Amazing phone in 2024. Superb battery life. Beautiful screen. Impressive camera. Snappy CPU.
I've had this phone for a week, and so far I'm extremely impressed for paying $370. This phone has great flagship tier specs. Pros: The screen is beautiful at 6.6 inches. The OLED screen is bright, even in sunlight. My last phone struggled there. The 144hz display feels amazing in my hands. The carbon fiber backing of this phone feels very premium. It's soft and super durable. I feel bad putting a case on it! It needs to be shown off haha. The aluminum sides feel nice. I've never had a phone this waterproof and I'm afraid to test it haha. The 68w fast charging is amazing, I went from 10%-100% in around 30 minutes. That's mind blowing. The battery lasts over night, and throughout the next day. I top off before bed and don't worry about it again. The camera is remarkable. A huge step up from my previous phone. Anyone who says this camera isn't good, relies too much on ai processing. The only thing it's missing is telescopic view. Ready for Smart Connect is LIFE CHANGING. I'm able to use my phone while on my computer at work. It has made phone usage and communication so much better. It has so many features I would need to make a video about it. The 5G is blazing fast on ATT prepaid. You'd think it would cost extra to see speeds increase this much! Only had 4g before. It has great Bluetooth specs, supports aptX Adaptive Lossless. Usually that's reserved for the top flagships! I use wired so I won't use it soon, but will be nice if I need it. Face unlock is so fast it usually beats my fingerprint! Cons: It's missing expandable storage, and a headphone jack. I was holding out for a phone that had those two specs, but this phone's price and performance won me over It gets a bit warm when using the phone. It's never super concerning, but it's definitely a reminder for me to set my phone for down for a bit to cool off. Overall, hands down an amazing purchase for under $400. I would recommend to anyone looking for an android at $400 or less

Great Phone! Better than I expected. Missing only 2 things...

I dropped my pretty new Samsung s23 ultra on a jobsite and cracked the screen bad. replacement screen for my color phone is not available. so I needed a new phone. I had this one overnight'ed to me. I got a case that looked like it would be the most protective. and i set it up to use as a temp phone. I have been very impressed! so far it's been awesome.

      Pro's: - Incredible battery life

      - smooth operation (it is fast and responsive),

      - flat screen (no useless curved edges)

      - crisp screen with good colors,

      - good cameras (not the single best out there, but still very good),

      - handy, light weight, easy to set up and use.

      - 'Ready For'!!! holy cow, they did it right! better than Dex, better than old continuum, single best phone to PC user interface i have seen. fast, smooth, and so extremely useful!!! when I'm in the office it is great for sharing pics and contacts and websites between devices, it is brilliant! probably the most understated feature of the phone. the 'Windows 365' for large corporations and such is lost on most of the world, but most basic users can really benefit from the 'Mobile Desktop' mode. it's awesome!

Con's: it is only missing 2 things.

1: stylus. Motorola already has a stylus phone, they have the technology, should have put it with this phone, or maybe used the surface protocol so when you have a surface pen you can use it on the phone too. really a huge benefit that not enough manufacturers offer. marking up pictures precisely, finite controls with something smaller than the tip of my finger. stylus is huge and should be an option on the next iteration.

2: micro-SD card. I know all the phone companies think we live next to a cell tower and have 5 bars all the time, but that is not true. in the mountains the signal strength is always changing. it is so much better to have room to store important file on the phone that you can rely on being there, and plenty of them without have to wonder if you will run out of room. that would make all newer phone better. cloud storage is awesome, but it's not always as accessible as the commercials indicate. local storage is a must. and being able to have more would give this device an advantage over all the rest of the phones that don't offer it anymore.

3: More case options. The case that comes with it is a joke. It needs a good rubbery Otterbox defender style case. I have not seen one yet.

In short, I really like this phone, the Ready For is so useful that there is a good chance that I will not go back to my Samsung after it is fixed.

If this phone had a stylus, it would be no competition, ThinkPhone for the win!

