Trustees demonstrate commitment to education by accepting responsibility for the policies and procedures of Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS). They are elected representatives who are accountable to you, the parents, and to the community members of this school division.

Dave Anderson; Trustee

Sherwood Park

Dave Anderson serves as an EIPS trustee representing residents in urban Sherwood Park. He brings 12 years of governance experience as a former municipal councillor, five years as an educational assistant and advanced training including the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and an Executive Leadership Certificate from the University of Alberta.

A resident of the community for 25 years, Anderson combines practical classroom insight with seasoned governance and executive leadership skills. He’s recognized for his strengths in fiscal oversight, policy development, coalition‑building and transparent decision‑making. Anderson emphasizes targeted funding, sustainable staffing and measurable student outcomes, ensuring resources are directed where they have the greatest impact. A husband to an experienced teacher and father of three daughters and two stepsons, he draws on intergenerational perspectives to shape pragmatic, student‑centred solutions. On the Board, he’s committed to evidence‑based policy, respectful engagement and long‑term investments that strengthen learning for every child.

Tiffany Bergmann; Trustee

Fort Saskatchewan

Tiffany Bergmann was raised in Fort Saskatchewan from the age of three and remains deeply connected to the region. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Alberta and loves to continue to learn and grow. She brings previous governance experience both as a member and Chair on the board at Fort Saskatchewan Christian School. 

Together with her husband Ken, she co-leads their family business where she manages the sales and design side and champions client-centred service. A proud mother of two, she’s passionate about helping create strong educational environments that support students, families and staff. Bergmann is committed to bringing a collaborative, thoughtful voice to the Board table. Outside of her professional and trustee roles, she enjoys playing piano and contributing to the vibrancy of her hometown.

Jessica Boyden; Trustee

Strathcona County North of Wye Road

Jessica Boyden was elected as a trustee in October 2025 and represents residents in Strathcona County, north of Wye Road. Boyden is an alumnus of the University of Alberta where she earned her Bachelor of Education degree in 2000. Throughout her 25-year teaching career, she spent a year teaching Grade 1 in Thailand and many years teaching grades 1, 2 and 3 with Edmonton Public Schools before having children. She spent the second half of her teaching career as a K-9 teacher within EIPS and has served as an active parent in the school community as a volunteer, school council chair, auction committee member and volleyball coach.

Boyden loves living on her acreage in Strathcona County with her husband and four teenage daughters. She enjoys gardening, sewing, reading and going to the mountains with her family. She’s been making pottery for the last 30 years and loves teaching children's pottery classes at her local guild. Exceptional education for all children is a passion of hers, and she’s looking forward to collaborating with her fellow trustees to help shape the future of public education in our community.

Bryan Butler; Trustee

Vegreville and the County of Minburn

Bryan Butler has been an educator for more than 20 years, including experience in Alberta schools as both a teacher and administrator. In addition to teaching in Alberta, he established a digital school program for junior high students in Honduras serving the needs of remote villages not having government schools. He’s also taught and held administrative positions in several African countries.
 
As a community member of Vegreville for more than 40 years, Butler has been active as a soccer coach and a referee in soccer and football. Currently, he serves on the board of Vegreville Family and Community Support Services, as well as several other committees focusing on the needs of the community.
 
Butler and his wife, Ardythe, a retired long-term care registered nurse, have two children and three grandchildren. Both children are graduates of EIPS.
 
Butler believes communities with a strong education system benefit in every facet of activity. Every child needs to be given the opportunity to develop skills for life that will enable them to choose their path to success. By providing a range of programs, schools can enable students to be life-long contributors to their community.

Leah Canning; Trustee

Sherwood Park

Leah Canning was elected an EIPS trustee in October 2025 and represents residents in urban Sherwood Park. Canning is a retired teacher who’s continuing her passion for education in a new capacity and looking forward to her future endeavours in the trustee role. She and her husband have resided in Sherwood Park for 37 years where they raised their two children. When she’s not spending time with her family and grandchildren, she enjoys reading and crafting. 

Colleen Holowaychuk; Board Chair

Lamont County

Colleen Holowaychuk was elected to the board in October 2010 and represents residents in the Lamont County Ward. She grew up in Lamont County, completed her schooling in Andrew and now lives in the town of Lamont with her husband Michael. She has three daughters, all who graduated from Lamont High. In 1992, Holowaychuk graduated from NAIT’s biological sciences program and went on to work at the Surgical Medical Research Institute at the University of Alberta. It was there she learned the importance of working as a team toward a common goal. She has always had an interest and passion for leadership and has held several leadership roles throughout her life. While a trustee, she served as Vice-Chair of the Board for seven years and currently serves as Board Chair. She has also served as both Vice-Chair and Chair of the Alberta School Boards Association Zone 2/3 and Director of the Alberta School Boards Association.

Outside of trusteeship, Holowaychuk enjoys working in the health care field as a chiropractic assistant and as a Councillor for the Town of Lamont. She enjoys volunteering, camping, gardening and spending time with friends, family, their children and grandchildren. She also loves being part of the rural community, as it's part of her roots and a very important aspect of her life. Holowaychuk represents EIPS schools in Bruderheim, Lamont and Mundare.

Kaye Schindeler; Trustee

Sherwood Park

Kaye Schindeler was elected as an EIPS trustee in October 2025 and represents residents in urban Sherwood Park. A longtime resident, Schindeler and her family have lived in Sherwood Park for over 40 years, where she and her husband raised their three children.

Throughout her 35-year career in education, Schindeler taught every grade from kindergarten to Grade 6, beginning as a music teacher before serving as both an assistant principal and principal in several EIPS schools. She holds a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education degree and continues to contribute to the profession as a facilitator for student teachers. She’s deeply committed to supporting high-quality learning for all students.

Krista Scott; Board Vice-Chair

Strathcona County South of Wye Road

Krista Scott is newly elected to the Board of Trustees and has been a resident of rural Strathcona County since 2009. With a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan, Scott previously taught kindergarten and worked to develop programs for children with autism. She and her husband Malcolm have four children, three of whom have graduated from EIPS, and their youngest will graduate this year. Scott has been actively involved as a parent volunteer in EIPS with more than 15 years of service around various school council tables, as a member of the EIPS Committee of School Councils and having served a term on the Alberta School Councils’ Association Board of Directors. She’s passionate about parental engagement in education and the value of quality public education for all. Outside of education, Scott enjoys cooking and time spent around the table, creating pottery and her family. 

Ralph Sorochan; Trustee

Fort Saskatchewan

Ralph Sorochan was elected to the board in October 2021 and serves residents of Fort Saskatchewan. Sorochan possesses a strong working knowledge of EIPS schools, processes and local communities, having worked as a teacher, principal, director, university instructor and EIPS trustee for more than 38 years. His focus is on collaborating with students, staff, parents and the community to achieve overall student success and create a student-centred educational experience. He's a strong advocate for inclusive education and individual diversity. Having worked directly with Indigenous communities for 18 years, he's a strong supporter of First Nations, Métis and Inuit student success.

Sorochan strives to ensure the families of Fort Saskatchewan are heard and their feedback is considered in decision-making. He believes teachers are the experts on curriculum and pedagogy and respects parents as first partners, who are the experts when it comes to their children.

Sorochan and his family have lived in Fort Saskatchewan for 19 years. In his spare time, he’s a musician, fisherman, woodworker, charcutier and avid reader.
