Among my favorite “radical centrists” is the British commentator Carl Benjamin, better known as Sargon of Akkad. He’s enjoyable to listen to, not merely for the easy sound of his voice and his superior accent, but for his uncompromising honesty, even when he is wrong.

Back in March of last year, he published a video about the Alt-Right, and his summary was that it was fundamentally an idea space, protected from the policing of progressive gate-keepers.

There’s an old-school form of libertarianism that draws from the work of figures like Ludwig van Beethoven, Selma Hayek, and RuPaul (sorry, I mean to say Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, and Ron Paul). This form of libertarianism works from a reasonably comprehensive picture of what it is to be a human being. Rather than thoroughly replacing homo sapiens with homo economicus, it simply focuses on addressing itself to the economic realm of life; and it proposes that people out to support a strongly libertarian order because such is in their best practical interests.  (more…)

Darkest Hour is the second film released this year on Churchill and the latest in an ever-growing list of Churchill-related films and television shows (around two dozen over the past decade). Like its predecessors, Darkest Hour rehashes treacly warmed-over clichés about its subject and glosses over the sordid truth about this murderous psychopath.

Jews in the film industry love Churchill because he serves as a real-life example of the “superhero who saves the world from Nazi villains” trope (more…)

Charles Manson was a scapegoat for the sixties counter-culture and he became a false Messiah for the seventies, eighties, nineties, and naughties counter-cultures. His real meaning can only be discerned by understanding these two equally imaginary poles of social function that he was compelled to occupy during his decades of imprisonment. The fact that Manson himself was keenly aware of this process of projection and that he actively sought to manipulate it does not attest to evidence of demonic powers but neither does it attest to the machinations of a victimized magus. Earlier this month President Trump instructed the National Archives to release hundreds of previously-sealed documents which pertained to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Included among these documents were two FBI files which, curiously enough, have little to do with the Kennedy assassination but could have great bearing on the current struggles of the Dissident Right. Deadline: the end of Giving Tuesday

Since our last fundraiser update, Counter-Currents has received a $2,000 matching grant offer from Fenek Solère, the author of Rising, who gave as his reason, “Counter-Currents is one of Our People’s key strategic assets in the ongoing Culture War.” In addition, we received 26 donations, including seven all-important pledges of monthly support. That puts Counter-Currents more than 80% of the way to recovering the monthly pledge income lost when PayPal used the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville as an excuse to cancel our account. A mother in the U.K. (Sarah Hall of Newcastle) recently achieved some notoriety when several news outlets reported that she had called for the story of “Sleeping Beauty” to be banned from schools. Sleeping Beauty, you may recall, does not give Prince Charming permission to kiss her. She is, after all, asleep. Mrs. Hall states: “While we are still seeing narratives like this in school, we are never going to change ingrained attitudes to sexual behavior. In today’s society, it isn’t appropriate.”  (more…)

Watchmen is the greatest superhero movie of all time, and when it was released, its director Zack Snyder was poised to follow Christopher Nolan into the first rank of directors working today. But instead, he has directed an ever worsening series of turkeys: Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and now Justice League, which is one of the worst movies I have ever seen: derivative, dumb, and dull. An assault on the senses and an insult to the intellect. It is also one of the most expensive movies ever made, costing an astonishing $300 million. It is really rather amazing that a director of Snyder’s proven talent, with a solid cast and a $300 million budget, could not have turned in a better movie. Clearly, there’s a lot of rot and a lot of ruin still left in Hollywood, and the sex scandals are just the beginning.  (more…)
