Today, a single xeet can kickstart global conversations, and an Instagram post can rally millions to a cause. That’s some serious power in our hands! It’s not just about the technology — it’s about how these tools transform: who we are, how we connect, and how we view one another.

Digital Reflections: The Stories We Share

At the heart of our online activity lies something deeply human: the desire to connect. From sharing photos to supporting causes, our interactions weave a collective digital story. Nina Wickman’s insightful essay, Det Dolda Budskapet (English: The Hidden Message), highlights how influencers and social media reshape political dialogue and societal norms. It’s proof that everything we share — whether a like, comment, or viral video — plays a role in building the threads of a much larger narrative.

The Power of Stories
Every time we share, like, or comment, we add to a shared story that reflects our values, beliefs, and aspirations. Instead of aimless scrolling, we can use this power to unite, inspire, and create meaningful change.

The Influence of Influencers

Influencers serve as modern-day storytellers and trendsetters. But their reach extends beyond product promotions — they shape cultural dialogues and influence how their followers perceive the world. Pioneering communication theorists such as Katz and Lazarsfeld introduced the concept of a “two-step flow,” where media initially impacts opinion leaders, who then play a role in shaping public opinion. Today, social media has supercharged this model enabling influencers to, not just share information, but define entire narratives.

At the same time, our digital behavior is shifting the boundaries between our public and private lives. Communication theorists like Marshall McLuhan remind us that “the medium is the message.” Platforms like Instagram and TikTok don’t just transmit messages — they shape how those messages are understood, altering the way we connect and converse.

A concept image showing notification icons for likes, comments, and interactions on a smartphone and laptop, representing social media engagement.

The Digital Mirror
When you look at your social media presence, you’re not just seeing your ‘self’ — you’re seeing an intricate reflection of your wider community. Every action — like, post, xeet — helps shape the collective image of who we are. This digital mirror reflects where we are now and where we’re headed. Let’s be mindful of what we contribute to this shared portrait.

Balancing Authenticity and Performance

Social media often feels like a stage, where we carefully curate and share specific parts of our lives. Sociologist Erving Goffman might call this the “presentation of self,” as we try to control how others perceive us. But at what point does this performance blur with authenticity? Are we showcasing who we truly are, or constructing a version of ourselves that we think others want to see?

The Dance of Authenticity
Social media is like a dance where we’re all trying to balance being real with putting our best foot forward. Every post, comment, or story becomes part of this performance. Yet, within this dance lies an opportunity, the chance to foster genuine connection, inspire others, and spread positivity.

Stories that Inspire Connection

Consider Anna, a young activist who shares her zero-waste lifestyle on Instagram. Her posts go beyond pretty pictures — they tell a story that resonates with thousands, motivating them to rethink their consumption habits and consider their environmental impact. It’s a perfect example of how one person’s relatable narrative can inspire tangible change.

The statistics support this trend. Research from Pew shows that over 55% of Americans rely on social media for news at least some of the time. Findings from the Knight Foundation reveal that younger generations increasingly view these platforms as spaces for civic engagement. Social media has become central to shaping our collective conversations and inspiring action.

The Canvas of Tomorrow

The future of social media is like a blank canvas, full of possibilities. It can strengthen communities, amplify social change, and foster connection. But, it can also perpetuate issues like echo chambers, misinformation, and performative behaviors. What kind of future we create depends on how we pick to engage with the tools at our disposal.

To illustrate these possibilities, imagine using powerful visuals:

Simple infographics explaining how influence and information spread online

Heartwarming photos of connections forged through digital platforms

Inspiring images of real-world actions sparked by social media campaigns

Sweeping landscapes to remind us of the real world we share and are responsible for

A Call to Action: Building a Compassionate Digital World

When you consider how you interact online, a crucial question emerges: How can you use social media to foster kindness, connection, and empathy? This isn’t just a question of technology — it’s one of humanity. Each post, comment, and interaction matters. Together, these small actions create ripples that can build or break the foundation of a more caring digital world.

