Philips 3300 worth buying
Top reviews from Canada

BEST THING I HAVE BOUGHT!
Reviewed in Canada on May 25, 2026I’m a huge coffee drinker, so I spent a long time deciding which coffee machine to buy. I watched countless reviews and videos trying to find something affordable, reliable, and genuinely good quality.
I read many reviews about Philips machines, especially the newer models, and honestly, a lot of the comments weren’t very promising. What really stood out to me, though, was how many people consistently mentioned that the Philips 3300 and 3200 series were among the best machines Philips has made.
After using this machine myself, I completely understand why.
This coffee machine has honestly been a game changer for me. It’s quiet, convenient, fast, and offers a great variety of drink options.
What I also love is how much the coffee quality depends on the beans you choose. I picked an Italian coffee bean blend, and this machine produces rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious coffee every single time.
Cleaning and maintenance are also surprisingly easy. Philips provides very clear instructions and helpful videos on YouTube showing you exactly how to maintain the machine and which cleaning products to use, which makes the whole process effortless!
Honestly, I don’t regret buying this machine at all. It’s convenient, reliable, and consistently makes amazing coffee.
I’m genuinely very happy with this product and would ABSOLUTELY recommend it to anyone looking for a great coffee machine.

More than expected
Reviewed in Canada on November 10, 2023We bought this to replace the numerous Keurig machines we've owned over the last decade or so. The logic was, we would save money not buying k-cups after the initial expense (about 8 months, according to our calculations). That may still hold true, but...
The coffee experience is phenomenal.
We are experiencing better quality coffee and the freshness is noticable. The machine does require a bit more maintenance (cleaning) than I expected, but it's worth it. You can taste the difference after you've done a good clean.
The foamed milk is really nice. We don't always have it set up, but when we do, it so easy to make frothy drinks.
Working from home, during the day we will fill the hopper with good quality beans (on sale, of course) and at night we use the bypass for decafinated ground coffee. Perfect combination.
The milk container (LatteGo thingy) can be removed for easy cleaning and to access hot water for tea.
It's noisy. But... Add a soundtrack of cups clinking and foreign chatter, and you're whisked away to a Cafe in Florence. Ahhhh.
I'm not a coffee nut. I'll drink it black if I don't feel bothered to walk to the fridge for milk. The closest I get to being a coffee snob is I kinda like the stronger Lavazza brands because they taste nice to me. But, I drink a lot of it - 10+ cups a day (is that safe?). This machine makes it quick and tasty, with a sense of occasion.
Is it worth the maintenance and cleaning? Sure. It's not too time consuming or difficult.
I calculated that we would spend $3000 in k-cups per year (lots of coffee). At about $1000 for the machine plus the filters (they last about 1-2 months for us), cleaning tablets, and grease (for moving parts)... and 2lb bag of coffee beans every 1-2 weeks, we are actually saving money in the long run.
First world problem: filling up the water container - not sure how many cups it holds, but it seems like we fill it a lot (make sure it filled before bed, that way you're not annoyed first thing in the morning).
I did make sure I got this model (5400) vs the others (3000, 4000 series). Honesty, I can't remember why but I may have something to do with the LatteGo system and color display. Either way, we're happy with this model.
Well worth the investment. Better coffee. Better for the environment (no k-cups). Day dreams of exotic places. And, saving money (maybe, I'm too caffeinated to check).

