new hbomb video reminds me just how many current popular youtubers got their start doing "anti-SJW" right-leaning edgelord content making fun of queer people 2016-ish and then promptly rebranded & have tried to erase that part from the internet after that style went out of vogue

i'm a broken record on this, but the fact that basically everything about videogame culture has been offloaded to youtubers and streamers is profoundly bleak. blogs died years ago, outlets are dying now, and the people actually making the games aren't doing much better either.

it is interesting to me how the Jenny Nicholson Star Wars Hotel video has become a weird "youtube video essays have gone too far" lightning rod for some people because to me she's one of the handful of youtubers who is consistently engaging and thoughtful and well researched.

the Nostalgia Critic "The Wall" review is famous for being a weirdly high effort hack, simplistic, bad-faith reading of the source material. the thing is: most video games commentary on youtube is and has always been operating on exactly the same level as that review!

part of the reason i still view this space with massive suspicion, given i was part of the group of queer people in games that gamergaters really hated, and those gamergaters really helped drive the whole "anti-SJW" grift

the fact that most AAA games are fundamentally the same game over and over since 2006 or so makes me feel like i'm losing my mind... esp given how much games changed from like 1992 to 2006.

i really don't think NFT and crypto people have any realization at all about how successfully they've been mobilizing people against them. i've never seen something that feels like it's everywhere be received so universally negative by basically everyone outside the bubble.

so many trans communities i've been around are people who are fucking broke, have little to no real job prospects, and are severely anxious and depressed because of that. i was living on couches for years. it's already *that* bad for a lot of trans people
