Welcome to Zoo Med Laboratories!
Here at Zoo Med, animals are our passion, and for 49 years we have made it our mission to supply the very best in exotic pet foods, reptile products, and reptile habitats. As a company made up of reptile hobbyists, we strive to provide the supplies and knowledge needed to successfully care for reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects and other exotic pets to keep them happy and healthy.
The reptile supplies, accessories, and tools we manufacture are first tested at our office on the private collection of animals we house here. Many of us have desk pets, and many of those desks are wedged into places inbetween the 200+ terrariums, aquariums, paludariums, and other habitats at our facility. Inside our Animal Room we house over 90 species ranging from chameleons, geckos, skinks, frogs, fish, newts, tarantulas, and beetles. Outside in our Turtle Nirvana Greenhouse, we care for 30 species of turtles and tortoises, several of which are endangered.
Breeding and caring for these animals daily sets us apart by giving us a clear understanding of fellow hobbyists’ needs and those of their animals. We love our pets and truly are a company of pet people for pet people!
Whether you are an experienced reptile snake breeder or gecko breeder working with hundreds of animals, or you’re looking into picking up your first pet bearded dragon, Zoo Med is sure to have what you need.

This 18x18x24 Naturalistic Terrarium was built to display this lovely Bearded Anole. We used our new Bio Blend substate to satisfy the Areca Palms & Bird’s Nest Fern, and a variety of different Cork Rounds and Branches for the hardscape. The combination created the perfect web for this young Bearded Anole to navigate and feel secure!

Congratulations to Exotic Pet Birds & More @exoticpetbirdsinc for being our May store of the month! Jamie and Sal Salafia took their first steps into the pet industry in 2017 opening a bird only store out of an extra room in their house. Over the course of the next three years they expanded into a stand only store in Webster NY with 1,700 square feet of space. As the business experienced success they saw their next calling and added reptile as well as expanding the store to over 7,000 square feet. Then in 2025 the Salafias decided it was time to go big and moved to Henrietta, NY into a space with almost 10,000 square feet and added 3 new categories in dog, cat and small animals!
Uniquely Exotic Pet Birds actually breeds many of the birds that are available in the store, including most of the hook-bills. The avian nursery located centrally in the store, allows customers the unique experience to witness eggs hatching, babies being hand-fed and even DNA tests being done.

A beautiful vivarium for a group of Golden Poison Frogs (Phyllobates terribilis), some of the largest and most toxic poison frogs in the world! Of course, captive bred individuals like these are not toxic, but are just as breathtaking as their wild counterparts. To get the most out of that amazing yellow color, consider trying our new ReptiSun LED and Combo Hood, which have some of the highest CRI (Color Rendering Index) of any reptile LED on the market!
This amazing build was done by @warriors_dartfrogs !

Wrapping up turtle week with a bang! This is the Fly-river turtle, an iconic species hailing from river systems of Papua New Guinea. This species is adapted to spend the vast majority of their time in the water, sporting highly specialized fins for powerful and efficient swimming and their characteristic pig-like nose. Low hanging and fallen fruits and nuts make up the majority of their wild diet, but they will also feed opportunistically on live prey.
To learn more about the Fly-river turtle, be sure to give the Turtle Tea Podcast episode titled “Fly River Turtles: The “Holy Grail” Species” with Raul Gonzalez a listen.
One additional note for educators! It’s never too late to teach the next generation about the chelonian world! Educational materials are still available for download off our website.