Flimsy and overpriced, makes awful coffee
Reviewed in Canada on February 25, 2024I purchased this machine because my wife likes milk based drinks , whereas i prefer espressos but as most reviews mention the flavor of the espresso brew is a 4/10.
The $150 manual Delonghi machine in my shop makes a better espresso than this $1000 Philips item ...
I've owned over half a dozen high end automatic espresso machines in the last 20 years and this one is at most a mid range , although expensive unit.I got this one over the 4300 model because the price difference wasn't that much and it does have a few more options. The water drain tray screen is flimsy and it doesn't fit well over the tray , it doesn't stay on and keeps popping out of place. If your preference is espressos , i suggest getting a Delonghi unit which is more expensive but will produce better coffee. This replaces a Saeco Royal Professional machine which probably weighs double this mostly plastic Philips machine.Read all the online reviews before making your final decision ... in my case the similar but better Delonghi machine was $700 dollars more so i will give this one a try.
On another note , the next day after i purchased this item Amazon offered a $100 discount coupon on the site , for which Amazon customer service told me if i wanted the discount i had to return the item i purchased and reorder another one and apply the discount to my new purchase ... go figure ???
*** Edit ***
After using this machine for two months and over one hundred brews , if you're an espresso drinker move on to something better, this Philips 5400 is absolute garbage and a waste of $1000 dollars.
Go on the Philips Latte Go Facebook website and you will see how many real world complaints there are regarding this machine ... not recommended , a total waste of $1000 and i'm going to purchase a better machine, not sure what i'm going to do with this $1000 paper weight ...
*** Ok , so after almost one year with this machine, i finally had enough and bought a Breville Barista Express for half the price , this Philips has to be my worst choice ever as far as espresso machines go, sure it has a lot of bells and whistles but it produces awful coffees as well as more foam than froth …
It’s going up on Marketplace and hopefully i can recoup at least half of the $1230 dollars i wasted.I’ll say jt again, if you like espressos, stay far away from this machine !
It is more like barely a jack of all trades and definitely a master of none …

Philips 3300 worth buying
Reviewed in Canada on December 6, 2025In short, this coffee machine has exceeded my expectations.
I deliberately waited some time to try different drinks, test various coffee beans to find the optimal ones, and finally write a less emotional and more objective review.
The advantages of the Philips 3300 that matter most to me:
• It’s a Fully Automatic Espresso Machine, meaning the brewing process takes just 2 clicks and less than a minute.
• Since I enjoy lattes, cappuccinos, and various mixed drinks, having a milk frother is essential. The LatteGo Milk System froths milk very well. I tried milk from different brands and with different fat content – all turned out very well.
• The coffee tastes smooth and aromatic (of course, much depends on the beans. I tried 100% Arabica medium roast and 100% Arabica strong roast – both types produce great flavor). I also use an additional water filter before filling the tank, although the machine has its own built-in filter.
• The machine is super easy to clean and intuitive to maintain — the milk frother detaches and rinses under water effortlessly, and the coffee grounds container and water tank are also quick and simple to service. This saves me a lot of time.
• Regarding noise – before purchasing, I read some comments claiming the machine is loud, which made me look for video reviews with decibel measurements. It turned out that the Philips 3300 is actually significantly quieter than similar models and not noisy at all. Obviously, the grinding process is mechanical, so some sound is naturally produced, and the same goes for frothing milk at up to 15 bars of pressure. However, it is much quieter than I expected and doesn’t bother me at all. Compared to its competitors in the same price range, this model is noticeably quieter (based on my observations and comparisons).
• The design is also very appealing – I like the digital menu, the classic style and compact in size.
I also use like to create my own mixes and add rum or liqueur for a personalized taste.
As for reliability – I haven’t had the machine long enough to test its long-term durability, but everything works properly so far, and I’m satisfied. I hope it stays that way.
Disadvantages: So far, I don’t have any.
I had been considering switching to the Philips 3300 for several years, and I’m very pleased with the experience. In my opinion, the machine is worth the price if you appreciate good-tasting coffee and don’t plan on buying a professional machine for home use. In my opinion, it’s the optimal choice in terms of price, quality, functionality, and design.

