Girls into Coding(GIC)  is a not-for-profit organisation, a Community Interest Company (CIC). We are a mother(Helene) and daughter(Avye, 16) run social enterprise. GIC provides learning opportunities for girls between the ages of 10 and 14. We’ve created workshops and education events to immerse young people in a range of STEM activities. STEM is an educational programme developed to prepare young students for further education in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM also aims to encourage inquiring minds, logical reasoning, and collaboration skills.We are driven to create opportunities to engage girls to consider STEM education and careers through hands-on workshops and events.

<h2>IN-PERSON Girls into Coding! </h2><h2>At SLAMCORE</h2>GIRLS! THE TECH COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU! THIS EVENT IS ORGANISED ESPECIALLY FOR YOU! COME AND JOIN US AND GET INVOLVED!I am delighted to invite you to our IN-PERSON &quot;Girls Into Coding &quot; event! It&#x27;s a free event. Choose 1 of 5 exciting workshops. There will also be lightning talks to inspire &amp; encourage girls aged 10 -14 to get involved in tech. Each participant can only book one workshop because they will run simultaneously.You will be able to explore coding activities, robotics, 3D printing/design, 3D VR, electronics, and physical computing using the Raspberry Pi Pico, The Raspberry Pi Zero, The Micro: bit, and the Adafruit Circuit Playground Express. This is a fantastic opportunity to use Python, Micropython (text-based language), and Microsoft Makecode, while getting some hands-on making time. PLEASE READ CAREFULLYIF YOU BOOK MORE THAN ONE TICKET PER PARTICIPANT, YOUR BOOKING WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED.THE 5 WORKSHOPS BELOW WILL RUN SIMULTANEOUSLY - THEREFORE EACH PARTICIPANT SHOULD ONLY BOOK ONE WORKSHOP. WORKSHOPS:Workshop #1: The Tilting Maze Ptoinkk! Design and build your own tilting maze game. Code up trigger switches, coloured lights, scores, timers, and sounds. Then play! It&#x27;s labyrinth meets pinball meets microbit meets coding!Experience: Beginners are welcome!  Workshop #2: Embedding RoboticsUse sensors &amp; code to monitor environmental data and activate motors, lights &amp; sound. The girls will use a range of electronic components, the Microbit and Makecode to bring this project to life.Workshop #3: Build a hand-held camera. We&#x27;ll put together a Raspberry Pi, mini-screen, and a few buttons. Add a camera module. We&#x27;ll program your camera to take pictures and review images. Add enhanced features, like time-lapse!Workshop #4: Build a virtual environment &amp; explore with your own built VR set!Build a virtual environment using CoSpaces that can be explored with a VR headset.You will build the environment which will be a maze and have objects that can be interacted with along the way. This will be achieved using the range of features in CoSpaces and coding blocks called CoBlocks to give objects characteristics.Experience:Basic working knowledge of block-based code would be beneficial but beginners are welcome! They will be guided by instruction sheets and a live tutorial.Material needed: A mobile phoneWorkshop#5: Introduction to 3D Design, 3D Scanning &amp; 3D PrintingA hands-on workshop using 3D design software. The main focus will be on establishing the basic skills needed for 3D modeling. Please bring your own storage device (USB, SD card, or portable hard-drive) to save your work.LIGHTNING TALKS: -﻿ Habs Kim - Choosing a STEM career doesn&#x27;t mean sacrificing creativity Habs is a sculptor turned programmer and is currently an Engineering Lead at Trinny London - an E-commerce beauty company. She got into coding through electronics and building digital installations. She’s since worked at four fast paced start-ups, focusing on frontend development. Her enjoyment has come from data driven A/B testing and initiatives to increase conversion for B2C platforms.In her current role, she leads a team of engineers that manages all forward facing systems (such as the E-commerce site). She is passionate about D&amp;I and always brings her own experience of being a second generation immigrant and from a minority, to mentor and educate others. Habs has given multiple talks at meet ups and looks to promote the importance of creativity in STEM roles. She is always open to mentoring new programmers so please do reach out.-﻿ Evelina Wahlstrom - Follow your curiosity: My journey from Science to TechBorn in the south of Sweden, Evelina is now a London-based girl who works as a Software Engineer at loveholidays, a travel tech company. She’d say that she is a curious person at heart, curious of people and of knowledge. Coming from a family of nurses and doctors, she always saw herself working in the medical or science field as she saw the impact her family had.In 2018, while finishing her bachelor&#x27;s degree in Molecular Biology, on her way to start a master it all came over her. She didn’t enjoy being in the lab as much as she thought Ishe would. She loved (and still loves!) science but something inside her knew it wasn’t right for her. She went solo-travelling, during which Ishe really started to think about what career path would be a good fit. She&#x27;d tried coding before and after researching the possibilities she decided to apply for an intense coding bootcamp to change her career. 3+ years into her first engineering job, she love the creativity of it, the problem solving and the possibility to work in any industry.TERMS OF PARTICIPATION:Each participant can only choose one workshop. Each workshop lasts approximately 2 hoursTickets are limited to 2 maximum per family // Please register the participant only, parents do not need to register.Girls must be between 10 and 14 years old.If you book a place but are unable to attend, please inform us as soon as possible so we can reallocate the place to someone on our waiting list.OTHER INFO:Computers will be on site.