If it had a stylus and micro sd card slot, it would be just that much better.

This is a great phone and Moto lowered the specs on later versions. Moto phones don't come with bloatware and are a raw android.

I've had this over one year and no issues. It it somewhat difficult to get screen covers and cases for this model. Primarily I got this phone for the specs and I trust Moto brand and like ThinkPad.

The camera takes good pictures and can use Google to edit them accordingly.

I haven't owned a Motorola device since the 2nd generation Moto X back in 2014. The Galaxy S22, while a nice phone, was too small and I found that I missed the stock android experience, so when I found the Edge+ on sale for way less than most flagships go for these days, I went for it.

The basics: setup is easy, especially if you're upgrading from another android phone. You could do things wirelessly, or you could get a fast USB 3.0 cable and immediately copy all of your photos, call history, texts, apps, and everything else over in minutes. You don't need to power this phone off to install your sim card either. Just pop it in, and your carrier will be recognized in moments. The fingerprint reader can be a bit finicky if you're using a screen protector, so keep this in mind: if you set your prints before you installed it, delete them, and re-apply them. You shouldn't have much issues after this.

Performance: The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a incredibly processor. It's more than capable of handling whatever you throw at it. Even after installing several system updates it's speed remains top notch.

Features: You'll have access to all kinds to personalization and gesture features that you can tune to your liking. Chop to turn on your flashlight and twisting the phone to enable the camera are both great features that were on the OG Moto X, so it's cool to know that they were kept on newer devices.

Condition: Always check your sellers on this platform. The model I bought was shipped and sold from Amazon.com, which made the purchase a no brainer as returns/refunds/shipping would be a simple process. Still, when I received the Edge+, I noticed that the seal on the actual manufacturer's box was already cut. While nothing was missing from the box and the phone was clearly in new condition and hadn't been touched, it was still a bit odd.

Either way, less is more. $399 for a phone with these specs is a bargain in a time where the current culture is pushing you to spend $1K on a phone. Are the cameras the best? No, but it takes solid photos and videos. And while Motorola only provides 3 years of software upgrades and four years of security updates, you honestly don't need to have the newest version of android as soon as they release. Trust me. These devices are already feature rich, and as far as security is concerned, use common sense: don't download sketchy apps or suspicious files onto your phone, or give your phone number to any sketchy characters.

That said, this is a solid device.

Great phone - will keep me on android a little bit longer

This phone is pretty great. I am not someone who changes phones a lot. When I get one I like, I ride it until it fails in some way. My old Motorola Z3 from 2018 was becoming unreliable, lines on the screen, battery less resilient, and the radio seemed to be less able to find signal. It could be sitting right next to my work phone (iphone 14) and it would barely have a bar or two, while my work phone would have 4. I know eventually I will probably move to an iphone for simplicity, but I am holding out a little longer. After a lot of research, this looked like a decent phone, so I gave it a shot.

I picked this model, the 512GB, because I knew that phone manufacturers have stopped putting micro SD ports on phones. I hate that fact, but it's done, so all we can do is react. There are a few things about this phone I really like, and some not so great.

      Pros:

-512GB is a lot of storage

-Similar size / feel to my old Z3

-Battery is a BEAST - I can run all day and have yet to see this under 50%

-Screen is bright and clear - no lines

-Radio picks up great signal - I have yet to see it with less than 3 bars

-Still getting updates - I know any new phone would have done this, but coming from a 2018 phone, this is nice

-It is Motorola, so it works a lot like my old phone did, gestures etc...

-Feels faster than Z3 was. More ram / faster snapdragon processor

      Cons:

-The storage amount is impressive - but the transfer rate is pretty bad. Hooked up to PC on USB 3.1 it takes a long time to get files from PC to phone. I tried to copy the contents of my old 512GB micro SD (around 412GB which I had moved to my 13th gen i7 PCs SSD) to the phone, and it ran forever, copied 63 GBs and lost connection. I will try again later, but will break into smaller blocks when I do.

