Reminder: State law, not federal law, sets the deadline for receipt of mail ballots in elections. In Pennsylvania, nearly all mail ballots must be received by 8p.m. on Election Day. The only exception is for some military and overseas voters. Learn more at
County boards of elections must receive a voter’s completed mail ballot by 8 p.m. on Election Day for it to be counted. The deadline applies to ballots returned by mail or in person to a county office or drop box. There is no grace period. Ballots received after that time, even if they are postmarked by Election Day, do not count.
