About Dub
Dub is one of the oldest genres of electronic music and has its origins in Jamaica, growing from remixes of reggae tracks.
1960’s producers, AKA “originators”, created alternate versions of existing tracks, isolating the drum and bass parts, as well as adding effects such as a heavy echo. See, for example, the work of Lee “Scratch” Perry.
Today, dub does not necessarily use dubs from existing songs, but retains its roots in reggae and electronic music. Sound systems are usually very community oriented, but there are also those that have broken into the mainstream. Fat Freddy’s Drop, for example, found great commercial success with singles such as “Ernie”.

Genres relating to dub include reggae, dancehall, R&B, drum and bass, and dubstep.