-The slanted edge part of the screen is a cute gimmick, but it makes for a lousy surface for your screen protector. As a result, you do not have the wide selection of gorilla glass impact resistant screen protectors that you see with other model phones. You have a small selection of the old style of soft plastic. and they love to come up off along the edges.

Overall I would recommend this to anyone looking for a newer android that still has a classic feel. As long as you're not to particular how your screen protector stays attached.

I have been through alot of different phones. I have had this phone for about 2 years now and I can honestly say it's the best android phone I have ever owned. Its ultra reliable and I work for a large fortune 500 company where their mdm requires the highest security. So far I have had no issues with that despite this phone technically pushing 3 years since release. It's unfortunate they are no longer making these because I would buy another. I am a huge thinkpad fan so I was excited to see a thinkphone when it came out. There has been no disappointment, and the price point is amazing.

Amazing Phone. Truly Flagship Grade. Problem with Packaging.

Received this phone today, so I haven't had it in my hands all that long. With that being said, from what I've experienced so far, this phone is truly competing with the best of the best.

      Pros:

      1. The screen is gorgeous and pops with inky vibrant colors and deep blacks. It's also capable of up to 165 hz refresh which is top notch. Everything is fluid and I really couldn't ask for more. The display also goes up to 1,300 nits, so it should be visible in direct sunlight.

      2. The camera takes very nice photos that are compete with other flagships. The camera setup is versatile with a 50 MP OIS main camera, 50 MP ultra wide and a 12 megapixel 2X telephoto lens. Very happy with these cameras. I have not had a chance to test them in low light or take much video though.

      3. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and 8GB ram make performance as quick as it gets. There is no perceivable lag when moving around the phone or doing tasks in apps.

      4. The build quality feels amazing in hand. It definitely feels solidly put together. The back of the phone is gorilla glass, but the sandblasted texture feels great in hand and prevents smudges.

      5. Charging speed is one of the things that blew me away the most about this phone! It's amazing. It charges seriously fast at up to 68 watts when using the included adapter, and doesn't get too hot while doing so either. I charged from 20 percent to 80 percent in 21.5 minutes. From 20 percent to 50 percent it only took 9 minutes. Not sure how this will impact battery longevity in several years, but Motorola does give you the option to turn it off. The Phone is capable of 15 watt wireless charging too, which is a nice touch. Be aware that this phone does not contain MagSafe magnets like iPhone. You'll have to buy a case for that feature.

      Cons:

      1. The update support is not as long as other competitors. Motorola promised 3 years of OS updates and a total of 4 years of security patches. So in total that's 4 years of keeping the phone secured. Samsung and Google have longer update policies that beat this number. As this phone was officially released in May of 2023, it's already been out for over 1.5 years as of this review. It should still receive updates at least until Mid-2027. That was long enough to make me feel ok buying it. But I'd consider your needs before purchasing.

      2. There are some preloaded apps. But every phone except iPhone or Pixel does this. Luckily they can be uninstalled or disabled.

      3. When I took the phone out of the box, I had to spend 1-2 hours applying all of the updates. The phone was nowhere near updated to the latest OS or security patches. That was a pain. But some other phones have this issue too.

      4. Probably the biggest con (and maybe specific to Amazon). The security seal sticker on the retail box was already broken when I received the phone. I ordered item shipped and sold by Amazon and double checked to make sure. I was very irritated when I first realized this. However, it seems I'm not the only one who's had this issue. Upon inspecting the device and the rest of the box, it seems like it was never used or altered. But it still leaves a bad taste in the mouth for someone buying a phone listed as being Brand new. I think what might have happened is the sticker ripped apart during shipping and handling. It's a very thin security sticker that feels more like tissue paper where the seal was broken. Still, I'm very disappointed Amazon would be selling new units with a defective seal. I'm considering returning and buying this phone at another retailer due to the issue.

