With temperatures rising again this week, heatwaves seem to be an increasingly regular occurrence, but the summer of 1976 still stands out as an exceptional weather event in the UK, fifty years on.
Temperatures have soared to 35.7C in Charlwood, Surrey, surpassing the UK's previous June temperature record from 1976 of 35.6C.
