About our Partner
The museum’s mission is to collect, preserve, and share Japanese American art, history, and culture. Through education, they broaden their relevance and aid San Jose in fostering a more culturally diverse community.
Project Description
Our project used digital storytelling tools to facilitate conversations among
members of San Jose’s Japantown, addressing the intergenerational and multicultural divides. Our team taught community members to use the JS Knightlab Digital Timeline and Lucidspark Virtual Whiteboard. Through two workshops, we sparked conversations about personal and collective histories and encouraged community members to get involved in the preservation of Japantown’s history and culture.
Project Deliverables
We held two Impactathon workshops. Our first workshop focused on
community building, where we created a collaborative timeline and asked three questions that
sparked conversations about the community’s collective history and future. Our second workshop
was centered on teaching our tech tools: JS Knightlab Digital Timeline and Lucidspark Virtual
Whiteboard. To sustain our efforts, we created video tutorials so participants could use these
tools independently for their personal projects and community events.
