Who We Are
SPE-Asia Pacific (M) Sdn. Bhd. is one of the five offices of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The SPE is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the collection, dissemination and exchange of technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources for the public benefit, by providing opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional abilities.
What We Do
Meeting the demand for oil and natural gas is a constant quest to advance and increase the many technologies needed to find and extract these valuable resources. SPE’s role is to further those technologies through technical publications, meetings, educational courses, and many other programs that allow industry professionals to pursue more efficient and cleaner ways to find and produce oil and natural gas in order to meet the ever growing demand for energy.

30 Years of SPE Asia Pacific: Celebrating Our Legacy, Shaping Our Future
This year marks a significant milestone for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) as it marks its 30th Anniversary in Asia Pacific. Over the past three decades, we have built a strong community of energy professionals united by a shared purpose: advancing technical knowledge, fostering collaboration, and driving the industry forward responsibly.
Established in 1995 in response to the region’s expanding membership and growing demand for activities aligned with SPE’s mission and vision. Proudly brought to Kuala Lumpur with the support of PETRONAS, the office was inaugurated on 8th September 1995. Since then, SPE Asia Pacific has grown to serve over 25,000 members across the wider region and continues to deliver more than 20 world-class events and programmes annually.

SPE Leadership Bolsters Vietnam Section, Emphasizes Energy Transition and Future Talent
The SPE Vietnam Section recently hosted a landmark visit from 2024 SPE President Terry Palish and Asia Pacific Regional Manager Justin Kijam. The 2-day engagement was designed to reinforce SPE’s commitment to its global sections, engage with key industrial and academic partners, and inspire the next generation of energy professionals in one of Southeast Asia's recently active and vibrant energy hubs. The visit highlighted the dynamic activities of the local section and its role in advancing technical dissemination and professional development in the Vietnam community.
SPE Asia Pacific Marks 3 Decades of Connection, Collaboration, and Community
SPE Asia Pacific marked its 30th anniversary this year, celebrating three decades of remarkable growth, collaboration, and technical advancement across the region.
Since its establishment in 1995, SPE Asia Pacific has expanded from fewer than 4,000 members to more than 25,000 across 41 sections and from just five student chapters to more than 90. The region now delivers over 20 conferences and exhibitions, workshops, and symposia annually, connecting business and technical professionals and advancing solutions to the industry’s most pressing challenges.

The Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp.) and SPE Asia Pacific signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development of a future-ready energy workforce and strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional hub for technical expertise and innovation.