Almost, but not quite
Reviewed in Canada on October 2, 2025Taste of the coffee 9 out of 10
Temperature 6 out of 10
Convenience 10 out of 10
Ease of cleaning 10 out of 10
Size of lattes 6 out of 10
Milk froth 8 out of 10
Noise level 4 out of 10
If you like your coffee piping hot like I do, you'll need to microwave it afterwards if it is a latte. Temperature is more than hot enough for an espresso or regular coffee. I suspect it is directly related to the milk component frothing. Increasing the temperature setting in the unit doesn't seem to make a difference. Temperature also improves as you make more coffees, but that's not practical.
My other beef is the size of the drinks. If you like your coffee small to medium, this unit will work for you. If you're someone who orders a grande or venti latte, you have to make two lattes to fill up a grande. Not the end of the world, but a bit inconvenient. The milk container isn't large enough to make a large coffee and the unit does not output large drinks.
My comparison is to $150 Oster espresso maker I have, which makes piping hot lattes and you can fill a large thermos mug quite easily. On the flip side, the coffee from this machine from ground beans, is quite superior in taste.
I don't have any issues with the milk frothing. I saw some people complaining about the froth, but it's creamy and you can get plenty of it if you adjust the setting.
As for the noise level, this machine is surprisingly quiet. The grinder is quiet. Compared to my previous espresso maker it's infinitely quieter. I certainly wouldn't say it's whisper quiet, but it's probably about as quiet as you can get for this type of espresso machine.
All in all for the price, I wish the latte drinks were hotter and you could make larger coffees, but it's not the end of the world.
Also, make sure you're bean grinder is set properly otherwise your pucks won't come out firm. Mine is set to 4. Took some experimenting to get that set correctly.
7 out of 10 overall. For the price, you can't go wrong.
------------
After a week or so of ownership a quick update. Coffee tastes great, it's really good and creamy. The crema is not as good of course as a high-end machine for $2,000, but you're not paying that kind of money so I don't see that as an issue. Convenience is huge. It's a real time saver and extremely easy to empty the coffee grounds and excess water. Once you've adjusted the size of the latte to the maximum, you can essentially make two in a row to get a venti. You still have to microwave at least the first cup for 30 seconds to get it piping hot, but that's not the end of the world. I would take this any day over the previous espresso maker I had just because of the taste of the coffee and the convenience.

Phillips 5500 Coffee Espresso Machine
Reviewed in Canada on May 12, 2025After four broken Keurigs, I was ready for a change—and I’m so glad I made the switch to the Philips 5500 Espresso Machine.
There’s definitely a bit of a learning curve with this machine, especially if you’re used to the simplicity of a pod system. I had to experiment with different beans and settings, and I quickly learned that oily (shiny) beans can clog the grinder—something I never had to think about with Keurig.
I watched a lot of YouTube videos and reached out to customer service a couple of times (who were very helpful), and that made a big difference. After trying a few different types of coffee beans, I’ve finally found a setup I love.
Now that I’ve gotten the hang of it, the quality of the espresso and the overall coffee experience is miles ahead of what I was getting from my old machine. It takes a little effort at first, but it’s well worth it if you want to enjoy fresh, great-tasting coffee every day.
My favorite features so far:
The built-in grinder makes fresh coffee effortless.
Easy-to-use milk frother for lattes and cappuccinos.
Customizable settings let me fine-tune my brew just the way I like it.
Maintenance is straightforward once you know what to expect.

Great if you aren't super picky and just want a good coffee right away
Reviewed in Canada on January 6, 2026I've been using this multiple times per day for more than a month and am super happy with it. When doing my research I was having a hard time deciding between a super automatic or more traditional espresso machine.
This machine is really amazing, super easy to use, all I have to do is press a few buttons and walk away while it does it's thing.
I get why someone who is more of an espresso snob would prefer something with more adjustments but for us this has been perfect. The milk steaming option works great, it's not quite the level of a steaming wand but it's good enough for at home and being able to stick the very simple steaming container in the dishwasher is way better for us than trying to get a wand clean. I also appreciate the water filter which is supposed to make descaling a much less frequent chore
Would recommend this for anyone that likes iced/hot lattes, isn't super picky about being able to make minor adjustments, and who just wants a coffee right away.

