The time has come for West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West class of 2023 safety Ben Minich to announce his commitment. The 5-11, 185-pounder has over 20 offers to his name, but he knows where he wants to play his college ball.
On Friday, Aug. 5 at 6 pm ET, Minich will make his pledge live on the 247Sports YouTube page.
The 247Sports four-star recruit, who is ranked as the No. 24 safety in America and No. 6 talent in Ohio, will choose from five finalist — Cincinnati, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Stanford. Ahead of his decision, he shared some thoughts about each program with 247Sports.
On Cincinnati: “Being the hometown hero is hard to pass up on. Playing for your city and coming off the seasons they have been having are all influencing my decision.”
On Kentucky: “Another power house school in the SEC. I really like Coach Murrow and Coach Stoops. They are great people and have been consistently putting players in the league.”
On Notre Dame: “I really enjoyed spending time Coach O’Leary and Coach Freeman. They brought a lot of positive energy and are great people. It would be tough to miss out on Playing on National TV every week and playing with the best of the best. Along with The elite football and high academics.”
On Oklahoma: “Moving to the SEC and playing some of the toughest competition every week can develop me to be the best player I can be. I have built a great relationship with coach Hall and coach Venables.”
On Stanford: “I am very high on academics and they have some of the best in country. Put that together with a great staff and a great football program Stanford has a lot to offer for me.”
As of now, Notre Dame is the perceived favorite per the 247Sports Crystal Ball. There are three predictions in and they all have Minich landing in South Bend with the Fighting Irish.
247Sports Scouting Report: Good athlete who has played both ways in high school as a wide receiver and safety, and has a track background which includes 100-meter dash times as fast as 10.47. Has good change of direction and short-area quickness along with that long speed. Good ball skills from playing offense. Willing tackler who can still get stronger and add some bulk in order to add more pop as a hitter. Between his athleticism and football I.Q., he is a safe bet to be a college starter and will have a chance to play beyond college.
Per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Minich is a three-star receipt listed as the No. 51 safety in the country and No. 18 talent in Ohio.
