Our northern highways are our lifelines, used daily for medical care, work,
school, and community activities, yet they remain shared with thousands of commercial trucks, creating safety risks for all. Trains and buses used to share the task of moving goods and people distributing the traffic.
The Ford government continues to downplay the severity of the
situation, claiming that Ontario’s highways are among the safest in North America. Investigative reports and lived experiences from Northern residents tell a different story. Poorly trained commercial drivers and the companies that put them on the road are putting lives at risk. The time for action is now.
What can we do? First, we, as citizens in the north, amplify the message our Ontario NDP representatives have been taking to Queen's Park. Sign below to "Add Your Name" to the list of concerned voters. Second, we vote in a government that listens to the north. Our Northern ONDP Team has always been strong, but we need to be in government to enact the legislation needed to ensure driver standards are maintained, trucks are inspected appropriately, private profit is taken out of critical services on the road such as snowplowing, and that the investment in twinning our northern highways is finally part of the plan.
