About the Author

Andreas Marks studierte ostasiatische Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Bonn und wurde an der Universität Leiden mit einer Dissertation in Japanologie zu Schauspielerdrucken des 19. Jahrhunderts promoviert. Von 2008 bis 2013 war Marks Direktor und Chefkurator des Clark Center for Japanese Art im kalifornischen Hanford. Seit 2013 ist er Mary Griggs Burke Curator of Japanese and Korean Art sowie Direktor des Clark Center for Japanese Art am Minneapolis Institute of Art.

    Dr. Andreas Marks is the ​Mary Griggs Burke Curator of Japanese and Korean Art and Director of the Clark Center at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. From 2008 to 2013 he was the Director and Chief Curator of the Clark Center for Japanese Art and Culture in California. He has a master's degree in East Asian Art History from the University of Bonn, and a Ph.D. from Leiden University in the Netherlands. The author of over 20 books, he is the recipient of the International Fine Print Dealers Association book award in 2018 and 2022. In 2024, he received the commendation of Japan's Foreign Minister for the promotion of Japanese art and culture.

    This is really something special. I ordered hoping that it would at least have full-page plates of the works....and it most certainly has that. But what I didn't appreciate online is how beautiful this book is. It comes packaged in a sturdy folder with authentic wooden pegs keeping it closed. It is also huge! Each plate is nearly A3 size! And is all printed on a slightly textured paper which evokes the original quality of the prints. Really stunning object.

    In addition to the 46 views of Mount Fuji, the book also has an introductory section with some additional prints, and at the end it shows some of the alternative versions of the prints, with different colours and quality, which was very interesting. Very very pleased with this purchase!
