About Deathrock

Deathrock (alternatively named Horror rock) is a dark and theatrical subgenre of punk rock that emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s, primarily in Los Angeles. Blending the raw energy of punk with horror-inspired imagery and gothic atmospheres, deathrock features eerie guitar tones, driving basslines, tribal or dramatic drumming, and haunting vocals. Lyrics often explore themes of death, horror, existential dread, and the supernatural. Early bands such as Christian Death and 45 Grave helped define the sound and aesthetic, which later became closely connected to the broader gothic rock and goth subculture.