Do you want to keep exploring these kinds of ideas? Check out Nina Wickman’s essay, Det Dolda Budskapet, and join her conversation on X (formerly Twitter) [@]wickman_.

A smartphone recording the sun setting over a mountain range, symbolizing reflection and perspective.

Social media is a powerful tool, and with great power comes responsibility. Let’s use it thoughtfully to create a richer, more empathetic future — where every story, every post, and every connection helps shape a better world for all.

References

Katz, E., & Lazarsfeld, P.

Technology constantly surrounds you, and your design is on your tablet or other gadgets for rapid response. But has hand drawing evolved into more than a nostalgic pastime? Why isn’t everyone talking about it, and why aren’t you seeing the beginnings of something big? However, how is paper different from a screen? Is it a new trend you may promote among your colleagues to encourage more hand-sketching and begin a “new skill set” trend worthwhile when high-tech software is growing daily?

As the world grows more digital, you must update your understanding of the digital world inside your specialization or area of expertise. As a result, it is logical to use digital mock-up tools while creating digital places. However, by doing so, you eliminate an overload of choices because an analog drawing may free your imagination and allow you to concentrate on what matters most at the start: the ideas overload.

You may have observed that everyone appears to have a strong opinion regarding “pen and paper” sketching these days. You don’t hear about it. You can’t find many blog posts or articles on the topic. It’s as if someone has placed a stigma on this critical step in a designer’s creative process. Here is when the idea starts to bloom and develop to the fullest. The comic part of this is that you always hear a few folks who despise the prospect of putting their ideas on paper because they can’t draw to save their lives. At the same time, other creators couldn’t see their creativity existing without sketching. You either love it or despise it. Your sketchbook is about much more than old-school magic.

Sketching on paper, in my experience, has a significant effect when you work with your hands. It’s something you can’t define: it elevates the designs and allows you to sketch for hours in a flow state. If you spend hours in front of the computer screen or tablet, you will always do a variety of various movements to go where you want to go or see what you want to view. And most importantly, it takes significantly longer to sketch on a computer or tablet than directly on paper. You will also think more clearly as you develop and design better with your idea.

For many years, cognitive psychologists have conducted extensive research on the effects of drawing on brain functioning. Here’s the secret: sketching thoughts on paper is a highly effective approach to improving one’s memory. It’s similar to creating mind maps on advanced study topics. According to Dennis Morris (2017), representations such as diagrams and sketches aid our external memory. It alleviates the load of recalling concepts and problem-solving.

Another standpoint is your original idea for an innovative design project. At this point, it is merely in your imagination, and you suddenly begin to give it shape. That is when the magic happens when you do the so-called external representations. Jill Larkin and Herbert Simon wrote an intriguing paper titled “Why a Diagram is (Sometimes) Worth Ten Thousand Words” about this issue. The idea has been pulled out of the brain and sent on paper. However, the amount of changes and improvements you can cognitively digest is restricted as long as it is in your head. The point is that unless you improve and manage the concept, it will not go anywhere.

Perhaps you’re wondering if hand-sketching truly saves the day. Yes, it most surely does. It allows you to externalize your mental representations and achieve what is known as reorganization. That’s what Ilse Verstijnen (1998), a researcher at the University of Utrecht’s Psychological Laboratory, calls it.

Verstijnen defines restructuring as the transformation of one configuration into another. When proficient hand-sketchers are permitted to sketch, they perform best at restructuring, according to scientific research. Sketchers were proven to be better than non-sketchers in modifying their initial thoughts and coming up with fresh alterations in an experiment.

There’s more: researcher Zafer Bilda and his colleagues at Turkey’s Bilkent University contrasted designers’ cognitive processes when drawing on paper instead of using the software. The investigation has already shown some significant discrepancies. Designers who used paper, for example, changed their aims and intents more frequently. They manage an enormous amount of cognitive activities too. It is critical to adjust purposes and goals when sketching. Here allows an initial idea to shift and be modifiable in the approach.