Overall, I think this is a wonderful flagship level device from Motorola. There is really nothing I've discovered that I don't like (aside from the issue with the packaging). For the sale price I paid of $400 unlocked, I think it's truly an amazing value. I highly recommend this device. My advice would perhaps be to buy the phone at a physical retail store and inspect the packaging before purchasing. Amazon should be made aware that these phone boxes were either previously opened or manufactured with defective seals.

-->> 2nd edit to my review: i returned the phone to Amazon and bought it again with best buy and it worked right out of the box. - Verizon said the IMEI of the Amazon phone wasn't compatible<<--

I bought this phone on May 19th 2023 when it was first available. I got it two days later. The following day I wanted to activate it with Verizon, this phone was clearly advertised as being compatible for Verizon. Verizon told me otherwise. Motorola told me it's compatible with Verizon. I had to argue with both companies that they oppose each other's opinion and I'm just the person who pays for the device. There was no solution being offered from neither of both parties. It is unbelievable that Motorola could not find the issue and you would think they work long enough together with all the carriers to figure out how to make a phone and how to sell it. Since Motorola couldn't find out this problem the literally told me I want to return it and ask for my money back.

I asked them if they are going to tell this every single customer who wants to buy this device and cannot activate it, opposing the initial compatibility as per advertisement. I got nothing but apologies.

      Don't buy this phone!

The initial title of my review was :

"not overwhelming for a current flagship"

This is my second motorola. The first one I just replaced with this edge Plus 2023. I must say it's nice but not overwhelming for the price I paid. My old Motorola MOTO z4, which is now 4yrs years old, had also already a 50 megapixel camera. So this did not change much except of the software. Also my old Motorola has a much more saturated colored display ( if you compare one by one). However the display is very good and the stereo speakers do the rest, YouTube videos are a charm. It's a downside not to have an external memory card slot. However, I can use an adapter cable and access a flash drive through USBC. I may update this review.

Couple of items relevant to review 1) I moved from an aging OnePlus 7t, 2) paid $599.

Needed a new phone, and my shortlist was new released Pixel 8, Samsung S23 and OnePlus 11 5g.

If the OnePlus has wireless charging it might have been a tougher call but lacking that convenience and $100 more expensive cut that out

Samsungs skin I dislike as well as the large amount of bloatware made me shy away.

Pixel 8 nearly got me. But price was on the high side, plus google bait and switched me on a promotion so that didn't help me.

Here's the thing - online reviews compared this phone generally favourably at a price point $200 more than available on Amazon. So took a leap of faith for Motorola.

First up - battery life - just awesome. If I don't fiddle with the phone then 2 days is easily achieved with battery to spare. Mess with it all day and still have over half the battery when go to sleep.

Display. Yeah the curved edges remind me of my Samsung S6 Edge. But they seem more responsive and less inclined to accidental touch, maybe my case is a little thicker.

Apparently the display is not as sharp as some but it appears plenty fine to me. And visible outside if ramp up the brightness.

Ample storage, a standard 512Gb is just luxury, no cleaning out to photos and videos for a while.

Phone is enough weight to know it's in my pocket but not a brick.

Size wise I like it. I am not carrying a tablet but it's not a tiny display.

Charging with supplied brick is fast. Very fast. Wireless charging with a cheap no brand wireless charger stand on my office desk is very cool too and 15W whilst not super fast is fine for my work day, especially since the capacity for the consumption rate is so high anyway.

The hugest negative I have is when on speaker phone people complain about audio quality. When using for work I use a headset and otherwise handheld to my ear, or obviously in the car via Bluetooth so my use case for speakerphone is low. Maybe related to my case which is fairly chunky.

The multi sim functionality is nicely integrated into this version of Android, I have a physical sim from old phone plus a work use eSIM. Both work nicely together and configuration is as easy or hard as you make it for yourself for calls, data etc.

Overall, especially for the money which puts this into high-mid tier pricing for a high end non folding phone extremely happy with my Moto.
