Root/Route is the theme of the second biennial alumni exhibition for the School of Visual Studies. Root as in tendrils, Route as in maps. How do we reach outward from our starting points, from the seeds and points of origin into the world?
Interested Alumni must have graduated from the School of Visual Studies or its respective programs (prior to 2017): Art, Art History, Graphic Design, Film Studies, or Digital Storytelling at the University of Missouri.
Submissions include: Personal information, 1-3 artworks, CV, Bio, Statement, and artwork information. See Artwork Data for submission below.
All work must be original to the artist and the source material must be original to the artist or from a permitted source.
Selected artists will be notified on or before August 1, 2026, including the specific artwork(s) and/or videos/films selected by the jury.
DELIVERY OF ARTWORKS:
The exhibition dates are September 15 - October 15, 2026. All works must be available for the length of the entire exhibition.
Selected video/film artists will receive information to provide a high-quality export of their work for exhibition.
Selected visual artists will receive detailed drop off and shipping information about the delivery of 2D and 3D artworks to the Montminy Gallery at the Boone County History and Culture Center in Columbia, MO.
The selected work is due to the gallery between September 7 & September 11, by 4:30pm CST.
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS for 2D and 3D artworks:
All work must be ready for display. No works can hang from the ceiling. Works hung on the walls must not exceed 50 pounds. Maximum 72 inches, longest dimension.
2D framed artworks must have hanging wires in place. Unframed artworks must include detailed installation instructions.
3D works must fit through a standard doorway.
All works must be labeled with the artist’s name and artwork title.