Intuitive, easy to use but could make cleaning somewhat difficult
Reviewed in Canada on May 5, 2023Initial review:
Had brewed for more than 20+ cups without any sign of improvement: the coffee pucks are mostly *very* loose and watery with water also in the ground container; making the cleaning difficult and messy.
(I don't recall my old automatic machines having this issue)
had tried different settings including grind size, water amount, coffee / bean amount but to no avail.
Philips website says: "The first brewed cups can be watery as the Philips adapting system is still adjusting. After brewing five to seven cups of coffee the consistency will be adjusted."
but still, I'm not seeing any sign of improvement after brewing these many cups of coffee + running cleaning cycles + cleaning the brew group + trying to brew again, etc.
Have checked on YouTube, at least some other users had the same issue; possibly due to O-rings not being lubricated enough or something. But come on, mine is a new machine, and the Brew Group does have lube applied and O-rings look fine.
Though one main positive about this machine is that it has a very intuitive / user-friendly design: the menu selection is easy to use and follow along with the on screen instructions.
Will give it some more tries before the return window...
FYI:
As I was researching on how to fix this machine making a mess inside, I accidentally found out that its Brew Group looks basically exactly the same as Gaggia cadorna prestige machine (check on YouTube, you'll see); makes me wonder what these companies are doing...
---------
Update:
---------
(~3 weeks after using the machine, brewing ~3 cups a day.)
* the pucks seem to have become more solid with less water in the ground container; though the pucks still breaks easily when touched. Maybe, just maybe, because I've taken out the Brew Group several times, playing around with it to see how it worked, cleaned it, and lubed it which eventually help it "loosen up" its mechanic...? (the coffee pucks from my old fully automatic Delonghi Perfecta machine are more solid).
* the taste is "good" (I'm only a casual coffee drinker); and there are so many factors that make up a good coffee drink; so I can't comment on it - but at least I personally think the latte quality is good enough to make it my daily driver.
* FYI: found a video on YouTube titled:
"Phillips 3200 Series LatteGo - Trying to make sloppy pucks. (See Description for Update)"
(by Bryan Klein) - though it's an older machine, if you just read its video description, it might reveal some insights about the machine's design (flaw).
- (something minor maybe) its coffee ground can be exposed to air.
So if you don't use the machine often, expect bad taste from your next brew.
Update (2 months):
minus a star to 3/5
- the coffee pucks are still loose. Meaning there is still excess moisture in the coffee ground, which not only making it a bit more difficult to clean but will be more likely to cause mold in more humid places.
- on multiple occassions, the machine mistakenly reports the ground container is full, but it is NOT! It only contains mushy ground from one previous brew.
---
Update (~5 month of use):
-1 another star
(new photos provided for mold formed in the machine and ground container)
Regretted buying (this) automated coffee machine. Too much hassle cleaning:
- coffee puck is still hardly formed; it's moist and scattered inside the machine, making it hard to clean and easy to grow mold. I'm in Canada and the air is usually dry esp in summer. I had to clean the machine multiple times a week. I'll never buy another automated machine; too many moving parts and maintenance is a pain.
Next time, I'd rather buy a grinder and espresso coffee machine separately.

Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2026Much quieter than the Phillips 5400 (we have one also) or our DeLonghi Magnifica. I measured the noise from all three and the 5500 is at least 10 DB quieter.
The coffee selections are very good, but I have not tried all of them yet.
One thing Phillips does right that our DeLonghi does not do. When there is not enough water to finish the brew, Phillips pauses allowing for water refill and then continues - assuming the delay is kit excessive. DeLonghi simply stops the brew.

