Hey everyone, having recently passed the half year anniversary of Ziggy’s Landing and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on where we are and how far we’ve come. The time since launching the Dino Babies in Space project has hands down been the most creatively satisfying of my life, and I’m so grateful for the incredible, supportive, and consistently hilarious community we’ve built. This project would be so much less without each and every one of you.

Where we have been

As of now we’ve pitched to 7 major animation studios and received amazing feedback that we are currently applying before we begin the next phase of pitching. This is something that I want to emphasize because it’s very common in these situations that executives are looking for any excuse to say no, to turn a project down. Not only have we not gotten a single ‘no’, but we’ve been invited back to pitch to every single one of these studios once we address these notes.

An important part of this process is remaining nimble on our feet, and adapting to the fluctuating demands of a multifaceted project like this. All of the studios are looking for different things, but I believe my years in the industry have trained me to always look for ‘the note behind the note’.This is most tangibly manifested in us writing and storyboarding the first Dino Babies short, a standalone space adventure that we have been writing and drawingduring the bi-weekly Studio Sessions. The pitch and the pilot episode were created to draw in the audience (and execs) by showcasing the humor, heart, and action of the show, and ultimately to spark their imaginations and plant the seed of possibility for what this show can be. With this new short, we are proving that these characters can have heart and humor that can extend for 10, 50 or even 100’s of episodes. As producers I urge everyone to join in and take an active role in shaping what the final show will be during these studio sessions.

Where we are going

A crucial aspect in continuing to strengthen our project is establishing Dino Babies as a “pre-existing IP”. We’ve begun production on our comic and are already working with established publishers and editors to make ‘Dino Babies in Space’ a tangible book you can walk into a comic book store and buy. In the next month, we’re expecting:

• A completed animatic
• Layout of comic issue #1

And once the animatic for the short is completed:

• We immediately go into full production mode of issue #1 of the DBiS comic
• With the goal to secure a deal to publish an ongoing comic book series with a major publisher.

Just this week, we got the first collection of Dino Baby merch to go with the Ziggy plush, along with a couple more big surprises coming very soon.

With all the uncertainty in the space I want to assure everyone that the day-to-day of Dino Babies isn’t going to change. We have been consistently working towards our goals and we are in a better, stronger, and more secure place to make our animated series than we have ever been. We said we were in it for the long-haul from the beginning and no amount of market uncertainty is going to stop us from achieving our goals. If the future looks uncertain for web3 as a whole, then we are just going to put our heads down and work even harder.

We are so grateful for every person that is along for the ride with us, and we can’t wait to show you what the future holds.

This article covers the usages and the math behind the Egg Game, our idle play to earn game on the ethereum blockchain.

Recap of Season 1

In season 1, we created $DinoEggs and set a few immutable rules:

• There will only ever be 3,000,000 eggs ever
• All eggs are pre-minted and held in our distribution wallet
• Eggs are not burned, they are recycled back to distribution
• Eggs and only Eggs will be the governance token of the Dino Babies Community Wallet

And we introduced the core of the Egg Game, Ziggy. Ziggy’s role in Egg Game is to move eggs from the distribution wallet to the holder’s “Unclaimed pile.” The whole game in season 1 had the following mechanics:

• Every Ziggy moves 1 Egg/Day (incremented every minute) from the distribution pool to the owner’s unclaimed pool
• Once an egg is accounted for in an unclaimed pool, it can always be claimed regardless if the owner still has the generating Ziggy
• An owner must initiate a claim function request to move unclaimed eggs to their actual wallet

It was a very simple idle game in Season 1.

Season 2 — Pirates and Additional Utility

Season 2’s is focused on adding utility to players of the Egg Game both through how to use Eggs but also for rewarding active Egg Game players.

We are addressing this two ways: updated mechanics focused on active players, and creating new egg usages throughout the season.

Season 2 Game Mechanics

We are adding functionality to both Ziggy and the Pirates.

A. Ziggy Improvements

While all Ziggy holders will always generate 1 egg/day, active players who want to get the most out of the game will be presented with an option to stake Ziggys. A staked Ziggy will move 2x its passive generation rate.

