Our ability to address  systemic problems in the mental health system is limited by lack of access to data. What if we could change that?

NOW FEATURING AUTHOER OF 'YOUR CONSENT IS NOT REQUIRED', ROB WIPOND! There are many systemic issues within the mental health system. However, one problem that influences most of the others is the reality that many deeply problematic trends and rights violations are made invisible or impossible to prove when data simply isn’t tracked or accessible to the public.What if we had the power to change that?What information would we want to know?This event will open with discussion from author and freelance journalist, Rob Wipond, on what information tracking trends he's observed and why it matters, followed by a brief talk from a whistle blower who was able to identify questionable restraint practices use based on data being tracked. A brief presentation on different ideas for how to increase data tracking requirements and accessibility will also be offered, followed by opening up for public comment and discussion.

ABOUT ROB WIPOND: Rob Wipond is a freelance journalist and creative nonfiction writer who writes frequently about the interfaces between psychiatry, civil rights, policing, surveillance and privacy, and social change. His articles have been nominated for seventeen magazine and journalism awards in science, law, business, and community issues, and he’s the author of the book <a href="https://robwipond.com/your-consent-is-not-required" title="https://robwipond.com/your-consent-is-not-required" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Your Consent is Not Required: The Rise in Psychiatric Detentions, Forced Treatment, and Abusive Guardianships</a> (BenBella, 2023). He currently has a Substack newsletter <a href="https://robwipond.substack.com/" title="https://robwipond.substack.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">PsychForce Report</a>, where he tracks expanding uses of coercive powers in mental health systems.
