I WAS Nominated! But ...
My podcast (under its old name of "Practical Spirituality") made the final nomination slate before judging of the 20th Annual People's Choice Podcast Awards (2025), for the category of "Religion & Spirituality". Sadly, the founder Todd Cochrane - a respected advocate for podcasting - passed away barely a week before the awards ceremony. The program was put on indefinite hiatus, and no awards were given. It might be reschedule, or it might not be.
I don't expect to win, but it was amazing being nominated. While seeing who my competition was, i.e. some great podcasters, I was honored to sit beside them representing another side of religion.
For more info on this prestigious award ceremony visit its wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast_Awards

What's new? (UPDATED 6/2026)
1. CHECK OUT MY MUSIC!
In November 2025 I finally released my debut solo single. I wrote all the lyrics, played the instruments and sang, and did production. No A.I.! My previous outings have either been group collaborations, production work for others, or doing some ambient industrial music in collaboration. Now its my own songs and my own playing. If you like twisted psychobilly and outsider music check out my music.
YOu can find my music on bandcamp (links below) under "punkvis cash", my alter ego, plus itunes, Amazon, Youtube Music, Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Medianet, Pandora, Tidal, NetEase, Sound Exchange. My debut single was originally released to all the above services under "Aaron JOy & The Slightly confused". (Slightly Confused is what my wife says my resting state is.). Look for the official videos on youtube & rumble.

2. MY BOOKS ARE NOT A.I. GENERATED!
I hate to say this, but it seems necessary, having seen other crossword puzzle books mass produced over a weekend with little love. The topics are often based on my own musical interests. I research each topic primarily using wikipedia, choose clues/words myself, create the final puzzle with a simple non-A.I. program, use bing to find images I then tweak for printing, and finally format the books myself using Publisher and tedious amounts of cutting and pasting. It is a time-consuming process, and a few books have taken over a year to create, including a few I completely tore apart and redid to better represent the bands. Not to mention I often look up musicians via google, and listen to their music, during the creation process to verify their inclusion in the book. The erratic publishing schedule is due to the fact these are not mass produced by AI over a weekend, but carefully crafted.
The only thing A.I. generated is the new cover images rolled out in 2026 when I moved my books from Lulu to Amazon publishing. The old covers were all my work.
As for my other books - they've all been written by me, too. I put a lot of myself into my books, non-fiction and particularly fiction, which is stuff in my head A.I. doesn't know. The characters in my novel are based on amalgamations of real people. Descriptions and places often come from my own experiences. this is one of the reasons my production of them is scarce, as when you don't rely on A.i. things take time.

3. i'm available for work and giving reviews!
I'm available for interviews, speaker, editor roles, writing/co-writing projects, project production, blogger, instructor, etc..
I am happy to review your books, album, etc. for that front cover quote, etc, though I have no forum of my own for such reviews.
Feel free to reach out, but my time is limited so don't take it personally if I can't help you.
I have been self-publishing since 1999. I created my first book on the now non-existant word processor. Few people I knew had a home computer. It was a 400 page history of the parks of bellingham, washington. my next book came a few years later ("da Eyes: the Striptease") via lulu publishing, one of the earlier publishing on the demand platforms. they were then known as "vanity" platforms Today and looked down upon, whereas today they are slowly becoming the norm. even henry rollins goes this route. I can also proudly say my publishing went from a hobby to a side income, but it took years of work and lots of mistakes.
through this journey - since the 4th grade when I sat down one day and wrote a play and never stopped writing - I've learned a lot about writing and self-publishing. i think it only makes sense that I want to help others not make the dramatic mistakes I have and see them achieve the same success, if not more. I enjoy working with others to see their project to the end. if you'd like to work with me, please reach out.
but, I should say, I no longer do things as I did once just to associate myself with a famous name or project that is promising to be huge. I've seen too many of those promises fail, with time wasted. I prefer working with people who are invested in themselves and their art, and somewhat realistic as to their goals. to this I even declined writing the memoir of a famous jazz musician - he had recorded with Herbie hancock extensively, sonny rollins, santana - as his eye was soley on fame and fortune and not love of the project itself, even though I'm a huge jazz fan and was asked to do the project. I also only take projects that I support and would be willing to share with others.