These findings, fascinating as they may be, may have less to do with how you are wiring and more with the schooling. Do you recall your first drawing or when your drawing teacher encouraged you to continue sketching? How every entire design class needed sketches to witness your concept from seed to life? Yes, we all learn to draw on paper, and this point may influence how our brain reacts to it.

Okay, another catch from behavioral psychology: conditioning. Assumption the paper was the initial creative stimulation in life. It should be no surprise that drawing behavior differs between paper and screen. Whatever their theory of human conduct, Homo Sapiens, can all agree on one thing: a blank sheet has been around longer than the computer screen.

Then, in 1984, WACOM released their first drawing tablet, and in Europe in 1988. Creators of digital sketching came alive for hoisting games, creating smoother and faster solutions for many designers in the world creatively. As technology advances and becomes more complex, so will the graphic tablet maker.

When did you draw your brilliant idea? Nobody strives for greatness with a pen and sketchbook. That is what distinguishes a pen stroke from a vector. The magic of a human hand on paper that you can almost feel.

The intriguing article “Amplifying the Mind’s Eye: Sketching and Visual Cognition” by Jonathan Fish and Stephen Scrivener (1990) introduces the idea that indeterminacy in Leonardo’s sketches elicits mental imagery because automatic cognitive recognition mechanisms attempt to complete the missing parts and match precepts to memory images. The mistakes (unfinished strokes, irregular lines, etc.) on paper are referring during sketching as “indeterminacies” or defects. Whatever represents our hesitation and serves as incredible guidance for new design options. Finally, you lose these when you select pixel precision.

More evidence from a Dutch team of scientists led by Remko van der Lugt (2004.) The team watched four (4) idea-generation meetings in which participants utilized one writing approach and another drawing technique. They concluded that drawing boosts group creativity by allowing individuals to reinterpret their ideas rather than facilitating other people’s access to those specific ideas once they are up for discussion.

The idea-generation technique increases hand-sketching while providing effective visual language that allows others to interpret, remark on, and implement ideas. That is vital in cross-cultural companies, especially for people whose visual sketching may overcome comprehension gaps.

Of course, you’re wondering if sketching will result in a better design. Of course, the easy response is no. Why? In some cases, sketching like a lunatic might result in a superior design.

Maria C. Yang (2009) followed the sketches of a group of engineering students during the “concept creation phase” and compared the outcomes to their final grades and contest performance. Insignificance, she discovered that the number of concepts developed by the students (as indicated by their sketches) was associated with better design outputs if two conditions were aligned. The first was that the sketching featured dimensions, and the second, was that the sketching where strongly linked to the results obtained in the first quarter of the process.

But what about proof that sketching improves concentration? Jackie Andrade (2009) investigated if sketching was associated with increased levels of focus in 40 participants. They conducted the test while on the phone. Sketching describes as idly doodling patterns and figures: that are unrelated to the task. Andrade (2009) observed that it might help to prevent daydreaming, improve attention, and alleviate boredom. As previously noticed, this is very interesting.

Here’s why some of us, creators and designers, take sketchbooks everywhere. The advantage of doodling is to be in the flow or calm for greater creativity.

Why not summarize and explain that sketching stimulates you to a comfortable level, keeping you alert, focused, and engaged? Other case studies have found that people who absorb information on paper are much less agitated and weary than those who receive information on screens. According to a team of researchers from the University of Gothenburg (Wästlund, E. et al. 2005), people who gazed at screens may have been more fatigue due to the “dual-task effect.”

Doesn’t this make sense? Even Selena Gomez Can Do This.

© 2018 Nina🦄. All rights reserved.

After a fantastic start of this week, I have got inspired to present and write a serious post that reveals the secrets behind Skype. Especially, the reason why I still don’t use it as much as other people do because Skype is still vulnerable and has a high risk when it comes to hack and crack.

I found a very updated post from Spyzie (a must read) that I want all humankind to learn and why you wonder. It is not so difficult because we need to find other solution where we can protect our identity but also sensitive information that can get into wrong hands.