B. Why Not Say 2 Eggs/Day?

We are not sure yet if future game balances will increase the base rate of egg generation but we do know that future token expansions of the game will add additional modifiers to Ziggy. 2x is multiplicatively rewarding for playing, which in the long run of the game makes the benefit of staking greater.

C. Pirate Mechanics

Space Pirates act as an active balancer, or win more mechanics, for active players in the game. We knew that by allowing Ziggys to have passive generation attributes there may be an accumulation of eggs in the unclaimed pools of inactive players.

We want to reward players of the game, so pirates act as a way of redistributing eggs across all wallets. Because active players claim eggs, they will be able to remove eggs from redistribution while inactive wallets are continually equalized to the average unclaimed pool.

Here is how we offer equalizing unclaimed pools while also giving active players a boost in their egg generation rate:

1. Once a pirate is staked they will prepare an attack on a random unclaimed pool. To prevent users from knowing the time of an attack and seeing batch waves of attacks going out at once, a pirate’s prep time will take between 16 to 32 hours (randomly decided). The exact offset from 24 hours is randomly generated daily after staking and after the last attack.
2. In the long run, this averages out to daily attacks, but any one data point could be 16 hours since stake or at most 32 hours from stake.
3. The target wallet is determined randomly after the last attack or right after a pirate is staked. Only wallets that have +1 $dinoegg in their unclaimed pool will be allowed to be targeted.
4. The wallets are chosen during attack prep, so if the wallet’s unclaimed pool goes below 1 egg during the prep time, the wallet is still attacked.
5. There is no cooldown on wallets being attacked and there is no threshold on the number of attacks being prepared on the same wallet. Outlier cases of many attacks in the same day are possible, but each attack has significantly diminished returns.
6. When an attack commences, after prep time is complete, there is a dice roll of 0–99 to determine the % of eggs stolen from the unclaimed pool. For v1.0.0 of the pirate game, a hard ceiling will be 90% even if a dice roll hits a number above 90.
7. This means that even on a critical success dice roll, the max a pirate can steal in one attack is 90% of the unclaimed pool in the target wallet.
8. The average value of an attack in v1.0.0 is 49% due to this hard ceiling.
9. A second dice roll the “Detection” roll will determine if the pirate is stopped during their raid. In v1.0.0 the detection chance is 5% of all attacks. If the pirate is detected, whatever amount they were going to steal is instead 0.
10. This lowers the effective attack value to 46% of unclaimed pool eggs.
11. Stolen eggs are deposited in the attacker’s unclaimed pool. Which suggests then that at any point, the stolen eggs can be stolen again if they are not claimed. This means Pirates can steal from other Pirates, not just Ziggy’s.
12. This concept of letting pirates steal from both Ziggy’s and Pirates unclaimed pools focuses on the concept of equalizing faster. As at any point 46% of a theft is put into another unclaimed pool. In a matter of days, a chain of pirate thefts will effectively spread egg generation out evenly to all wallets.
13. Uniformity on a large scale helps bring new active members into the community faster.

D. The Effective Value of a Staked Pirate

Currently, the average Ziggy holder is generating a little over 2 $dinoeggs a day. That suggests the average pirate when deployed will usually steal ~2.3 eggs daily.

This number changes dramatically if there are 8,000 pirates deployed on only 3,000 holder wallets and the average pirate will only steal ~0.8 eggs a day. But that is a 90% staked rate of pirates, which we have seen in play to earn games as a rare occurrence.

E. Uniformity by Large, but RNG (random) at Any Point

A lot of the economics here was calculated at large scale. IE: what happens to distribution of Dino Eggs after a month with pirates staked?

Where the user has real choices to make is on the daily. By claiming their egg pool, they are removing eggs from circulation and reducing the total equalizing rate of eggs stolen by pirates.

Additionally, any single day of raiding could generate big wins for a single wallet. With an outlier roll of 90% theft and hitting a uniquely rich wallet, there are chances to bring in big hauls. If an active player watches their pool, they can really cash out before it gets redistributed.

