STOCK PHRASES SUCH AS “ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL” HELPS PROPEL THE SCHOOL CHOICE MOVEMENT

The school choice movement is laced with stock phrases. One that is quite frequently used is—“one size does not fit all.” Duh! This overworked, tired, stale, phrase, when used by the choice enthusiasts, is meant to suggest that there are no choices in the public common school system and/or that a plethora of private school entities are required.

Each student is unique, but is quite similar to other students in most respects. If total emphasis is put on the uniqueness of individual students, one could build a case for a different school for each student. That, of course, would be absurd. The public common school has a record of meeting the needs of individuals and has many more choices within it than the typical charter or voucher school.