The suggestion I have is:
1. Use Wire instead of Skype to get a secure web conferencing platform
2. Use ProtonMail for a highly reliable email system
3. Use Signal for sending text messages and so on to clients, friends, and family

© 2018 Nina🦄. Therefore, I am delighted that this extremely great person whom I have been speaking with couples of time from a large recruit company in Sweden. With this post, I might open new perspectives, and hopefully, this will lead to alternative suggestions.

The most aim of this post is also that Skype needs to become better, or Skype will continue to lack security and we who knows: stick to Wire.

© 2018 Nina🦄. However, we will…

You have heard about it, you know about it, and you know the risks, e.g., skimming. Still, you do not do anything about it because you lack knowledge. Perhaps it is your fear of making it worse and possibly destroy your passport or even your credit cards.

With this article, I want to show easy steps for an ‘n00b’ (a newbie) to let you know how you can protect your integrity and the data in your Passport or your credit cards.

First, let start with the passport and your cards that have an RFID chip…
https://medium.com/media/857e9b3955a640b51aa92b911158312d/href
This show how to create folders in a passive RFID shielding system that make it difficult for skimming. However, remember I said “passive,” that means that it still can make it possible for a hacker/skimmer to read it. There are companies now working on shields with actively electronically jams the frequency these devices (credit cards & passports) communicate over (13.56MHz). That means this will be impossible and not be passive blocking.

Second, now we are frightened about the new Visa payWave/MasterCard paypass, or in Sweden, we call it Blipp cards. Your bank can turn it off manually and if you are still unsure about this so call “manual function” that your bank was doing when you got the card. You can do another do it yourself process to destroy the possibility to swipe your credit card.

Visa payWave card — version 1:
https://medium.com/media/750a2d176bdf027b4aa54b0c2fb6c2ba/href
Visa payWave card — version 2:
https://medium.com/media/2a1a3c10c226a0b4505ea53634dc9312/href
If you still feel unsure or have any question(s), please contact me, and I will answer your questions or wonders.

The Biggest Reason Why Your VPN Does Not Work, If You Are A “Hide My Ass” User, Here Are The Solutions!

“The only truly secure system is one that powered off, cast in a block of concrete and sealed in a lead-lined room with armed guards.” — Gene Spafford

This article will be inspired by Seth Godin, Seth Godin, the way of ‘writing’ because he writes short and concise articles. Very refreshing for me and hopefully you will get to the point faster than reading much yadda.

Lately, you probably have heard about your Virtual Private Network (VPN) is not any longer trustworthy. Meaning, you need to start to control if you are using a bad service. VPN is famous due to the fact they help disguise the identification and private information of customers as they surf the web.

However, it would appear that many prominent examples of these services are no longer, in reality, residing up to their end of the bargain. In fact, it would seem that some VPNs are leaking the IP addresses of their users.

The researcher named Paolo Stagno (aka VoidSec) has performed a study case on 83 VPN clients to see only how invulnerable they are. As a result of his research, he discovered that of these providers, 17 leaked the IPs of their users. That makes up about 23 percentage of them.

I strongly recommend you also listen to Gibson, S. (2018) podcast “SN 657: ProtonMail”, you can scroll to 53–54 minutes in the podcast to come to the VPN section. Available at: http://tun.in/tioMmT

The best VPN client is the Hotspot Shield does not leak but Hide My Ass (HMA) does leak. If you want to find out if you have a well-designed filtered VPN client, Paolo Stagno (aka VoidSec) have built up a free service that you can control if you have any VPN problem. My smartphone is my “mini-mini-computer” and if I lost the phone, my life will more or less look like a disaster. Therefore, I’m now putting everything on my SD card, so I can do a ‘factory reinstall’ without any problems of losing sensitive data.

Samsung smartphone users go insane

Many Samsung smartphone users got a software issue or more or less: we all had big problems with our phones but what exactly it was, none had a direct clew about it.

My clue IS the Marshmallow 6.0.1 OS Android that made our phones go totally crazy, every user had no clue that it was the upgrading that was the issue until we really did a good research.

