Theremin fuelled and guitar laden indie psychedelic post-rock for the apocalypse.

Svntax Error’s music is created through the clashing of disparate influences in improvisation, leading to either harsh combustion or new and strange musical mutations. The music blurs spontaneity with composition, melody with noise, chaos with structure, light with shade.

Formed in 2016, Svntax Error have released two albums, 'Message' in 2019 and 'The Vanishing Existence’ in 2023. The latter seeing them tour Europe - performing at Belgium’s seminal Dunk! Festival alongside the cream of the world’s instrumental, post and experimental rock acts including Amenra, We Lost The Sea, MONO, God Is An Astronaut, Caspian, Oiseaux-Tempête and many others. They also toured the Australian East Coast with Japanese post rock legends MONO, playing The Triffid in Brisbane, Manning Bar in Sydney - with We Lost The Sea - and Max Watt’s in Melbourne, and supported Swiss band Hubris at The Factory in Sydney, and Howler in Melbourne.

2025 saw them join the Bird’s Robe 15th Birthday Tour, playing Max Watt’s in Melbourne and The Metro in Sydney, sharing the stages with COG, …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead (US), Closure in Moscow, Crooked Fiddle Band, Meniscus, Solkyri, SEIMS and many more over the two dates.

Svntax Error comprises Ben Aylward (Swirl, Fabels, Bleeding Into Radio) on guitar and vocals, Ben Eadie (Rubber Necker, Fever Pitch) on drums, Matthew Syres (Helvetica Noise, Delays Have Dangerous Ends, Forenzics, Jekyll Switch) on Guitar and Theremin, and Peter Yates (Rubber Necker, Pretty Polly Mine) on Bass.

The epic single ’Fires Of Home’ was released on the 10th April 2026. The album of the same name releases on the 3rd July 2026. All through Bird’s Robe Records.

Drawing influences from Mogwai, The Cure, Nick Cave, The Dirty Three and more, the Sydney-based band have earned a reputation for thrilling sonic explorations making use of hypnotic grooves, wailing theremins and of course, a post-rockers penchant for delay pedals.

GUITAR AND VOCALS

Ben Aylward has been a mainstay on the Sydney music scene for many years playing in the seminal band Swirl and his current project the Fabels. His use of rhythm and colour helps to define Svntax Error's hypnotic, driven sound. 

matthew syres

GUITAR AND THEREMIN

Matthew Syres pushes the envelope of possible guitar sounds through the extensive use of effects and abstract playing styles, perfected through years of playing in experimental, industrial and avant-garde acts including current improvising quartet Forenzics. The resulting soundscapes and textures add greatly to Svntax Error's sonic palette, creating a truly unique and atmospheric sound.

BASS

Peter Yates is a seasoned performer having played in many successful musical outfits in recent years. 

Peter's playing style is both melodic and percussive and is the perfect bridge between Ben's driving guitar and Matthew's more atmospheric sounds. His creative bass lines are a combination of the driven and the atmospheric.

Ben eadie

DRUMS

Providing the solid backbeat for Svntax Error is Ben Eadie. Over his drumming career Ben has performed styles as diverse as blues, swamp rock, cow punk, metal, noise, Motown, hip hop, funk and more. Ben brings these influences into Svntax Error to ensure that the drums provide a solid, colourful backdrop to the bands already rhythmical, atmospheric canvas.
