Stroke Survivor Community Events UK
Our Community Events are relaxed, in-person gatherings for working-age stroke survivors.
They’re designed to create space for connection, conversation, and shared understanding. These events are about meeting others who understand life after stroke, finding out what support is available, and spending time in a welcoming, supportive environment.
At each event, you can expect a mix of informal conversation, opportunities to hear from Different Strokes staff and volunteers, and time to connect with others at your own pace. Whether you’re newly affected by stroke or many years on, you’re welcome to come along, listen, ask questions, or simply be present.
These stroke survivor community events UK are also a chance to learn more about Different Strokes including our peer support, local groups, online services, and ways to stay connected beyond the day itself.
Every Community Event is shaped by the people who attend. You don’t need to prepare anything or share your story unless you want to. Come as you are and stay for as long as you feel comfortable.

Guest speaker:
Lisa had an ischemic stroke at the age of 44 in 2017. which was initially dismissed as a migraine. Since then, Lisa has faced numerous challenges including chronic pain, neuro fatigue and a later diagnosis of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Despite these setbacks, Lisa has remained focused on moving forward, learning to adapt and finding ways to stay positive.
Lisa was the first member of the Different Strokes Whitstable group in August 2022, and the group played a huge part in her recovery. Recognising the value in connecting with others, Lisa was inspired to start the Different Strokes Ashford Kent Group in January 2025.
Hear Lisa talk about her experiences of recovery, resilience and rebuilding her confidence post stroke. Through determination and the support of others, Lisa has turned her experiences into something positive and now leads the Ashford Kent group, offering support and activities for fellow stroke survivors.
Activity:
There will be the opportunity to take part in a group exercise session. Further details to follow.