F. Uses For $DinoEggs

Besides Dino Eggs being used as the Community Wallet’s governance token, we are introducing the following usages for Dino Eggs in Season 2.

• Dino Eggs as minting fuel — You will be able to use Dino Eggs to mint pirates
• Entries for exclusive partner presale giveaways — We are working to create a giveaway portal to secure more limited raffle allowlists
• Exchange for merch — We are developing one-time-use coupons for the Dino Babies merch store that can be generated with Dino Eggs

In Flight for Season 3

In Season 3 we plan on bringing more utility to the Dino Egg with the following expansions

• Dinobabies allowlist reserve — You can reserve season 3 allowlists with Dino Eggs
• Season 3 Token Mutations — Tokens in our Season 3 collection will have unique transformations that are unlocked with Dino Eggs.
• Exclusive VIP discord channels — We plan on bringing more features to the discord like exclusive information, vip chats with the staff and extra giveaways and membership in the VIP can only be access with Eggs

TL;DR

• Ziggy staking is a 2x multiplier on base egg generation
• Pirates have a 16–32 hour cooldown between attacks (randomly chosen)
• Pirates choose their target during the cooldown and the target must have 1+ egg in their unclaimed pool
• Pirates will randomly steal between 0–90% of an unclaimed pool’s eggs
• All stolen eggs end up in the attacker’s unclaimed pool
• Pirates have a 5% additional failure chance to end up stealing 0 eggs

Here is a brief overview of what we have in store for the second quarter, Season 2, of Dino Babies in Space.

Season 2 NFTs

In Season 2, Honey Brasco’s Space Pirates attack the blockchain. 8,888 Space pirates will be available for mint starting on February 28th, 2022. Buyers can choose between minting with Ethereum or exchanging their Dino Eggs token for a pirate.

How Do I Get on the allowlist? Be a Ziggy Holder! A snapshot of all Ziggy owners will be taken, meaning if you own 3 Ziggy’s, you will be able to mint up to 3 pirates with ETH! There are no wallet limits for minting with $DinoEggs.

What makes the pirates NFT collection unique is that unlike other PFP avatar projects? There are five unique pirates distributed across the entire collection.

Even though each pirate is unique, their traits are the same. That means for the 85 traits in this collection, we drew them 5 times to fit the personality of each pirate

There are over 300 unique traits across 5 characters in this release.

The Launch Of The Egg Games

In season 1, we introduced $DinoEggs and Ziggy’s ability to generate 1/day. In season 2, we turned egg generation into a true on-chain idle game. Pirates have the ability to steal unclaimed eggs and Ziggys can be staked to double their egg earnings, a max of 2 $DinoEggs/day/Ziggy.

Ziggy Plushies are Coming

We have contacted a manufacturer of high quality plushies and they have agreed to work with us to get the first samples sent out for quality inspection.

Our goal is to have a presale by late March and shipping in April for the first batch of Ziggy plushies. More posts of the concept art will be coming soon, and sneak peeks of first production batches will definitely be shown.

Since our genesis mint, the show is in full production mode as we build pitch bibles, create a pilot and work out merchandising licensing agreements.

To scale with our growth we have hired the following roles:

The Dino Babies DAO Accelerator and Grant programs

In March we plan on launching both the Dino Babies Accelerator and DAO Grant programs. These are two different ways to build our community and its influence on the DAO through strategic investments and really making the DAO greater than the sum of all of its parts.

Dino Babies Grant Program

If you are an artist or entertainment industry hopeful, we want to help you achieve your goals! The Dino Babies DAO is opening up its funds to help artists that want to enter or grow within the entertainment industry by offering them artist grants. These grants will be through a common application process, reviewed by the DAO community and awarded via Ethereum.

This is a community driven initiative because we know it’s hard for anyone to get their foot into the door of Hollywood. It is our goal to help foster growth in the media space and it is important that we don’t pull up the ladder behind us after being able to launch our own show.

