Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
★★★½ Watched

Unsurprisingly a new instalment of the Peaky Blinders world is very well done, excellently written, perfectly acted and beautifully delivered. It doesn’t hit the heights that the series does but that is always a major ask when a whole story is condensed into a film. Not sure if I would rewatch the film like I do with the series but it delivers a nice bow to wrap up Tommy Shelby’s story.

2001: A Space Odyssey
★★★ Watched

I can appreciate the impact of this film and you can see the way it has inspired so many films since, truly moving the needle for what cinema can be. The story is unique and interesting, with one of the greatest scores of all time. The visuals are also outstanding for its time. However I can’t pretend that I wasn’t struggling to stay fully engaged given the style of the film and I did find elements difficult to truly understand and follow.

Dark, graphic and very intense, this film gets off to a strong start and its simple story and delivery make for a good film that locks you in. Certain aspects do seem far fetched and the effects leave a lot to be desired but the story is strong enough to make this ok and Neil Maskell delivers an excellent performance. This would probably have revived 3.5/4 stars from me until the ending which delivers a massive twist and countless unanswered…
