Koehler examines Large Language Models (LLMs) in relation to architectural questions of typology – those critical junctures where architecture engages with the city itself. &nbsp; This study utilizes large-scale-text-to-image (LLI) models to investigate possibilities to describe building types data-centric. With the introduction of "data-centric typologies" we hope to challenge traditional architectural classification systems while reviving type as an architectural strategy to link socio-economic contexts to the physical form of a place, building, or city. By examining AI-generated images of various city buildings, the research explores compositional characteristics, realism, and model limitations. We generated and segmented a synthetic dataset of 450,000 images into individual building segments, conducting a statistical analysis of compositional features across 5600 cities. With our first objective we ascertained whether LLI models can generate realistic portrayals of a wide array of local types, and to identify existing limitations. Secondly, we categorized the data to compositionally compare cities, which subsequently enabled us to identify key compositional metrics for this type of big-data analysis and visualize their hyper-dimensional feature space. Finally, we compared insights from the derived compositional score with established socio-economic city rankings. Despite dataset biases and limitations, our results indicate synthetic databases provide a deeper analytical basis than traditional methods. The generated dataset alone paints forensic landscapes of locales that are not typically showcased. Particularly from a pedagogical perspective, data-centric investigations can serve as a valuable tool for illustrating the diversity of cities and living modes. The "Austin City Streetscapes" project explores the potential for increased density and incorporating more tree areas in the city's streetscapes. By re-imagining existing concrete pavements and interconnecting them with new massing, bridges, and pathways, the goal is to create more urban landscapes that improve human flow and overall livability in the city. When cars become electric and driverless, our perception of nonhuman spaces in cities is set to change. Once dusty, loud, and polluting, these areas will become quiet, calm, large, and wide. This opens up new opportunities for affordable ground conditions, which can be used for walkability, plazas, interaction, food production, and more. This new light for a different future has the potential to become a new ground for human areas, with public squares, food production, and parks all being incorporated into urban life. <img One example: How would neighborhoods be if we would demand buildings to plant the same area they stand on? Green roofs are an established construction method since generations but rarely built. Thinking only the construction of a building, their maintenance and initial costs is usually used to cancel them. Not so, if you think buildings and their cities circular. Green roofs lower temperatures not only for the spaces below but distributed for outdoor areas and entire neighborhoods too. Direct and indirect temperature sinking results in up 5C or up to 25% of energy savings. When you begin to argue with a building's lifecycle then add the additional recreational qualities not only through roofs that switch from paved deserts to parks but also the cooled outdoor areas that longer usable for activities. Lively streets means lively business. Therefore, cities should have a direct interest in incentising or regulating for green roofs. Such policies could quickly be realised. Nearly all cities regulate neighborhoods with zonings, and other regulations. You only have to update those. synergies from the artificial lighting of urban indoor farming. From an aesthetic play of light and shadow to the limits of a building’s depth to endless warehouses: Light has always shaped the ways buildings could become. Recent technological advances, like machine vision, automated seeding, and low-energy UV lightening enabled the compression of agricultural farming to vertical indoor farming. Here, I collaborate with AI to envision large communal spaces and other architectural synergies from indoor greeneries. The UV lights needed for vertical planting figurates the voids of new urban interiors.
