Vine rows running toward the Richmond Ranges in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley

The French call it ‘terroir’ — we call it gravel & loam

Wairau Valley · Marlborough · New Zealand

Our wines are born from the unique soils of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley.

The Wairau River winding over gravel beds at dusk, Marlborough
The ancient riverbeds that name our wines

01

Gravel

Ancient gravelly riverbeds, laid down by the Wairau over millennia. River stones lend a fine, stony mineral edge.

02

Loam

Loamy deposits create the ideal environment for vibrant, expressive Sauvignon Blanc — lifted aromatics and bright purity.

03

Clay

In the Upper Wairau, clay-rich terraces add depth and structure beneath the vines.

The result is a wine of lifted aromatics and bright purity — soil you can taste, place you can point to.

Our way

The vineyard speaks. We listen.

We named our wines after soil because that’s where the story starts — and where we try to keep it. No flourish in the winery, nothing added that the valley didn’t offer first. Just old riverbed ground, careful hands, and wines that taste of the place they were grown.

Certified — Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand

  1. Picked cool

Fruit comes off the vines in the cool of the morning, holding on to the natural acidity that gives the wine its spine.

  2. Pressed gently

A soft pressing and cold fermentation in stainless steel lock in varietal aromatics, keeping the wine bright, pure and precise.

  3. Farmed to last

Every parcel is grown on vineyards certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, so the soils that name our wines stay alive for the next hundred vintages.
