Community Awareness

Social Media Awareness

  • ~1 hour a week
  • Raise awareness through social media by following AFTD channels and reposting or sharing your FTD story

Provider Outreach

  • ~1.5 hour training + 1 hour a month
  • Share AFTD curated packets with healthcare professionals and care providers in your local community

Information Table

  • ~2 hours set up + time of event
  • Raise awareness by representing AFTD at conferences and other community events

Meet & Greets

  • ~6 hours to set up and run
  • Plan and facilitate an informal gathering (in person or virtual) to connect people affected by FTD with each other and AFTD resources

Presentations

  • ~1.5 hour training + time of presentation itself
  • Raise awareness through presentations of AFTD curated PowerPoint slide decks to general audiences such as local service clubs (Rotary, Lions, etc.)
Advocacy

Policy

  • Time commitment varies
  • Encourage elected officials to support policies and legislation benefiting those impacted by FTD.

Proclamations & Resolutions

  • Help increase awareness of FTD in your state by requesting a state FTD Awareness Week proclamation or a State FTD Awareness Week resolution

Research

Insights to FTD Researchers

  • On an as-needed basis
  • Your FTD experience informs scientists about the diverse values, priorities, and concerns of people impacted by FTD to ensure research studies are aligned with the needs of our community (e.g. sitting on focus groups, providing feedback on research materials)
Leadership Opportunities

These roles are for individuals who already have had some volunteer experience with AFTD: please let us know now if you’re interested in exploring!


AFTD Ambassador

  • ~6 hours a month and annual in-person Summit
  • Represent AFTD in your state through networking, outreach, speaking engagements and attending events on AFTD’s behalf

Support Group Facilitators

  • ~5 hours per month, 2-year commitment required
  • Organize and facilitate a peer-based, caregiver support group (professional experience not required and facilitator training provided)

Volunteer Orientation Facilitators

  • ~2 hours per quarter, training provided
  • Present to our amazing new volunteers what AFTD is all about, how volunteers are making a difference and orientate them to the mission
Administrative Help

Book Review Volunteer: Review submitted books and manuscripts to help AFTD identify valuable resources for the FTD community.

Donor Appreciation Volunteer: Write personalized thank-you notes to recognize and appreciate AFTD donors whose generosity advances our mission and supports families affected by FTD.

  1. Attend an Information Session
    Sign up here for a live, volunteer-led session (roughly 60 minutes) to learn more about AFTD and the various volunteer opportunities available – and meet others affected by FTD.
  2. Submit a Volunteer Application
    If you decide to move forward after the session, complete the online volunteer application form, which would have been emailed to you.
  3. Connect with a Volunteer Engagement Coordinator
    An AFTD Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will reach out within one business day to schedule a Zoom or phone meeting to finalize your application and provide training and next steps.
