About Roots Rock

Roots Rock is a genre of Rock that relies heavily on influences from Rock’s origins in genres like Folk, Blues, and Country. It’s similar to Rockabilly and Americana.

The genre has its origins in 1966, with Bob Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde, which was much more simple and close to rock tradition of the time than the then-rising Psychedelic Rock. The rising Blues Rock of the 60s and 70s had influence on Roots Rock and helped boost its popularity.

In addition to Blues Rock, periods of popularity for Southern Rock, Country Rock, Swamp Rock, and Heartlands Rock also shaped and brought attention to Roots Rock.