Dino Babies NFT has two goals: Help create the Dino Babies in Space animated series by Matt Bolinger and foster a worldwide community around the Dino Babies NFT project. The Dino Babies NFT project is unique because it bridges both of those goals at one central node: The Dino Babies Community Wallet.

Season 1: Creation of the Wallet & Egg Generation

In Season 1, our Genesis Token, Ziggy, will have a whitelist and public mint for 5,500 total unique tokens. The majority of our mint cost will circle back into the community in two ways:

• Funding Matt’s independent studio to start production on the show’s pilot episode
• The funding of The Dino Babies Community Wallet

The Dino Babies Community wallet is focused on the growth of our community and subsequently investing in the animated series. As a decentralized producer, our wallet effectively acts as the growth manager of our fandom but also an early-stage investor in an animated series.

When Matt and the show win, the community wins as well.

To reward holders of Ziggy, we have created a utility token that acts as a vote in the wallet governed by Dino Eggs. Effectively the more Dino Eggs you have the more votes you get on funding proposals, and the larger your impact is as a producer. As with everything in life: with great power comes great responsibility.

A Finite Resource

On wallet creation, we will create 3,000,000 Dino Eggs and store them in a multi-sig distribution wallet. The number is purposefully low compared to other fractionalized DAO projects to make the holder’s vote matter. When you hold Dino Eggs, you are a major participant in the Dino Babies in Space project.

How to Get Dino Eggs

In Season 1, the only official way to acquire Dino Eggs is by holding a Ziggy. Each Ziggy passively generates 1 Dino Egg a day (broken out into hourly increments) for its holder, the more Ziggys you hold, the more Dino Eggs you generate. There is no staking of a Ziggy required to receive your governance tokens, feel free to swap, vault, or sell your Ziggy at any point.

These Eggs however are not airdropped immediately into a holder’s wallet, they will have to claim Eggs from the distribution wallet via a smart contract interaction. Otherwise, the Eggs will sit in an unclaimed pile and not count towards “active Eggs in circulation” and have no voting presence in the community wallet. Claiming will be its own unique smart contract function on our site and will be optimized for the low gas per tx.

Your unclaimed Dino Eggs will always be available for you as well. If for any reason you do not claim your Dino Eggs before transferring your Ziggy, the amount of Dino Egg generated in your holding period will still be waiting for you.

We have chosen to make claiming Eggs active as we want our production partners to choose to be part of the process.

What is a Dino Egg Worth?

The Dino Babies NFT project, nor Matt Bolinger or any studio Dino Babies works with believes a Dino Egg token is worth anything material. What Dino Egg holders choose to do with the token is out of our control as our intention with Dino Eggs is purely a governance token of the community wallet and fuel to power our community projects.

Season 2 Teaser: A Pirate Raid

In Season 2 the Dino Babies NFT project will introduce true gamification of Dino Eggs in the form of the Space Pirate attack!

How to Acquire a Space Pirate

Space Pirates will have two ways of minting: Eth and Dino Eggs. This allows Dino Egg holders to participate in the game without extra cost, but also allows new fans to join the community. A majority of Eth minting costs will also circulate back to the Community Wallet as an extra fund raise.

All Dino Eggs spent on the minting process will circulate back into the distribution wallet, effectively redistributing Dino Eggs back to the community and extending the deadline for total Dino Egg Distribution.

The Pirate Raid

While we cannot reveal all the math at this point, by staking a pirate you will effectively send your pirate on a mission to steal Dino Eggs. Pirates will not generate new Eggs or pull from the community wallet, but instead pull from unprotected Eggs across the universe.

We believe the Pirate Raid will encourage active participation in the project, and create an opportunity to balance the risk of a few Ziggy Whales controlling the Community Wallet.

Future Seasons and Dino Egg Interaction

Our goal is to continually create utility for Dino Egg holders. While Ziggy is the ultimate token to bring more Eggs into circulation, future seasons will introduce multiple new interactions with Dino Eggs.