I found the gold-corn and in this tech-article, I want to share my version of fixing the OS Android software problem in our phones.

1. First, you can do a “Perform Wipe Cache partition”, however, I did it but my Samsung smartphone’s battery continues to get warm. Therefore you can continue to step 2.

2. Second, you can actually download an app called “Wake Lock — PowerManager” in Google Play Store. In the app, you run the app through ‘PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK’. Because it’s an OS problem, we can’t do anything about it as long as we use the Marshmallow 6.0.1 OS Android software on our phones. There is another step 3.

3. As long as you run your smartphone with the app “Wake Lock — PowerManager” you can put sensitive data on your SD card, even your apps and so on. While you have put all your data on your SD card. You can actually do a hard- and soft fabric reinstalls on your smartphone. Hopefully, you get the Lollipop 5.0 OS Android and your smartphone will work normally again. However, don’t upgrade your smartphone to Marshmallow 6.0.1 OS Android because that will result to step 0. That your smartphone will start to have the same issues/problems that occurred before.

When will Google launch next OS Android upgrade?

While we wait for Google to produce a better upgrade (soon!!), we have to do these alternatives and have patience.

I wish you good luck and don’t give up!

If you thought this article was helpful and a good guide for others to share, please give a clap and also please spread the article so more can read about the solutions. Because we can’t get hold of Google workers, right?

You would prefer not to sit individually before the entryway, yet you ought to even now observe individuals traveling every which way. You should have the ability to see a significant part of the room however as could be normal.

IF you have a smaller apartment, for example, a studio och have to place the desk against the wall. When you try to listen to brain waves sounds, you feel lost and don’t understand which waves you shall hear. I hope this blog post can make you comfortable and give a better understanding of brain waves.

Let me explain what brain waves is for those who do not knows it. Your mind comprises of billions of cerebrum cells called neurons, which utilize power to speak with each other. The blend of a vast number of neurons sending signals without a moment’s delay delivers a broad measure of electrical action in the cerebrum, which can be recognized utilizing delicate medicinal hardware, (for example, an EEG), measuring power levels over ranges of the scalp. The mix of electrical action of the cerebrum is usually called a brainwave design, due to its own cyclic, “wave-like” nature.

Source: Life Improving

Each fills a need to help us adapt to different circumstances — whether it is to help us prepare and learn new data or assist us in quiet down following a long, distressing day. The three (3) brain waves that I will be focusing on in the blog post is the following: alpha, beta, and theta. I will also include where you can listen to each brain waves, and no headphones are required neither.

Alpha Waves

This recurrence run crosses over any barrier between our cognizant deduction and intuitive personality. At the end of the day, alpha is the repetition field amongst beta and theta. It helps us quiet down when essential and advances sentiments of profound unwinding. If we wind up plainly focused on, a wonder called “alpha blocking” may happen which includes exorbitant beta action and almost no alpha. The beta waves “obstruct” out the creation of alpha since we turn out to be excessively excited.

Frequency range: 8 Hz to 12 Hz (Moderate)
Too much: Daydreaming, inability to focus, too relaxed.
Too little: Anxiety, high stress, insomnia, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).
Optimal: Relaxation.
Increase alpha waves: Alcohol, marijuana, relaxants, some antidepressants.
Listen: <https://tinyurl.com/nybgp7c>

Beta Waves

These are known as high-recurrence low-sufficiency mind waves that mainly watch while we are conscious. They are included in conscious thought, reasonable considering, and have a tendency to have a fortifying impact. Having the appropriate measure of beta waves enables us to center and finish school or work-based assignments effortlessly. Having excessively beta may prompt us encountering excessive anxiety or potentially tension. The higher beta frequencies are related to abnormal amounts of excitement. When you drink caffeine or have another stimulant, your beta movement will increment. Think about these as being quick mind waves that a large number of people show for the duration of the day with a specific end goal to finish cognizant errands, for example, critical thinking, composing, perusing, and socialization.

