grow their portfolios with new brand offerings and partnerships. Check out Hotel Dive’s annual trends outlook, which dives into these topics and more. Special thanks to Kevin M. Davis, Rosanna Maietta, Jonathan Kletzel, Kevin Osterhaus, Gabriel Perez and Bobby Molinary for your insights! What other hotel trends should I have my eye on this year? https://lnkd.in/gN_NpVmY

Here is a roundup of the top #hospitality industry executive appointments from the quarter, with insights into how the professionals will impact company strategy in 2026. https://lnkd.in/gXqF-_mT

Three large-scale hotel casino projects have been approved for New York City following a Monday vote by the New York State Gaming Commission. In Flushing, Queens, Hard Rock International and New York Mets owner Steve Cohen will bring Metropolitan Park to a 50-acre area surrounding the baseball team’s home stadium of Citi Field. Also in Queens, Resorts World New York City, which is owned by the Genting Group, will be expanding its existing slot machine establishment in South Ozone Park near the Aqueduct Racetrack into a 72-acre site. And in Ferry Point, the Bronx, Bally’s Corporation will build a 3 million-square-foot integrated resort. https://lnkd.in/gPJJckWQ

Hyatt appointed Jason Ballard as global brand leader for its Essentials portfolio to steer the division’s next phase of growth. In his new role, the company veteran will oversee strategy, performance and brand evolution for the Essentials portfolio, which includes Hyatt House, Hyatt Place, Hyatt Select, Hyatt Studios Hotels and others. “Jason’s leadership has been instrumental in strengthening our franchise capabilities and establishing the Hyatt Studios brand as a standout success while setting a new benchmark for flexible, owner-focused select-service hospitality,” Pete Sears, group president for the Americas at Hyatt, said. “His strategic vision and operational expertise will now guide our Essentials portfolio as we expand into more markets and deliver more value to guests, members, and owners.” https://lnkd.in/giHbwvxv

The Federal Reserve’s Wednesday rate cut has implications for the #hospitality sector, with industry leaders touting the trim as a catalyst for stronger hotel investment in 2026. Earlier this week, ahead of the reduction (but with it in mind) JLL's Kevin M. Davis and Daniel C. Peek sat down with me to share their outlooks on the hotel investment landscape in 2026. Key takeaways: additional rate cuts may be on the horizon, muted hotel performance won’t kill deal activity and luxury assets and urban markets remain poised for growth. Meanwhile, yesterday afternoon, hospitality executives shared with me their reactions to the rate cut, with American Hotel & Lodging Association President and CEO Rosanna Maietta calling it “an extremely welcome development.” Will this latest rate cut motivate sidelined investors? Check out what the experts had to say about the top trends driving hotel investment in 2026. https://lnkd.in/gqS5En2S

Hilton has partnered with luxury ocean travel brand Explora Journeys, a subsidiary of MSC Group, on a loyalty collaboration that will allow Hilton Honors members to earn and redeem points on sailing experiences worldwide. In conjunction with the partnership, Hilton debuted Hilton Honors Adventures, an extension of its loyalty program focused on immersive, adventure-driven travel. The loyalty program extension “introduces new ways for our members to experience iconic destinations and hidden gems around the world,” Hilton's Chris Silcock said. There are additional partnerships to come under the Hilton Honors Adventures program, per Hilton. https://lnkd.in/gamMpvEf

Last month, in a video posted to LinkedIn, Blackstone President and COO Jon Gray gave his followers some words of wisdom: “Very simply, buy some real estate here,” he said, referring to San Francisco. That advice became action with Blackstone’s recent investment. The firm has acquired the 277-key Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco in a deal reportedly priced near $130 million. The deal comes as the city’s beleaguered hospitality market makes a comeback thanks to its growing AI sector, Gray shared. His comments track with a JLL report from earlier this year, which found San Francisco's hotel market is poised for “robust recovery” thanks in part to the city's “burgeoning AI sector.” https://lnkd.in/g_Duvfxb

CitizenM, the company that founded, owns and operates namesake lifestyle brand citizenM hotels, has rebranded to another star. The name change comes several months after Marriott International acquired the citizenM hotel brand for $355 million. Another star will continue to own and operate the global citizenM hotels portfolio through long-term franchise agreements with Marriott. Marriott’s integration of the citizenM portfolio is slated to accelerate growth and greater global visibility for another star, which has a new U.S. hotel slated to open in the coming year. https://lnkd.in/gk5juvJw