Eric5 out of 5 starsGreat machine, Could use some improvements however.
Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2024Ive had this machine for a little over 2 weeks. Still trying to get used to it over my single cup cuisinart. I will bust this down by pros and cons.
Drinks this model can make are :
Espresso
Cappuccino
Latte Macchiato
Iced Coffee
Regular Coffee ( Can use pre ground coffee from the store or beans)
Hot water for tea
What you get in the box:
1 level measuring spoon
1 hard water test strip - used to set the sensor that determines the life of the included Aqua Clean filter.
1 lattego 3200 machine
1 Lattego Milk frothing container
1 Aqua clean filter
PROS:
* Love the fact that it has a built in grinder, all you do is load the hopper up with beans and you're ready to go, that is after you've filled the machine up with water and ran through preliminary first use setup instructions.
* Virtually no clean up after making each cup of coffee - All you do is turn the machine on and it runs through a self clean cycle - takes about 1 minute. Then you are ready to start making coffee.
* Coffee is VERY flavorful - tastes like I went to Starbucks or some professional coffee shop.
* You do have the ability to also load the machine with 1 spoonful of preground coffee if you run out of beans or you just want to use pre ground beans by default - although not sure why you would as I can tell you the flavor is vastly different between preground and Fresh ground. I also notice that with the fresh ground option I get the caffeine pick me up without the bitter coffee taste or caffeine jitters and sour stomach I usually get with pre ground coffee.
* The included frothing cup is awesome at making specialty coffees and really is a game changer. Its great when you want something different from a plain old cup of coffee. For some zing, I mix 1/2 cup International Delight Sweet cream creamer with fat free milk to get a flavored froth. Works great!
CONS
* The water system is a little wonky. Ive ran into this a couple of times already - when your water reservoir is almost empty - you will still have 1 inch of water left in the reservoir and the intake of the aquaclean filter is still fully submerged - you would think you should still be able to make at least 1 more cup of coffee or finish the cup you are currently brewing - but no - the sensor will trip and the machine will stop brewing or not let you brew a new cup until you fill the reservoir back up again. Making large cups of coffee will drain the reservoir fast. Even at 1-2 cups a day you will be filling the reservoir up probably every 3-4 days. Small inconvenience. Phillips should have made an option for a water line to be ran to the unit. Ive read some users were looking at installing a float valve in the reservoir but if you do that, know that it will void your warranty.
* Default amount of liquid machine dispenses - on its lowest setting - it dispenses around 4 oz. of liquid , medium and large appear to be very close to about 8 oz of liquid. If you want a regular size cup of coffee you know anything over 8 ozs you have to press and hold the coffee button for the x2 light to light up which tells the machine to brew 2 cups in a row. However be mindful of your liquid setting in relation to the actual size of your mug. My mugs are about 12 ozs. So if I hit the coffee x2 and use the highest liquid settings.. it will overflow the cup - which you can stop manually by pressing the stop button. You can change the amount of default liquid the machine dispenses via the setup which you enter by holding the button of the drink for 3 seconds then you press the volume button to change it from small to medium to large- then press play. The machine will then brew coffee and start filling the cup. The instructions are vague in this area as it says you can adjust the highest setting of liquid dispensed. Ive tried this multiple times and the machine is preprogrammed to know how many ozs to dispense at its highest setting. So you are not able to go beyond it. The instructions make it sound like you can breach the high setting, but it does not appear you can during setup. My advice to you on this - so you are not wasting beans or coffee- press the hot water button so the machine only dispenses hot water, then select your water level then press play. To get an idea of how much water the machine will dispense for each water level in relation to how big your mugs are.
No Timer-Sorry folks there is no auto timer to start brewing before you wake up in the AM. There is not even a built in clock.
Things to be aware of:
Type of beans you can use-
