Loved the series of quilts Jess Johnson (@flesh_dozer) creates with her mother Cynthia Johnson for her new show at @jackhanleygallery (this one is “Woom Ansible,” 2019). I can’t tell whether this cat’s creepily human facial expression is saying “the biblical narrative in which I’m appearing is patriarchal propaganda” or “one day I will appear on a mood board belonging to a production designer working on a film about cats who dance and talk like humans, and it will be a travesty.” Either way, not a happy cat. Last chance to see the fascinating show on Lincoln Kirstein, who played an important role in MoMA’s early years and advocated for an alternative (and in many ways more inclusive) history of modernism.
