How to Play Pokepath TD

  • Terrain-Based Placement: Pokémon must be placed on their correct terrain types (Grass, Water, Mountain) to activate attacks and cover key paths.

  • Gold & Reinvestment Loop: Enemies drop gold that should be spent immediately to level up units during waves.

  • Mid-Wave Evolution: Leveling Pokémon mid-battle can trigger Evolutions, dramatically increasing damage, range, and efficiency.

  • Enemy Trait Counters:

    • High Armor enemies (e.g., Rhydon) require Armor Breakers like Excadrill.

    • Invisible waves (Kecleon) require Detection units such as Honchkrow.

  • Boss Farming Meta: Advanced strategies use Persian to farm gold from bosses, then reset waves with Retry to fund late-game Level 100 upgrades.

Controls: Hotkeys & UI Optimization

  • Fast Unit Selection: Number keys (1–0) instantly select party members for quick swaps during intense waves.

  • Wave & Shop Shortcuts: Spacebar starts waves instantly; S opens the shop for rapid egg purchases.

  • Target Priority Management:

    • Set burst damage units (e.g., Weavile) to Strongest for boss focus.

    • Set Armor Breakers (e.g., Machamp) to High Armor to strip defenses.

    • Live Combat Data: Press Z to view damage charts and X to toggle range indicators.

  • Late-Game Micro: Proper hotkey usage becomes essential in high-difficulty routes like Route 3-3.

Ultimate Strategy Guide: How to Win (2026 Meta)

Stop struggling with random towers. Based on data from our expert Discord community, here is how you actually dominate the game.

1. The Economy Meta: "Infinite Money"

In Pokepath TD, gold is power. The only way to max out your team is to abuse the Persian Pay Day mechanic.

  • The Unit: Persian generates gold equal to 10% of the enemy's value every time it hits.

  • The Strategy: Do not kill the Boss immediately. Instead, reach Wave 100 (Boss Wave), set your game to "Auto-Retry", and use Persian + Ditto (copying Persian) to hit the boss as many times as possible before the wave resets.

  • Best Farming Spots:

    • Early Game: Farm Articuno on Route 1-1. (~125k gold/run)

    • Mid Game: Farm Zapdos on Route 1-2. Note: Zapdos is immune to Stun, so bring Slow units.

    • End Game: Farm Suicune on Route 2-3 for maximum profit.

2. The "God Tier" Units You Must Use

Forget Gyarados. According to the current meta, these are the units you need to prioritize:

  • Ditto (The Enabler): The most important unit. Tip: Ditto uses its own level for stats. A Level 100 Ditto copying a Level 1 Charmander will have Level 100 stats. Max this first.
  • Weavile (Boss Killer): The highest single-target DPS in the game due to critical hits. Essential for melting high-HP bosses like Registeel.
  • Corsola (The Crowd Control): The best support unit. Its circular attack range and ability to slow enemies make it viable on almost every map.
  • Maractus (AOE King): When placed on a Grass Tile, Maractus deals massive Area of Effect damage, clearing waves faster than any starter.
  • Excadrill (Anti-Armor): Essential for Wave 90+ on Route 1-1 to deal with the swarms of high-armor Rhydons.

3. Dealing with "Invisible" & "High Armor" Pokepath TD Enemies

Getting leaked by enemies you can't hit?

  • Invisible (Stealth): Enemies like Kecleon are invisible. You need units with detection: Honchkrow, Xatu, or Grumpig. Pro Tip: Splash damage (from Corsola) can also reveal them if they are near other enemies.
  • High Armor: Physical attacks do little damage to armored foes (like Bastiodon). You must use Defense Breakers like Machamp or Excadrill.

Core Gameplay Mechanics Explained

Evolution & Leveling

  • Mid-Battle Evolution: Your Pokemon gain XP and evolve during the wave. A Level 16 Charmander instantly becomes Charmeleon, gaining a massive stat boost.
  • Level 100 Grind: The endgame goal is to get your entire team to Level 100 using the money farming method mentioned above.

Type Matchups? (Important!)

Unlike the main series games, Pokepath TD does NOT currently use an Elemental Type Effectiveness chart (e.g., Water is not super effective against Fire). Instead, damage is calculated based on Stats, Range, Attack Speed, and Traits (Armor/Stealth). Focus on high DPS towers rather than type coverage.

Save Management

Important: This is a browser game. Clearing your cache will delete your save.

  • Solution: Go to Settings -> Export Data. Copy the code and save it in a text file. Do this regularly!

Check out our full Save Data Guide for detailed instructions on exporting and importing your save data.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I unlock more team slots?

You start with limited slots. You unlock the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th slots by earning Stars. You gain stars by clearing waves on different maps. For example, the 10th slot requires 370 Stars.

Why is my Ditto not transforming?

Ditto always copies the first Pokemon in your party. You can change the order of your party in the team menu. Ensure your strongest unit (or Persian for farming) is in the first slot.

Can I play Pokepath TD on iPhone/iOS?

Currently, the browser version has known loading issues on iOS (stuck at 99%). We recommend playing on a Desktop PC (Chrome/Edge) or an Android device for the best experience.

What is the "Auto-Retry" setting?

In the settings menu, you can change "Auto Restart" to "Retry". This is crucial for farming. It means if you lose (or let the boss pass), you restart at the current checkpoint (Wave 100) instead of Wave 1.

Are there Shiny Pokemon?

Yes! Every time you hatch an egg, there is a small chance it will be a Shiny Pokemon. They have different colors and are highly collecting by players.