Ive researched on the Phillips line from the 3200 all the way up to the new 5000 model. They do say this in their instructions - but in the 3200 instructions its listed under the cautionary section versus the other models where its listed under the brewing with beans sections. Bottom line - these machines can only handle light to medium roast beans. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT get dark roast beans or any type of espresso bean. Reason being for this is because - by default coffee beans are actually green in their natural state. When beans are harvested and then undergo the roasting process - beans begin to darken - as they darken they start to release their natural oils which gives us that coffee flavor we all love. However- the longer a bean is roasted - the darker it gets- the darker a bean gets.. the more oil it releases. So with dark beans- their oil content is much higher which can coat and ruin the built in grinder over time with regular use. Ive read several reviews where people did NOT read the instructions or do their research and have ruined their machines by using dark roast or espresso beans. There is a grinder cleaner you can get and run through the machine which is recommended in the maintenance section. I have been getting the Dunkin Doughnuts medium roast beans- they have rich dark flavor and give a nice smooth cup of coffee with a nice caffeine kick.
Output Temp of coffee-
Ive seen alot of complaints from people saying their coffee is not hot enough - Ok - Im not beyond accepting some units could have a DOA heating element. However mine makes my coffee pretty damn hot. To the point I cannot hold the mug directly- and thats perfect for me. To each their own I suppose. Not sure how much hotter one would need their coffee- I would prefer to have my taste buds left.
Turning the machine on -
Each time you turn the machine on when its been off and idle for several hours, it will run through a quick self clean mode- where it flushes the lines with about 2 tbsps of water. So I would advise not putting your mug under the dispensing head until the machine has fully cleaned itself which takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Puck Collection Bin-
There is a sensor that monitors this bin per se, it monitors it however by how many pucks have been made. Not by how many pucks are physically in the bin. If you remove the water collection tray to empty waste water. The puck sensor automatically resets, as the machine thinks you will be emptying both. If you dont empty the puck waste bin at the time of emptying the water waste tray. The puck bin inside will continue to fill with pucks and you may not get notified that the bin is full and risk an overflow. So my advice - anytime you remove the water waste tray - also empty the puck bin - even if there are only 1-2 pucks inside.
Noise level-
Ive seen people complain about noise.. Seriously People?? Its a freaking espresso / coffee machine with a built in grinder and a milk frother. So if you are expecting Pure Moods to magically start playing when you turn this machine on along with a masseur who has scented candles to gingerly wake you up with a massage and a nice cup of coffee rather than your typical grinder or frother sounds, this machine may not be for you.
If youve ever owned a bean grinder or used a milk frother or even gone into a starbucks.. You will know already that.. grinders and frothers are somewhat loud. Small price to pay for a very flavorful cup of coffee. More so than what you get from a standard coffee machine.
Side note -
Treat this machine like a car or a high end laser printer as in make sure you perform the suggested routine maintenance steps in the users manual. This machine is alot more complex than your standard 1 pot coffee machine. There are alot of moving parts that make this machine work and they DO require routine maintenance. Not cleaning out the brew group, or lubricating the brew group, or lubricating O-rings will shorten the life of the machine. Not to mention following the routine suggested cleaning schedule. After all, if you are going to spend $700 + on an appliance, why wouldnt you want to take care of it?
Final Take away -
This is a great machine, though, it could stand some improvements, although minor. I had saw one guys review on youtube regarding this model and he put it perfectly in saying that yes there are some drawbacks with this machine but they can all be overlooked as this machine does make one hell of a good cup of coffee. Plus the convenience of not having to load a coffee machine first thing in the morning OR clean it out immediately after making a cup. You can brew several cups in a row with no intervention. Its a simple matter of - press the power button - wait 1 min for self clean - select your drink and its strength and volume then press play and watch this machine go to work. You are getting a FRESH cup of coffee. You dont have to worry about dumping out a coffee filter daily - there is an internal puck bin which will collect your discarded grounds. This only needs to be dumped maybe once a week depending on how much coffee you brew. So if you have the extra cash and you want to spoil yourself, I cannot recommend this machine enough to you. You wont regret it. I have found myself drinking more coffee because of this machine. 1 bag of dunkin doughnuts beans has lasted me for 2 weeks and going. I just empted the last of it into the hopper, which is still pretty full. This machine knows how to make very good use of very little beans.

Jorge Nuñez5 out of 5 starsEs un excelente producto
