A community response to the water crisis in Cambridge

We see the local relationship with water is broken, and managed in a way that assumes that water is an unlimited resource for human use.

Can we do something about it?

Get in touch to discuss how you can join the movement to benefit water, nature, and people in Cambridge and beyond.

The Water Sensitive Approach

Water is essential for the all life. Sustainable water use is important, but we should ensure that we push the conversation and care beyond water conservation and resource use per person per day. We need to go beyond water conservation to water restoration, and mending the local water cycle.

The water-sensitive approach aims to restore and support the urban water cycle by working with nature and not against it. A more holistic approach to water in our catchment – such as the rainwater that lands on hard surfaces and usually goes down the drain – can make a difference to us now and future generations.

We see turning verges, gardens and parks into rain gardens to protect the places and people we love against flooding. This will not only restore groundwater and build healthier soils but also create lovely places for all residents – not just human ones – to live. It ain’t complicated, it just means thinking a bit differently about water, and giving the respect and consideration that water deserves.

Introducing:

SlowFlow

Our “Raingarden in a box” planter!

Manufactured locally in Cambridge from recycled materials, the SlowFlow rain planter can add biodiversity and visual interest close to buildings. These compact and clever Sustainable Drainage assets can connect to downpipes or be part of a treatment chain to reduce flooding while giving positive benefits to water quality and biodiversity. The SlowFlow planters are also good option when you only have limited space, and they blend well with other water harvesting features on your property, like water butts, ponds and rain gardens.
