Eliminating homelessness and reducing poverty where we serve, since 1984.

About us

At The Mustard Seed, our mission is to alleviate poverty and homelessness through acceptance, empowerment and practical solutions. We provide a safe and supportive haven where people can have their physical needs met, and also begin to heal and grow mentally, emotionally and spiritually. We do what we do because there are many people in great need of support, compassion and assistance in their desire for a better life, and we believe we have a calling to help those in need. How do we do it? We support the whole person; physically, through basic needs like food, shelter and clothing; emotionally, through counselling and relationships; financially, through income support programs (employment and government); and spiritually, through counselling and prayer support.

  • One of the most important things to us as an organization is connecting with our community. This means more than just caring for our vulnerable community - we also work to ensure the neighbourhoods we serve in are connected and comfortable with the work we're doing. In Edmonton, we recently hosted a community BBQ at our Central Shelter, welcoming over 200 people to enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers. The event brought together neighbours from across the community to share a meal, connect with one another, and foster a stronger sense of belonging. Seeing folks accessing our services mingling with other members of our community, including business owners and local families, was absolutely beautiful. It's a strong reminder that we're all human at the end of the day, no matter our differences. 💛 #Edmonton #HopeGrowsHere

🤠 Yahoo! What an incredible day at The Mustard Seed Calgary! We hosted our 17th Annual Stampede BBQ, and to say it was a success would be an understatement. Together, we served over 2,800 delicious meals to our amazing community! 🍔✨ A huge shoutout to the incredible Communications and Marketing team. Your hard work, creativity, and dedication behind the scenes made this event seamlessly come to life. Thank you for telling our story and bringing everyone together! The energy was electric, thanks to the entertainment by 176 Keys, creative face painting, Butterfield Acres petting zoo and the legendary BBQ beef on a bun, masterfully prepared by our very own Chef Geraldo. Did you know that people experiencing homelessness can walk an average of 5-15 miles a day, in search of food, shelter and other resources? For a lot of us, we have a goal of hitting 10k steps every day. Isn't it crazy that that's on the low end of 5-15 miles?! I'm committing to walking every day, until August 31st, alongside The Mustard Seed for their 5 to 15 challenge, and I would really love for you to join me! My goal is to raise $500 for our neighbours experiencing homelessness and poverty. Why 5 to 15? Not only is it the average # of miles people may walk a day, but it also costs about $5 to provide a meal to someone in need, or $15 for a full day of meals! $500 = 100 meals. So walk with me this summer, or bike or run, or tell 15 people you love them! Either way, it would be great to have you on the team 💛 The Walkie Talkies https://lnkd.in/gYZ-6uhT

  • For 24 years, the Ted Green Memorial Golf Tournament has been about far more than golf. It has been about hope. Because of the incredible generosity of our sponsors, donors, golfers, volunteers, and community partners, this tournament has raised more than $2.1 million to support life-changing programs at The Mustard Seed in Edmonton. Every drive down the fairway, every sponsorship, every raffle ticket, and every donation has helped create lasting impact for individuals experiencing poverty, homelessness, and complex barriers. Over the years, tournament proceeds have helped fund critical initiatives including: 💛Supporting individuals as they move from emergency shelter into permanent housing. 💛Providing wraparound supports within our supportive housing communities, helping residents build stability, connection, and independence. 💛Funding vital mental health and recovery counselling services, ensuring people have access to the care and support they need on their journey toward wellness. 💛Expanding food security programs at a time when demand continues to rise. In 2025 alone, The Mustard Seed served more than 200,000 meals in Edmonton—an extraordinary milestone that reflects both the growing need in our community and the compassion of those who step forward to help. While the tournament is named in honour of Ted Green, its legacy belongs to every person who has chosen to invest in the lives of others over the past 24 years. To our sponsors, donors, golfers, volunteers, staff, and supporters: thank you. Thank you for showing up year after year. Thank you for believing that everyone deserves a place to call home, access to nutritious food, and the support needed to build a brighter future. The impact of this tournament can be measured in dollars raised, but its true legacy is found in lives changed, hope restored, and futures rewritten. Here’s to 24 years of changing lives—and to the many more still to come. “Together, we’re proving that when a community comes together around a common purpose, extraordinary things happen.” #Edmonton #HopeGrowsHere Worley Habitat Studio Certified Group Myshak Group of Companies Stahl Peterbilt Inc Victory Equipment Rentals InsureLine Empire Comco Pipe & Supply Company FIRTH Engineering Ltd.
