By Melody Ifechi Enyinnaya, Community Development Advocacy Foundation Every evening in Nigeria’s cities, smoke rises from open dumpsites. It is easy to mistake it for burning waste, but it’s not. By Frank Sekyere, Programs Manager for Upcycle It Ghana Every morning, millions of garments are pulled from racks across Europe and the United States - purchased with excitement, worn a handful of times (if at all), and then discarded in favour of the next trend. But where do those discarded clothes go after being cast

Eleven African Countries Are Advancing Organic Waste Management and Protecting Waste Pickers | Climate & Clean Air Coalition
Most of Africaâs municipal solid waste (57%) is organic. Poor sorting practices and limited processing optionsâsuch as composting or recyclingâcombined with overflowing landfills have increased the continentâs vulnerability to climate change, leading to more frequent flooding, landslides, prolonged droughts, and rising food insecurity. Additionally, poor waste management practices contribute to declining air quality and related health issues across the continent.
