I carefully fold the edges back and sew along the individual cross-stitches using a fine thread. It’s important that the grid pattern matches on the back and front so that you can easily insert the needle between the stitches. Works for big projects as well as small patches. For large pieces, I sometimes glue them onto a thin wooden board or sturdy cardboard. This provides more stability, and the finished product looks neater.
