“The richness I achieve comes from nature, the source of my inspiration."
Claude Monet
When life gave me lemons (chronic illness), I made art.
I have always appreciated art history and completed various drawings and paintings throughout my childhood, but I never knew I had an actual talent for creating art until I was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome at 19 years old, and then Ankylosing Spondylitis and optic neuritis a few years later. Because of the weight of these diagnoses and how they limit my ability to do typical twenty-something activities, one especially difficult day inspired me to attempt a portrait of my cat, Duchess, with some cheap acrylic paints.
After moving into a new apartment last fall, I finally got my own studio space (a sunroom), and have since begun experimenting with oil paints and have completed over 20 works since January.
I am fascinated by impressionism, specifically Monet and Berthe Morisot, but I tend to gravitate towards realism in practice. Spending time in nature helps me to focus on finding joy in ordinary moments despite my diagnoses, and I believe my art reflects that sentiment.
I am a cat mom to my seven year old Duchess, and my two year old Honey. I have been married to my wonderful husband (who is an abundantly talented musician) for seven years. I credit my sweet little family for most of my inspiration and in-studio support.
