Speedcore is a sub-genre of hardcore electronic music, identifiable by its extremely high tempo. Although the genre’s tempo originally started around 250 beats per minute, some tracks may exceed even 1000. Tracks over 1000 BPM are called extratone, which is known to be the world’s highest tempo music genre.

Speedcore tracks often contain elements of gabber, with kicks overdriven to the point of becoming square waves, an audio waveform which appears in a waveform editor as a series of rectangles alternating up and down. In many speedcore tracks, the kicks are played in eighth or 16th notes, giving them rapidity. Multiple snare drums are played per second.