Frequency range: 12 Hz to 40 Hz (High)
Too much: Adrenaline, anxiety, high arousal, inability to relax, stress.
Too little: ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), daydreaming, depression, poor cognition.
Optimal: Conscious focus, memory, problem-solving.
Increase beta waves: Coffee, energy drinks, various stimulants.
Listen: <https://tinyurl.com/ku2ox6d>

Theta Waves

This particular recurrence range includes in wandering off in fantasy land and rest. Theta waves are associated with us encountering and feeling profound and crude feelings. An excessive amount of theta action may make individuals inclined to episodes of sorrow and may make them “very suggestible” in light of the way that they are in a profoundly casual, semi-trancelike state. Theta has its advantages of enhancing our instinct, innovativeness, and makes us feel more common than over the other brain waves. It likewise required in helpful rest. For whatever length of time that theta is not created in in abundance amid our waking hours, it is an extremely accommodating cerebrum wave run.

Frequency range: 4 Hz to 8 Hz (Slow)
Too much: ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), depression, hyperactivity, impulsivity, inattentiveness.
Too little: Anxiety, poor emotional awareness, stress.
Optimal: Creativity, emotional connection, intuition, relaxation.
Increase Theta waves: Depressants.
Listen: <https://tinyurl.com/kf449jo>

I will give you a good example, perhaps you have had too much coffee, and you started to feel too much disoriented because of the caffeine. Then you know by reading under “Beta Waves,” that this brain wave will cure your problem. The fun part is that I have tested it because I am caffeine sensitive and now I know my perfect amount, but we all sometimes get too much caffeine. Listen to beta, and it will cure you after a few minutes, you start to feel in balance and more focus in a positive way that won’t give you bad results.

I tested myself, and the interesting part is that your brain gets so sharp that you only can glimmers numbers, and you remember them per automatic.

I hope this blog post will help you and guide you when you feel blocked for some reason, listen to the right brain waves and let the waves do the mission and relax. Because the results you will soon feel in some ways.

Good luck to you all!

If you enjoyed this post, you might want to follow me to receive more interesting blog posts.

Two years ago, I got an election recommendation to a board of directors. During that time (the year 2016), I was middle of traveling to Asia, and it was a very hectic time in my life. However, I told the election committee that I was the available next year 2017. The meetings with the electoral commission were good in Fall 2016, that created a good feeling and I was accepting to become a board member. Although, after few meetings, the election committee saw potential in me to become the first woman chairman of the board. It was a very proud feeling, and my strategy is: if they see the quality in me, I know that I have the ability to archive high-quality in the board. I said yes to the position of becoming the first woman chairman of this male dominated organization.

Roll Me In Fairydust & Call Me A Unicorn

While I met the board, I felt that something was not correct and later on I got an acknowledgment that something was very wrong. I know this article is a bit cryptic, due to identity security both the persons that involve and the company/organization. Why I write it is because I want other to feel that you can make the right decision even in touch climate without losing your good flow in your life.

It is Winter 2017, the first month of the year: January. I felted that my level of communication, competence, and experience was on another level. When you speak, you see which level your “others” are on. When I also started to become an adviser to the board and teacher. That made me go crazy, but I kept myself calm.

I am not a quitter!

That is what I heard in my head, over and over again. I consulted few people that were respect and value for me (due to identity policy, I do not mention whom I spoke with). I got the answers. I knew them at the beginning of the year when I felted something was wrong and yet I wanted to consulate with these people who has a chairman position. Thank you!

I waited two months until I made my touch decision making, After few valuation and my weight was in the balance, I left the board with a good feeling in my body and:

…guess what?

I got my energy level back on track and 2017 start to go well again.

My advice to you is: even if it is a touch decision making and you continue walking in the drained role of chairman but there is no energy to work or your private life. Do it! Think about your health; it was not an egocentric decision making when it based on your health but also. If your board is sick/unhealthy or something is not all right, that you cannot affect in any matters. That is why you need to think about your other projects/work, your private life, and your health. Everything effect on everything, it is an ecological wheel.