Our goal is to use the Dino Egg as fuel for the entire Dino Babies NFT project and we predict the following interactions will enter the ecosystem in 2022:

• Mutations by cosmic rays
• Suiting up and equipping your Dino
• Entering a Dino Bazaar and trading Dino Eggs for cross-project collaborations

Tokenomic FAQ’s

• How soon after the public mint will Ziggys start generating Dino Eggs?

We are aiming for within the same week at the same time the Community Wallet is funded

• You mention there are only 3,000,000 Dino Eggs. Doesn’t that mean at some point Ziggy will stop generating Eggs?

Yep, you identified a major incentive in the game. With only 3,000,000 Dino Eggs, theoretically, the distribution wallet will run out of Dino Eggs in 545 days or a year and a half from the creation of the Community Wallet.

However, every season will introduce new methods to use Dino Eggs and recirculate the supply back into the distribution wallet. Only Ziggy will ever pull Dino Eggs from the distribution wallet.

• How will the claiming process work if I transfer a Ziggy between multiple wallets/vaults?

Every hour 1/24th of a Dino Egg will be attributed to the current wallet holding Ziggy. This will be calculated at claim time by looking at the Ethereum blockchain’s transfer history of Ziggys. Every wallet that held Ziggy for more than 1 hour will have a portion of a Dino Egg reserved for them from the distribution wallet regardless of it the wallet is holding the Ziggy at time of claim.

• If only 5,500 Dino Eggs are available for claim daily, doesn’t that mean early holders have more voting power?

Yes! Exactly. The first few proposals will probably only have a handful of active Dino Egg holders voting on them. Much like a startup, our earliest producer partners will have a lot of influence and responsibility in helping grow the show. This is by design to allow more producers to enter slowly instead of immediately saturating early holder’s impact.

• What sort of creative control/influence do producers have on the show and the community?

The producer holds the checkbook and the wallet receives the majority of mint and royalty rewards. If the Dino Babies NFT project or Dino Babies in Space production team needs funds, they will have to ask the community wallet first. That is a lot of power.

But also, the voters in the wallet will be able to make purchases outside of the show. If the community decides the best thing to do with the Ethereum is to purchase tokens in other NFT projects, then the wallet can do it. Growing your community fund is paramount to a show’s success too.

• How will you prevent malicious proposals on the Community Wallet?

The community wallet will be hosted on an established DAO structure platform and set up in a multi-sig structure to prevent any one actor from doing anything malicious. The multi-sig council also will retain a ragekick emergency override on proposals that fly directly against the mission and vision of the community wallet.

It is our goal to never utilize the ragekick function. But we have seen DAO’s abused by a few whales voting on projects like “send 100 eth to my wallet.”

• Will Dino Babies offer liquidity options or sale via major token exchanges?

The Dino Babies NFT project has no intention of starting a liquidity pool on any exchange, nor will the Dino Babies team sell Dino Eggs from the distribution wallet to the liquidity pool.

Any sale or distribution pool outside of the official smart contracts established by the Dino Babies NFT team are community-managed.

Dino Babies in Space is the creative work and soon-to-be animated action-comedy, from the mind of Matt Bolinger (Nickelodeon, Warner Bros) that follows the adventures of a few brave juvenile dinosaurs as they search for a hospitable planet to live on following the mass extinction event of their home planet.

While navigating through their ever-evolving universe on their ship, Uncle Ptrey, the Dino Babies will have to survive a series of misadventures; one day they may have to settle an intergalactic trade war while escaping from Space Pirates, and the next they are racing in the Primordial Grand Prix. Our spacefaring reptiles are up for any challenge as long as it keeps them on their track to find their new home.

It’s Land Before Time, Star Trek, and Adventure Time all mixed up into one big prehistoric, futuristic animated series of antics.

In 2019, Matt Bolinger’s first Dino Babies in Space trailer and concepts received praise from peers and executives, but resources were out of reach to take the show on full-time as the COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe. Bolinger has spent a significant amount of his quarantine downtime refining and finally Dino Babies in Space, along with his dream of an animated series, are now ready to lift off!
