Who we are
Straight Arrow is made up of independent reporters and producers who became frustrated with the biases present both in the news media and the media writ large—social media, partisan media, the endless stream of takes. Our team is spread around the United States, giving us a wider point of view, and has a broad experience set across digital, print and broadcast.
We’ve all found our way to Straight Arrow because we want to tell stories that matter. Our work here is our way of rejecting the bad incentives that have given rise to our chaotic media environment: the need to create clicks for advertisers, chase ratings or be the loudest voice in an attention economy.
Our vision for journalism is more rooted in service: You have questions, we have answers. If you’ve found us, you likely have a sense that the system is broken. Our mission is to always do what’s right.
Our approach to storytelling
Americans have lost trust in the media not just because they think it’s biased. The truth is more complex: It’s exhausting to search for truth in a media landscape where incentive structures and revenue models reward the loudest, most controversial takes.
Lies and manipulation disguised as news are holding us hostage, getting our attention but failing to inform us.
The way we get information is broken. Platforms are more focused on getting your attention than surfacing the facts. Bias is greedy for your clicks. We believe news should be about truth, not transactions.
