A MINI THEME EDIT

Thanksgiving, full of warmth and reflection feel like the perfect time to watch Fantastic Mr. Fox, the kid friendly claymation from Wes Anderson.

Carly found herself accidentally theming as Mrs. Fox

And the color palette is a solid one for any fall occasion, reminding us to restock our fridges sustainably by shopping local and organic.

Mercedes enjoyed decorating while watching Fantastic Mr. Fox, in a comfy on-theme dress.

For Theme Edit’s first abbreviated “Disney Edit”, we’d like to bestow upon thou a guide inspired by one of our favorite movies to watch this time of year, ‘Hocus Pocus’.

This September, the 90’s cult film returned with the three Sanderson sisters brought back to life by a not so happy accident. In an article from Men’s Flair on the roots of American ‘Prep’, it’s stated that the most attractive aspect of the ‘preppy’ style and reason for its commercial success is its “rumpled and ironic blending of dress and casual clothes.” What was birthed in the 50’s as a way of showing status and uniformity amongst the east coast elite, evolved into the all-american interpretation of the 80’s. Hip-hop stars were wearing the varsity jackets that were previously reserved for one class and color, what’s more American than that?

THEME // AUTUMN AMERICANA

As Autumn officially arrives and many head back to school, we feel an annual nostalgia. The buttoned up shirt that was too stuffy to wear in July now feels appropriate, and we crave Rom Coms like “When Harry Met Sally”. Images of Harry and Sally strolling through Central Park in lovely cable knit sweaters with sneakers and baseball caps stir up a romantic idea of Fall on the East Coast and a style of 80’s Ivy League dress.

This kind of “preppy” style has had a notable resurgence in the form of street wear. Brands like Aime Leon Dore, Kitsch (Jerry Seinfeld), and the re-invented J. Crew have combined this collegiate style, once worn strictly by the wealthy elite, with the creativity of early hip-hop, the style of pioneering athletes, and the ease of streetwear.

The Queen’s hobbies were nearly all out of doors. She has summered in the Scottish countryside at Balmoral Castle for decades, and notably enjoyed horseback riding. She was an avid hunter when in Scotland, and was described by her sister’s famous suitor, Group Captain Peter Townsend, as “a tireless walker and an excellent shot.” If not riding a horse, she attended many derby’s and when not engaged with horses; often would be seen cuddling her precious pups. In honor of The Queen’s funeral today, we want to encourage you to honor her beautiful life by participating in some of her favorite activities.

As a head of state, Queen Elizabeth’s style was often a means of discreet communication. Many times, her very outfit was a diplomatic move. She is known for her staple wardrobe pieces, like her pearl necklaces, monochromatic suits, and fine millinery. In fact, she wore her famous monochromatic outfits from nearly the beginning as a way to stand out in crowds, and that she did.

She is known to have had three prominent dressers in her lifetime, Norman Hartnell and Hardy Amies in her early years, and Angela Kelly being her senior dresser in her later years.
